Is This Infected Or Just Sore Belly Button Peireced

Belly button piercing help... Red and sore but not infected?

Belly button piercings take forever to heal in a lot of cases cause of constant irritation, but its only been a few days its still an open wound.

And there are three signs to an infection- reddness, heat and yellowish discharge, as long as you don't have all three you don't have an infection.

I'd just keep doing what your doing and try not to irritate it as best you can. Other then that, the salt content in the water your using may be too high. If that's the case you can actually 'burn' the wound with the salt, so if your using a lot of salt in the water try cutting it back a little.

If your still having this trouble in a few weeks I'd maybe consider going back to your piercest. Of course, if your concerned now you could always ring them. Most piercests are happy to deal with any questions you have. Another great way to learn about what's normal is to simply google belly button piercing healing times, or belly button piercing experiences. A lot of ppl have documented thier healing experiences online so you might get a few ideas out of that.

Is my belly button piercing infected?

That's all completely normal. It will be sore for a few weeks. Redness and a clear/yellow discharge is normal and lasts the entire 6-12 month healing process. The discharge is not pus by the way, its lymph secretions and is a sign your body is healing properly, its often referred to as "crusties". Keep it clean using sea salt soaks until its fully healed. Mix 1teaspoon non-iodized sea salt to 8oz warm water, submerge your piercing in this solution using a very clean or disposable shot glass by bending over and placing the shot glass over the piercing and leaning back or laying down so its completely submerged. Soak for 5-10 minutes 2-3 times a day. Do not move or rotate jewelry for cleaning, it drags in lymph and bacteria causing irritation and can cause infection. Do not remove or change your jewelry until its fully healed.
Signs of infection are a dark/green/thick/cloudy discharge with a strong putrid odor accompanied by EXTREME redness and swelling and will become hot to the touch.

What is the best way to treat an infected belly button piercing?

Best advice is to consult your piercer, they typically will take care of you until the piercing has fully healed.  If you can move your torso around, touch or bump the jewelry and not scream in awful pain, it is likely that it is not infected but instead, irritated.  Without seeing the piercing and discharge, I am unable to give a more clear answer.  I can tell you from my personal experience, though, that I had a genital piercing which took 9 months to fully heal.  During the healing period, I followed all after-care procedures to the letter and it became irritated three times.  It was slightly red and irritated and oozing a ton of clear/whiteish lymph.  Each of those three times, I consulted my piercer who took one look at it and immeidately said, "It's not infected, it's irritated, just continue with your aftercare and leave it alone until it heals."  On my third visit, he volunteered the information above, that if you can touch or move the jewelry without doubling over in pain, it's likely not infected.  Here is another resource for you:  How to Tell if a Piercing Is Infected

when u press it does it hurt more? like feel like a bruise or burn? if yes then u should take that piecing out now and go to the doc for some antibiotics. belly pircing r only suppose to hurt the second their done. and its a myth that all pieceing should get infected. if u still want ur belly pierced go to a more reputable place.

I got my belly button pierced a week ago and its red and sore when i touch it?

Okay, I really wanted to get my belly button pierced and I got it and I was kinda scared and now it doesn't really hurt but when I touch it or lay on my stomach it does but that doesnt really bothers e though i'm really scared because its red. and idk what to do...do you guys think its infected ?

So I got my belly button pierced 3-4 days ago and it's a little red and hurts is it infected or is this normal?

Sounds normal. I think you’ll find that you have been using aftercare on it a bit too soon or in high quantities,Sad statistic but most young people with new belly piercings go home and utterly nuke them with aftercare (whether that be the correct saline baths or the not so correct aftercare sprays) within the first few days. This really damages the skin and doesn’t give it time to settle.Nowadays I tell most clients to leave thier fresh piercing alone for up to one week, or at least the first couple of days. Showering and washing can still be done as normal but I ask that no products or solutions be used on it straight away. This lets the skin settle and begin healing.Cleaning the piercing too often can cause this redness and swelling too, so I recommend you either cut back a little on cleaning or change what you are using on it.What, if anything were you told to use on it?It would help me to know so I can let you know if it’s appropriate or too harsh.

Why does my belly button piercing randomly get infected?

Sounds like it is just irritated, not infected. There could be a lot of factors at play. Maybe you are snagging the jewelry on something in your sleep without knowing it. Maybe the daily washing is too much and is irritating the skin. Have you tried oil massages on it? At 3 years old it is not a bad idea. Get some emu oil or jojoba oil and after you wash the piercing, massage the oil in - really make sure you work it into the piercing, don't just let it sit on your skin - to moisturize it. You could use fragrance-free lotion as well. It could just be getting irritated because it is dry. The next time it gets irritated, take a trip to the piercer and have them take a look, they'll have a better idea what is going on.

My belly button piercing randomly got sore/crusty?

same thing happened to me when i got my lip perirced just clean it its not infected if it was it would be pus infested and extremly nast trust me you would know if it was infected... it not.. if you play with it alot.. that could be the cause to.. your fine honey.. just clean it with some rubbing alcohal and put it back in if you keeo taking it out and putting it back in.. that could also be the problem.

What product should be used to clean a belly button piercing?

Sterile saline (wound wash, not contact) solution should be the only product to be used in a new piercing. You can find it on the first aid isle in most pharmacy. Check the ingredients on the bottle, it should only contain water + sodium chloride 0.9%. Most people misunderstand and think that they can make their own sea salt solution but you cannot make a sterile solution at home so the best way is to buy it at the store. Remember that the solution doesn’t make your piercing wound heal any quicker, only make your wound clean (free of crusties) for your body to do its job. If in doubt, you can simply rinse the piercing in your warm shower and make sure to dry well afterwards.
