Is Online High School A Good Idea

Is high school online a good idea?

I'm going to do a high school online. I'm currently living in France, and because of personal reasons I can't go back to the US right now (I probably can in 2~ years, when I finish high school online). I'm starting to have more and more difficulties in classes here, and also I just prefer to do classes in English rather than in French. But is doing High school online really a good idea?

I talked about it with my parents, my principal at my school and my principal thinks it's just a 100% fail rate if I decide to do high school online. Saying things like "how are you going to do sports, art, 2nd language...". She probably knows a lot about education and I don't doubt that but I don't think it's right to just not do it because she says so. She thinks I'll end up quitting after 1 month maybe out of difficulty even though she says I'm a serious student in class, I don't make a lot of trouble.

If I were to continue here next year, I'd be 17, which is pretty old for someone in 2nde générale/professionel (which is equal to say, the very 1st year of "high school" here, right after middle school...). I don't really want to do that, being old AND not being motivated especially with the language and difficulty barriers. Not worth continuing here.
Even in this country, I was able to barely manage through middle school years but now it's just getting too hard.
As for my social life, I already have enough friends to hang out with, have my family at home too.

My main problem is that I don't know if it's really "impossible" like my principal says. I don't want to continue here, I'd be pretty old and even my brother/sister who finished university here have big problems (still having) getting jobs even with their diploma they got after finishing school here.
I personally think it's worth a try, I might actually be able to do it.

Any suggestions on wether I should still go do high school online? Also, is there anything I should prepare myself for, things I should know before doing it? I'm really thinking about it and I just need to know.

Is high school online a good idea?

My Cousin did online high school and finished a year early she said it was harder in someways like more work, but you didn't get distraceted by things and people which allowed her to succed to the best of her abbiltes.
My cousin learn't a second laungue online on a different website but in the last two years she just left it, and for gym she got a personal trainer for 3 times a week and she also played Netball and Hockey.
I hope this helped xx.

Online high school. Good or bad idea?

If your problems are serious, online high school might be just the thing for you to do. By studying at home, you can focus on learning rather than all the social baloney that goes on in school. You may be able to find a source that doesn't cost you anything. If there isn't an online school, you can always finish at a night school. They don't always teach at night, and they focus on getting you through the classes. There are two ways to graduate, your diploma, and the GED. The diploma will look better in a few cases where you are applying for work, but not always a problem. You could ask your school counselor if your district offers classes outside of school so that you can still have your high school's name on your diploma. If you don't graduate from your school, you will have to state what school you did graduate from, and if that doesn't bother you, its a fine way to go. Sometimes, my daughter, who had to graduate from night school, or adult high school, sometimes puts down the school she would have graduated from. It all depends on how you feel about it. As far as college goes, if you pass the entrance exam, it won't matter where you graduated from, unless you are hoping to get into Yale or Harvard or something, but a state college won't care about that. It can take a little bit longer to graduate if the place you go to has different criteria for graduation. That is why I said maybe you can find some outside help in your school district because it might be closer to what you have been doing so far. But, if not, it isn't that much more, and you can still graduate quickly as long as you stay focused and don't take breaks in between courses. The one thing that is different about adult high school is there is no teacher there that is going to nag you to do what you need to do. Adults do what they need to do without someone babysitting them. If you can do it on your own, then there really is no reason not to go for it. Good luck, and hang in there, you are almost finished!

What are some reasons online high school is a good idea?

There are no good reasons. Online schools, in the main, benefit working adults and persons with disabilities who are immobilized. They are really not for children and other minors who must learn self-discipline and who need socialization in order to mature into the type of people we want in our society. Online learning can supplement an education in a brick-and-mortar school, but it does not substitute for one. Online schools cannot provide anything like the quality of regular schooling.Another matter would be where this online learning would take place. Children and minors should not be left alone at home all day while parents are working, nor should they be left on their own in a library. Working parents would incur the added expense of an all-day sitter.Furthermore, the economics of online high school cannot be justified when, and so long as, public schooling is free in the United States. There are good reasons for some of our politicians and private companies to want to rid us of public education. It would be their moneymaker, but our great loss.

Is online schooling a good idea?

Online schooling has it pros and cons, like anything else. The glass is ALWAYS half full or half empty, depending on what you WANT (if not NEED) and what you EXPECT.ADVANTAGES:Cheap or free.Tremendous variety (practically infinite choices of topics). No commuting. No need to be at a certain class at a certain time.No time limit to finish anything (could be a disadvantage too). You can learn at your own pace (which may be too slow at times to make real advancement).Instructors who are still in the field and in touch with the latest out there. Even though they may not be great teachers per se, they usually know their specialized material well.DISADVANTAGES:Usually no nationally-recognized diploma or certification. No networking or memorable social experiences. Some of the instructors who may not be as well versed in the craft of training as college professors.Since everything depends on the student's motivation, it requires a lot of self-discipline to continue and finish the courses.

Is online schooling my 15-year-old, a good idea?

It depends on the child and the school. I was online schooled using InterHigh for the entirety of my teens up until I went to college and it was so much better for my mental health than public school. I was extremely anxious as a child and I would have a panic attack every morning before school, which led to a lot of days off and a lot of lessons missed (I also have Asperger’s so might have been part of it). If your child is like me, or has another problem that makes going to school hard for them like bullying, then online schooling is so much better.Of course, some children will try to play you so they can not do schoolwork, but for most children, there is an actual reason behind wanting to leave public school. You should have an in-depth conversation with your child as to why they want to leave because there could be a problem they've got that they need your help with.Online schooling, and home-schooling in general, encourages children to become more independent with their learning. They learn because they want to learn instead of because they have to go into school and show they’ve learned it, which creates a great mindset for when they go to college and have to motivate themselves to study anyway.Don’t leave it too late because if I had to stay at public school any longer, I would’ve had a serious mental breakdown.Hope this helps.

Is online college after high school a bad idea?

I'm starting my senior year of high school next month, and I really need to start deciding on colleges (or universities) and what I plan to do after I graduate. I obviously want to have a degree; I'm planning on getting a Master's or higher in whatever major I choose (I'm most likely going major in Psychology or Biology; I've been considering a double major, as well). The only thing is, I don't like the idea of college life. Is online college a bad idea for a lower degree? I'm quite ignorant in this area, so if anyone could help me out, I'd really appreciate it. I realize I'll likely end up enrolling in an actual university, especially for the higher degrees, but online college is much more appealing to me.

If it helps:

- I do very well in all my classes now (I'm third in my class, if that gives any perspective), and very rarely need any assistance or tutoring.
- My average is an A+, and my GPA is 3.99.
- My SAT score is 1780 (570 in Math, 590 in Critical Reading, and 620 in Writing).
- I haven't taken the ACT yet. I'm taking it and the SAT Subject Tests (Biology, History, and one other I haven't decided yet) the first date I can this year. I'm also going to retake the SAT.
- I don't like being around people, and I'm not involved in much in school now.

Thanks for any help. Ten points to the best, as always.
