Jack Dempsey Being Lethargic

Jack Dempsey being lethargic?

I have a 50G tank with a small (2.5in) Dempsey in it now. Its been about a week and he just hides under the decor, VERY rarely coming out. I can see him under it and its like he is trying as hard as he can to press his side against the decor, he is touching it with his whole side at all times. I'm just curious as to if I can put two or three convicts in there, or another Dempsey. If not those, what can go with a Dempsey in a 50G?

I ask because in the other tank he was in (a 55G) before I moved him he was NEVER hiding, always going back and forth, happily swimming and always rushing to food, now the food sinks to the bottom and he just eats whenever he feels like it. The water is very good, its been cycled and tested many times and is just like the other tank, so its not that. I just am not sure why he is so lethargic.

maybe some toys? closer to the tv? maybe some hot lady fish to give him happy time? Haha, but really, I'm completely serious about this.

Serious Problem with Jack Dempsey - Color Fading, Lethargic?

We have a 55 gallon aquarium with a Jack Dempsey in it. He is almost 2 years old, about 5" in length. For about the last 2 months or so, he has been very lethargic. I noticed some of his fins look like he's been in a battle. We do have 2 other fish in there, but they have never had a problem getting along before, so I doubt he's been getting attacked. So for the last month or so, he has been showing some really icky colors - pale white, and splotchy. Almost like he has fish "mange." His fins look terrible, and he's starting to hover vertically in the tank. When he gets food, he will eat, and become lively for a little bit, but he just goes right back to his other problem. The other fish also have a little of the spotching, but not nearly as bad as the dempsey. I'd say 20-40% of his body lacks color. Maybe 1-2% of the other fish does. I've tried putting aquarium salt in there, as well as "quick-cure" and neither makes a difference. I normally add aquarium salt once a week anyhow, as a "tonic" for the fish. Please help, I dont wanna lose this guy!!

Jack Dempsey / Blue Acara Crossbreed?

I doubt that you're going to find anyone that would actually keep it. You have to understand, cross breeding among cichlids is not promoted or advised or something that one would strive to do. Hybrids are for the most part, 99% of the time, worthless and unwanted. A JD and BA cross probably isn't going to be something a South American Cichlid keeper is going to try to do let alone have. Should a species cross breed like that, the offspring, would likely be culled off since the keeper could do little to nothing with the group. Every now and then though, a cross breed will find it's way into stores though and it is slightly possible you do have one, but I'm not convinced totally, this is your issue. I have a feeling, you might have a female JD in the group, and females are not as aggressive as males, and the female may be trying to blend in with your Acara.

Why did the league winners of North America, South America, & Africa fail to qualify for the 2018 World Cup? (USA, Chile, Cameroon)

Like Jack Noone said, each country has a different case.Cameroon had a very tough group. Nigeria has an interestingly good team, Algeria were really good the last time out in 2014, and Zambia are a tough nut to crack. Looking at Cameroon’s squad, it isn’t a big surprise why they missed out.Chile, like Cameroon, had a very tough group. Despite winning the Copa America, they had to endure the painful process of playing 18 games just to have a chance at qualifying for the World Cup. Now, I’m not saying that they can’t do it, they can. What I’m saying is that Chile does not have a huge pool of eligible players who can play in the national team and really carry it to WC Finals. Chile is not Brazil. Brazil has a potential footballer on every two streets. To add on to that, the Bolivia issue involving them using a Paraguayan player in the team played a factor. Now, onto USA. What can I say? As a country boasting to be the best (or at least in the top few places) at everyting, the defeat against Trinidad & Tobago really showed them their place in world football. USA has a mediocre domestic league system, and its players are not good enough to play for the national team. Apart from Christian Pulisic, who is a fantastic talent, there was not one player who seemed to be interested in playing for the USMNT.There were other factors too. Unexpected wins from teams such as Honduras ensured they went through and pushed out USA from any qualification spot.Did I mention the overconfidence of the players? USA was simply overconfident that they would easily make it through to the World Cup Finals. And we all know what happened to that.It will be the first time the US will miss out on a World Cup since Mexico’86, and another 8 years before they even remotely come close to a World Cup Finals appearance. And if Bruce Arena is still manager and Tim Howard and Clint Dempsey are still playing, the phrase God Bless America would be even more important for the USMNT’s qualification chances than it is today.

My Jack Dempsey Cichlid isnt eating, HELP!!!!!!?

I don't keep much in the way of South American cichlids, but it would be worth while to ask, are feeder fish a typical part of their diet? This isn't a good thing to do if that is the case. Feeder fish as a diet are a leading cause of hole in the head and often harbor nasty unwanted pathogens as well. Most fish are not true predators either and will just as well accept and thrive on flake foods, pellets, and a wide assortment of worms.

It's highly possible the effects of extended feeder fish diets have caused a bloat, or lack of appetite. Tank size too is unknown here so it's possible the tank size is too small without that being posted. Water change routine isn't listed either, nor any possible tank mates? When I find something unusual in my Africans, I usually look first at my water chemistry to see if anything is going off kilter there, and progress from there, so checking your water isn't going to hurt here. Also, lethargy or inactivity is one possible sign of nitrite exposure.

I don't like to promote aggressiveness in cichlids since this is also a stress factor, and not saying this in a demeaning manor, but giving a fish feeder fish isn't something I'd do to promote aggressiveness. Keeping it around another male Dempsey or other South American male cichlid, though I WOULDN'T do this myself, would be something I view in terms of a Dempsey being aggressive.

Changing up the decor in the tank, I've found with Africans is a good way to stimulate fish activity.

Jack dempsey bloated or constipated help?

Post a picture of the fish. What symptoms does it have? (is it not eating, lethargic swimming, floating or sinking erratically, etc) Are you sure that it is sick? You don't want to medicate a fish just because it has a big belly.
The best way to avoid bloat is to feed a varied diet and have clean water (0 ppm ammonia, 0 ppm nitrite, minimum ppm nitrate). Yes, feed it the shelled peas, but don't medicate unless the fish exhibits distress.

Jess Willard - Would he be a champion today?

I can't think of even ONE of the 80s babies, that group of talented but lazy heavyweights during the 80s, who would lose to Jess Willard. He was just a big hulking lummox with NO skill to speak of what-so-ever. Willard was big and strong but so are walls. He had no skills at all and would have been a sitting duck for ANY heavyweight who has a jab and can move even a little.

Willard was the Slowest of all champions. He couldn't catch any one of the fighters today. All one would have to do is just move enough to stay ahead of him. There is no way Willard would be able to stop the jab of a modern day fighter. Jack Johnson was WELL past his prime and, compared to today's fighters, his jab was a joke.

Even Leon Spinks would beat Jess Willard because Big Dumb Jess wouldn't know how to use his size and strength to his advantage. He wouldn't know how to maximize his power to slow Leon down enough to stop him from throwing so many punches, as Leon is accustomed to throwing.

Willard would be destroyed by either of the Klitschko brothers or David Haye. He wouldn't even be a top contender today. The only reason he was ever champion at all is because Johnson was past his prime and in bad health and there were no other decent fighters left in the division.
