Why is it so hard to gain weight?

I had your same problem when I was your age and younger. Ask your doctor/pediatrician about Kids Boost Essentials. They have like 365 calories in one little box. I had vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate. Also you can get them from the store but I highly doubt they're as potent as the ones your doctor can give you. My doctor shipped me like 3 big boxes of them a month through fed ex. I'm 17 5'9" and 163 pounds now. You have to drink 3 of them a day. That's 1095 calories a day. Some days I would drink up to 5 of them. That's 1825 calories. 2000 calories equal a pound so within a month you could easily gain a few pounds. They also have pills that can help you gain weight but I only seen that on TV with adults taking them and you're just a kid so I don't know if that'll be bad on your developing body or not. But seriously ask about Kids Boost Essentials.

Is it possible to gain weight too fast, when trying to bulk up and build muscle mass?

Im a 22 year old guy, that has been lifting on and off since I was 14, but I started taking it serious(diet, rest, strict routines) about a year in a half ago. When I began I weighed 187 and now I weigh 255, which Ive looked up on forums and was informed that it was impossible to gain this amount of weight so fast and took at least 5 yrs to reach. I only use whey, weight gainer, and creatine and eat lots of good food. Ive put on very little fat, I still have defined abs, just my legs, arms and back have all gotten bigger. Ive noticed that Ive been having some pain in my back in chest area, I can't say if its directly related to weight gain, but its something Ive never noticed before. My goal is to reach 285, with the rate Im gaining weight, Im sure I can get there by at least may of next year and then I will tone up, to began competing. So, my questions, could I be gaining too much weight for my body to handle?

Why can't some people gain their weight?

Kind of a tough question to answer. People vary quite a bit so the reason behind one person's inability to do __________ will differ from another person's. However, I can attempt to answer this from the cases I know of.MedicalSome people suffer from things like; cancer, autoimmune diseases, severe allergies (like Celiac's) or even things like "Marfanoid–progeroid–lipodystrophy syndrome" MPLS (try saying that 5 times fast). These various diseases cause one to either have an extremely difficult time gaining any kind of weight or make it literally impossible to store fat, like MPLS. Having a food allergy that restricts your diet quite a bit can make gaining weight difficult as well. In some cases, having Celiac's disease causes people to have such a restricted diet that they end up not being able to eat a lot of common foods and therefore have to specially make their foods (making over-eating a rare thing). Although in Celiac's disease it's much more common that one gains unnecessary weight due to the absence of a specific protein (gluten).EducationMANY people don't realize the body and it's energy requirements. If you are either a "hard-gainer" or a "hard-loser", you simply are either not eating enough or eating too much. The equation to gain or lose weight is simple; (to gain weight) -> Calories in > energy burned. That is, you have to eat more calories than your body needs for daily activities. If you "can't gain weight" it's either because you are underestimating how much you are actually eating (also known as not counting calories), or because you simply get too full before your numbers match. In the first case, I'd suggest meticulously counting every calorie you eat. In the second, I'd suggest drinking things like powdered oats, protein ice cream shakes, powdered whey protein, etc. Drinking calories is a super easy way to get calories without getting super full. Many people claim that they eat "tons of calories" yet they "can't gain weight". People who say this drive me insane. They aren't "eating tons of calories"... cause if they were, they'd be heavier. Lots of really active people may eat more than their friends yet not gain weight. In this case I'd still go back to; 1.) count your calories and 2.) drink calorically dense shakes/drinks.

Why is it impossible for me to gain muscle mass even though I lift weights for hours everyday?

Many have heard about the legendary 4 hour workouts of Arnold Schwarzenegger, but fewer know about the recovery….Arnold was openly on anabolic steroids, which at the time wasn’t illegal. These type of steroids have 10,000 times the amount of testosterone that a normal human male would posses! After about an hour of working out your body begins to produce the stress hormone called cortisol. Cortisol and testosterone are negatively correlated, or in other words as one increases the other decreases. Over training is a real thing and doesn’t result in gains. Here is your science based recipe to grow muscleReduce stressSleep 7–9 hours a nightDon’t workout for more than an hour at one time (I am assuming your workouts are intense)Eat 1 gram of protein per pound of lean body mass you haveDo compound lifts that involve multiple jointsEat a pre and post workout mealWhere possible select actual food over supplementsActivate type I and type II fibersLift past failure by using negatives, forced reps, and static holdsTrack your progress in a journalWorkout with a buddyTry to consume protein as quickly as possible post workoutTake rest days and deloading weeksbe patient: muscle building tasks timeListening to music can improve performanceConsistently add more weight: you need progressive overload to stimulate muscle growthI was reading the book “tools of titans” last night…. two things that are relevant to this question that may help you.Daymond John - The founder of FUBU - recommends that you review your written goals every morning and night.Random guy in the book I can’t rememeber - Gained 40 pounds of muscle in 6 months - He would load his Instagram feed with fit people who motivated him. If he felt like he was too old he would find a 80 year old weight lifter. If he felt like it was too early to go to the gym he would look at someone who was lifting at 4 AM.Happy weight lifting!

Why is it so hard to gain weight?

You most likely have a fast metabolism which some people see as a good thing, but some people like yourself don’t enjoy this.Increase your caloric intake over time by aiming to add 0.25lbs-0.5lbs to your overall bodyweight each week in order to minimize fat gain. The macronutrient FAT equals 9 calories per gram so go for foods higher in fat in order to gain weight as you won’t have to eat much in order to get a high amount of calories. Good fat sources include: Peanut butter, eggs, almond butter, salmon, nuts, seeds, avocado etc.If you’d like to find out more about the services I offer as an online personal trainer then please do send me an email → albert@albertaldridgefitness.com

What is more difficult: gaining weight or losing weight?

Obviously the answer is losing weight. If we’re talking about water weight, that’s different. But if we’re talking about fat mass, losing fat will always be more difficult. It’s more difficult to lose weight than to gain weight because you don’t have that much control of how many calories your body burns but you can control how many calories you consume.I know a lot of people are going to say gaining muscle will burn more calories, but realistically, muscles don’t burn as many calories as you think they do. 1 lb of muscle burns about 30 calories. This isn’t a lot if you think about it. You need a lot of muscle mass in order for your body to burn a lot of calories, and most people don’t have that much muscle mass.Let’s say you want to lose some fat, your body burns 2,400 calories, and you cut your calories by 400 calories. That means you should lose 1 lb of fat in 9 days. If you cut your calories too much, you’ll lose muscle mass and you’ll end up looking skinny and jiggle. In other words, skinny fat.If you lose some weight in a short period of time when trying a new diet, you most likely lost water weight. In order to lose 1 lb of fat, you need to burn 3,500 calories from the fat stored in your body. Fat loss takes a longer time than you think it does. When cutting your calories, fat will not be the only thing you will lose.No. Ectomorphs or skinny people do not have “fast metabolism.” I’m really sick of hearing that. If you really do have a fast metabolism, you would not have a problem with gaining weight because when you have a fast metabolism, your appetite is almost like a bottomless pit; therefore, you can’t stop thinking about food. No matter how much you eat, you can’t stay full for that long. People with fast metabolism need to control themselves from eating too much or else they’ll gain too much weight because that’s how big their appetite is.If you eat an entire box of X-Large pizza in one sitting and you’re not even slightly hungry 1 hour later, you don’t have a big appetite; therefore, you don’t have a fast metabolism.I literally have never seen a skinny person who eats at least 5,000 calories everyday and stay skinny irl. Ever.
