Joining The Marines With Previous Asthma

Can I join the US Marines if I have asthma?

Depends on how much you want to be part of the most badass fighting force there is. Also how bad your asthma is. Also on what triggers it. But to answer the question yes, you can but you'd have to lie on the medical screening, they generally won't let someone in who has preexisting health issues that would impede duty. In boot camp you get CS gassed and I'm sure that would send you onto a full blown asthma attack. So in the end it depends on the severity of your asthma.

diagnosed and symptomatic after the 13th birthday, does not meet the standard. Reliable diagnostic criteria may include
any of the following elements: substantiated history of cough, wheeze, chest tightness, and/or dyspnea that persists or
recurs over a prolonged period of time, generally more than 12 months.

Can I join Marines with asthma?

I'm not sure about the medicine available that can control your asthma, but my husband is in the Marine corps. As long as it isn't severe enough to threaten your life, I wouldn't make your future recruiter aware of it if he doesn't notice or isn't told. Some things like that can hinder your ability to join or continue in the Marine corps once you've entered. If it becomes severe enough while you're enlisted they can discharge you from the Corps for medical reasons. Hope this helped, and good luck.

Can you join the marines with asthma?

Well the Marines will take you if you can prove that you can make it through a stress test. Thats what I had to do at Walter Reed Medical Center in DC before I joined the marines. I have sports induced asthma, which the first time through meps disqualified me from joining. My recruiters took me to get a stress test and I barely passed, and I had to get 3 MILITARY doctors to sign a waiver for me. But yes you can, but honestly, dont do it if your asthma is bad, cause boot will be to hard. there were runs and humps where I thought for sure id die. Also, the marine corps will not let you have an inhaler.

Can an asthmatic join the Marines?

The obvious answer is no. Someone who has or actively suffers from asthma can not join the US Marine Corps. There are few exceptions for individuals who have suffered from asthma previously but have been incident free for years. However the USMEPSCOM is extremely reluctant to give out waivers to anyone who has been diagnosed with asthma. As I often advise anyone with a pre-existing condition (that's gonna be the word of the year) who seeks to join the military, consult with your doctor first, hear their advice. Then speak with a recruiter and see what they say. You may be one of the few asthmatics who can make it into the military, no one knows until you attempt to enlist.Good luck and don't let or answers bring you down, if there's a way to get you in, your recruiter will help you. If however you are denied enlistment, there are many other fine ways you can serve our country.

Joining Marine/Army OCS with mild asthma?

I know that being diagnosed with asthma after the age of 12 automatically disqualifies you from the Navy, and they will check your medical records and if you have an asthma attack while at boot camp you will be discharged for fraudulent enlistment. Of course the Army and Marines are just as, if not more so, physically demanding then the Navy, so I would work under the assumption that if your diagnosis was after you turned 12 you will be disqualified.

You could go to their website and email/call a recruiter and just ask them too. Good luck.

Can you join the Marines if you have asthma?

I have never been interested in joining the military but I checked the web, a similar question was answered quite well here:  "Best Answer (Chosen by Asker)Well the Marines will take you if you can prove that you can make it through a stress test. Join marines with exercise induced asthma?

I just wanted to know if there's any way I could join the marines with exercise induced asthma? I know I won't get any slack or anything for it. I know I'll be treated as any other. But I also know that this is what I want to do and I'll tough through anything for it!

I want to join the Marines, but I had asthma in the past. Will they still accept me?

”Maybe” - and it’ll probably require a medical waiver from the Bureau of Naval Medicine. While I was on recruiting duty I worked as an Operations Chief at a Recruiting Station where I was responsible for prepping BUMED waivers. So it will depend on how serious your asthma was, and when the last time you were prescribed, and utilized an inhaler. You will need to have medical documentation to substantiate this. The way the waiver works is that you will need to submit the medical documentation to the Medical Entrance Processing Station prior to an enlistment physical.Depending on the documentation you may be allowed to take the medical examination, or not.If yes then the MEPS physician makes the call based on the current regulations. If you meet the requirements you are allowed to enlist. If you don’t pass the medical exam, then you will need to work with your recruiter to prepare the waiver, which will include medical documentation, character references on your current fitness and take an Initial Strength Test to demonstrate your fitness level. If your waiver is approved you will be allowed to enlist.Good luck - and I hope you make it.
