Is It Possible To Purify Water Using Some Other Method Than Filtration

Bleach + Pur Filter for lake water purification?

I am looking for a cheap way to purify water on a 4 day backpacking trip. I don't want any funky tastes in my water or to carry in 100% of the water we will use for drinking and cooking.

What do you think about using bleach drops to purify water, letting it settle, then pouring most of it through a small Pur brand pitcher filter (excluding the sediment)?

The water in the area is stagnant, and has green algae covering most of the surface. I would obtain water from below the surface as much as possible.
Pur filter says it "removes 99.9% of microbial cysts (cryptosporidium and giardia)"

Will this make the water safe to drink? Also, are there any better ideas that are lighter weight and cheap that will provide clear, tasteless water? (less than $10, I got my pur filter on sale for 9.99)

Is filtered water the same as purified water?

Yes, by definition filtering your water simply means the method of straining out the impurities from a water source. Water purification takes it one step further by using methods and technologies such as reverse osmosis that enhances your protection from the hazards of unsafe drinking water.

How do you purify tap water?

I don't want to have to constantly buy bottled water because it's purified. I have plenty of water from my sink but is there a way I can completely get rid of the chlorine and other chemicals and pesticides in it. I need something that's easy and I can do at home. Without a filter or purification system. How can I completely rid the tap water from chlorine, chemicals, and other unneccesary things.

How does water purify itself naturally?

forest fires which occur through nature leave a bed of charcoal which when water passes through filters it. when combined with evaporation, the now filtered water can be pushed via the jet stream to neighboring regions.
