My friend has been having nose bleeds for the past three days in a row. ?

The most common cause of a nose bleed is that the nasal lining gets dried out or irritated, which then causes blood vessels near the surface to bleed - running can easily do this - it happened to me all the time when i ran. But, increased blood pressure when running or performing any aerobic exercise can also force blood out of vessels near the surface of the nasal lining.

Having a bloody nose and dizziness is a little bit scary - these two things together can be caused by dangerously high blood pressure, but it could also occur if she is just reacting psychologically to the blood - which is pretty common. With high blood pressure, it's classic to have dizziness for about 20 minutes following vigorous exercise. She might be wise to go the doc and get a stress test to see if there is hidden cardiac problem that only shows up with exercise. In the mean time, she should stop running and just switch to walking.

If the bleeding is not caused by high blood pressure, this type of problem usually gets resolved on its own after a while as scar tissue eventually forms and is then less susceptible to bleeding. Otherwise, there's not too much you can do about this type of problem - sometimes a saline nose spray helps - if the problem is caused by irritation or dryness. If the problem is occurring mainly because there si a blood vessel too close to the surface, the best thing to do is to go to a doc and have then seal the bleeding spot by cauterization. This is a common and minor procedure where a couple drops of a chemical are applied or a tiny wire wand is use to deliver a high intensity spark that seals everything up. Both procedures sting for a minute or two, and then cause a tiny bit of soreness for a few days.

What is meant by these three (separate) excerpts from the novel "Emma"?

1. "When Emma heard that Jane Fairfax had been seen wondering the meadows…on the very day which she had, under the plea of being unequal to any exercise, refused to go out with her [Emma] in the carriage, she could have no doubt that Jane was resolved to receive no kindness from her.”

2. “Indeed I will. You have shown that you can dance, and you know we are not really so much brother and sister as to make it improper.” “Brother and sister! No, indeed.” [Emma and Mr. Knightly.]

3. “Yes,” said Mr. Elton. “Pray pass me. I have nothing to say that can entertain Miss Woodhouse. Shall we walk, Augusta?”
