Is It Possible The Rubber Bands On My Teeth Are Preventing My Tooth From Straightening

I'm wearing 13 rubber bands to try to get my teeth to move by my appointment tomorrow will that work?

I am cringing just thinking about what you said. Please donot do it. I know there was a video this young girl made that went viral on how she used rubber bands to straighten her teeth. If only life was that easy! Trust your orthodontist. Your teeth are/will be in good hands.Just out of curiosity, why do you want to move your teeth a day before you are seeing a Dentist?

Can you straighten your teeth by pushing on them?

I used to wonder this too when I was a little girl! But no, you cannot push your teeth into a position that you want them to be in because the amount of force and time that you would have to do this in order to see a change would be impossible. That's why people wear braces for years. Because there is a constant push and pull on the teeth at all times so the teeth can re-establish roots and bone. You would have to have your fingers in your mouth literally CONSTANTLY pushing for your teeth to adjust. And even if you do push hard enough to move your teeth, they will most likely just go back to the way they were before. That's why people wear retainers after braces.

Hope I helped!

Are dental braces' sole purpose to straighten teeth?

Dental braces fall under the category of orthodontics. It is a field of dentistry that diagnosis, prevents and corrects the irregularities of teeth. Braces are used to :Straighten teethCorrect an 'irregular bite' (malocclusion) - cross bites, crowding, deep overbite and underbites, open bitesClose unsightly gaps - irregular spacing a throughout the jawBring teeth and lips into a proper alignmentIn young children - it guides the proper jaw growth and permanent tooth eruption

Orthodontics: Will my retainer continue to straighten my teeth if I haven't been wearing it that often, 10 years after my braces came off?

A bit difficult to say. 2–3 months down of not wearing a retainer results in alot of changes so you know what to expect 10 years later. The point of wearing them is to let the teeth remain in their new positions by formation of mature bone around it that holds them stable for long. With age, there are certain changes that occur throughout the body( oral cavity being no exception). Hormones, habits, lifestyle changes bring about alot of changes in the tissues. So, it is highly not possible for those retainers to fit back in position.

How do you treat pain produced by the rubber bands in braces?

The other answers were really good but I'd like to add that some pain is normal and should go away. Excessive pain is not normal and should be brought to your orthodontist’s attention immediately. If your orthodontist does not satisfy your concerns, consult another orthodontist immediately.

My Orthodontic Retainers are staining my teeth.?

You should probably brush your retainer and not soak it for so long in the efferdent solution. The retainer has metal and doesn't need to be soaked in chemicals for long periods of time. It might cause corrosion of the metal retention pieces on it and I'm assuming that this is where it goes across your teeth at. Then when you place it, your transferring the corrosion to your teeth. Check your retainers metal parts well for corrosion by wiping it with a damp cloth to see if anything transfers. If it does and you can't clean it off, you may have to have a new one made. For the stains on your teeth, just try brushing for a week or so and see if they come off. If not then you may need to visit the dentist and have them clean the stains off with a more abrasive prophy paste. Hope I've been of some help and good luck.

You may want to take your retainer in to your dentist office and let them clean it in the ultrasonic with their solution to see if that stops the transfer of corrosion to your teeth. You won't need an appointment for this, just call ahead of time to see when it's convenient for someone to do it for you. Good luck!

Why do my gums bleed when I put the rubber bands on the hooks of the braces?

Because your gum tissue is not healthy due to inadequate cleaning. It is very important to step up proper flossing and brushing at least three times per day. Use a bright light at the sink and look closely in a magnifying mirror if possible. Your teeth and braces should look as clean as the day they were placed. Your gum tissue should be light pink in color with no swelling or bleeding. Placing elastics should not cause bleeding.

Does everyone with braces have to wear rubber bands?

I have had braces for over 2 years and they said i would only have them for 2 years. I wore rubber bands for like 4 weeks and then they told me to stop wearing them.

The ortho told me that all i have left is to get the 2 small gaps on the top to close, then im done.

My sister told me that everyone has to wear rubberbands at the end of treatment to"lock in your bit", but i don't really believe that.

What do you know about this?

Can I close my gap with braces rubber bands?

By using an elastic around the two front teeth to move them together without using brackets (handles) on the teeth will become a major problem in no time. Infact, this method is used to create experimental Periodontitis in lab animals for research and can be used to extract teeth in people with severe bleeding tendencies when no other option is available. The elastic moves towards the tip of the tooth because of the taper to the teeth and roots. This movement slowly extracts the teeth.
