Is The Surface Pro 3 A Good Laptop

Surface pro 3 or 4?

Surface is a waste of money.and I wouldn't get win 10.there are some concerns such as the upgrade agreement, which states you cannot reinstall your previous Windows (unlike the tech preview). Another concern is subscription fees.which you can search the web for articles on that.also remember ms is extremely anti consumer and lies frequently so what ms says isn't worth much.you have to pay attention to what ms does, not says. I am gonna recommend this laptop since you only need a very basic one.this also comes with win 7 and a two year extended warranty, which is good for college life. Contact me if you need more help. Is the Surface Pro 4 a good laptop?

Surface Pro 4 is great tablet that can replace your laptop. It's got 6th generation Intel Core i3, i5 & i7 processor and can easily run Windows & Office

It's lightweight, fast and fun replacement for any laptop. If you want features of both tablet AND laptop, then go get Surface Pro 4. Includes surface pen, but Type Cover / Keyboard are sold separately. I feel there's no real business usage for the surface pen, but it's neat to have if you like to draw or paint on tablet screen. Also, there aren't many apps on Microsoft App Store (when compared to Android Play Store). Anyways, it's still perfect for writing, studying, browsing, listening to music, etc

You can get it from http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Surface-...

How is the surface pro 3 as a long term tab/laptop?

Ultra mobility is the biggest advantage of Surface Pro 3. It is more expensive than many laptops, but by the time I bought it, of this same size and performance, there is almost no competitors. Sony did have a model with good mobility, but lacks performance, and Lenovo had a model with performance, but a lot more expensive. So I think it would be ideal for you.Type Cover is a must-have, if you do want to use it as a laptop. A stylus comes with it so you don't need to buy one.One possible weakness of tablets people may think of is the SSD, I think. Because I'd use it as a laptop, I chose the 512GB version. A typical SSD made with MLC flash memory can undergo 10000 write cycles. This means, even considering 4 times of write amplification, it would still take 1280TB to be written before the drive will fail. Considering my daily usage pattern, I write less than 1GB in average per day. Of course sometimes I write 10GB, and even with this, it would still take me 350 years to make the drive fail. That's long enough, I think. Still I would recommend you to perform weekly backup of all your important data.Another weakness, specific to Surface Pro 3, is the screen. Before I used a case, I did drop it on a marble floor and cracked its screen. So I sent it for repair and cost a lot of money. Then I bought a UAG case for it. You would also consider that. Although it may make it heavier, the device with case would still be lighter than most laptops.

Surface pro 3 or MacBook Pro?

Im a college student and im debating which of the two i should get. I have an ipad mini which i love but it doesn't really do me justice. I can't really type essays on there, but anyways I'm not here to talk about my iPad mini lol.
I know both the surface pro 3 and the MacBook pro are good to type essays and such. I also know that the surface might be cheaper than the MacBook and thats why it grabs my attention. I have one concern though, with the surface pro 3 am I able to download origins and play sims 3 or 4 on it? Im a huge fan of that game for years now and I would like to purchase something that can play sims and be able to do my college work on it at the same time.
I know with the MacBook pro i could do both, but like i said the surface grabbed my attention price wise and how it doesnt weigh much. I heard that the surface rt works fine for gaming. I think im leaning towards the surface pro 3 more but if it cant do gaming then i rather get something else.
Which do you guys recommend; or if there is anuother type of laptop or tablet that you guys recommend that will be nice.
Thank You

Is the Surface Pro 3 a good laptop for MIT coursework? (256 gb, Intel i7 core)

Being a Computer Science major (currently in my senior year although not in MIT) myself I can testify that you don't really need a high end PC to get through the degree.Usually all the programming and misc stuff (writing, reading, making presentations etc) can be done on a low end machine. The only reason you would need a high power is when you need to work on graphics or perhaps run some simulations/number crunching (unity3d, MATLAB etc. depending on the courses you take you might not have to work on these at all. [again I don't know about MIT specifically.]). You could probably use the lab computers for this purpose, as most of my batch mates do.The only real thing you should be worried about is the battery life and portability. Specially if you plan on using the laptop during the lectures or between the lectures.

Which is the best laptop for a developer? A surface pro/book or a Macbook pro?

None of those - especially if you’re developing a large project that takes a long time to compile.Any laptop that tries to be really thin isn’t going to cut it, because shrinking the case always means making compromises in cooling the CPU.Run “make -j 64” in a Linux kernel tree (or worse, run “make -j 64 droidcore” in an AOSP source tree, or try to build Chromium from source), and you’ll watch most laptops (certainly including both of those listed in the question) either burn up or switch to the lowest available frequency to avoid overheating.I found that “gaming” laptops usually work better for me than others - their GPUs are far more powerful than what I’d need (and in fact I tend to turn the GPUs off and just run off the built-in Intel GPUs), but at least they expect the kind of load that needs a proper fan. Displays also tend to be high resolution, certainly good for keeping lots of terminal sessions open at the same time.I use an Acer Predator 17 these days, and would opt for it or something very similar again. My only gripe with it is that Acer wasn’t helpful at all with early problems (display would turn off as soon as I start X, function keys weren’t working, …), but my fixes for those made it into the respective projects when I got and fixed mine some 2 years ago, so you won’t run into those problems with a current Linux distribution, such as OpenMandriva.

Is Microsoft Surface 3 a good replacement for my laptop?

For me, not just for a laptop, but for a server-class development box.I've got a Surface 3 pro I'm using as the computer to type this on. Right now it's sitting in its dock, which is incredibly easy to use. It's hooked to the monitor (40" 4k (~3900 x 2200)) and keyboard (logitech wireless kb and mouse) I was using on my server-class machine until the day I got a Surface. I *love* the surface pro. It does everything I need, but it's so small I can carry it around in my backpack in addition to my work laptop, so I can do personal stuff I don't want on my work laptop. I even use the surface as a laptop on the bus, thanks to the kickstand and type cover. I haven't booted my server-class box since I got this thing. I haven't done hard core development since then, but I have played league of legends, DOTA 2, and world of tanks just fine. Before this I tried several tablets, including a 13" Lenovo with a built-in projector, an Asus convertible (the T100), and my wife's ipad. The surface is perfect for me, and completely portable. All my files go with me everywhere which is *wonderful*The only downside of the Surface as a laptop replacement is that the display is slightly small. I like 14-15" laptop displays, and it's a 12". Otherwise it's the best laptop I've had since a macbook pro 15" with retina display. So yes, the Surface 3 pro is a good replacement for a laptop. Note: I got the version with the i7 processor and 512 GB of storage. They have different options, so your mileage may vary.

Is the Surface Pro 4 good for programming?

I am going to college for Computer Science and in need of a new laptop. I've been looking at the Surface Pro 4 that's coming out soon. I need a device that is good for programming, since that is the majority of my major. Will this be good to use for programming, or is there a better option?

Can a Microsoft Surface Pro 3 fully replace a laptop?

It depends.I have a Surface Pro 3 (i5/256GB SSD/8GB RAM) and it's currently my tablet, my laptop, and my desktop PC.It can handle my programming tasks (IIS, SQL Server, Windows Phone virtual machine, multiple instances of Visual Studio) without trouble. I use it on the go as a laptop, and when I'm at home I connect it to an external monitor and keyboard, and it becomes my desktop. But it's not good for gaming. Of course it can run many games at 720p resolution and low details at an acceptable frame rate, but if you want to game much, then no it can't replace a laptop for you.The same if you want to do video encoding. You'll most probably able to edit your videos, but rendering will take a lot of time.Using it on your lap is good, but not as good as a regular laptop. On the other hand, Surface Pro 3 + Keyboard is lighter than most laptops out there. So, the answer to your question "Can a Microsoft Surface Pro 3 fully replace a laptop?" is yes. I am the proof :)But can it replace your laptop? depends on what you do with your laptop.
