My Cartilage Piercing Might Be Infected. Should I Go To The Er Now

My cartilage piercing might be infected. should i go to the ER now?

so i'm not sure if my cartilage piercing is infected and i'm debating on going to the ER right now because i've seen ear piercings get infected and going to people's brain. Well i got my cartilage piercing done about a year ago and i tried using a new earring then i noticed it got a little uncomfortable so i switched it out for a titanium one. Today i woke up and it hurt a little bit but throughout the day it started throbbing its also tender, red, and swollen. Theres no discharge. do you think its infected. thanks

Is My Cartilage Piercing Infected?!?

So yesterday I looked in the mirror and I saw that my left cartilage piercing is swollen. I've had my piercing for about a month now and it was doing fine until now. It itches and hurts when I'm touching but it throbs when it's left alone. There's no ooze or bumbs or anything. It's just swollen and hurts. Please, is it infected? If it is, are there any methods to stop it?

Cartilage piercing might be infected?

Go to the person who pierced it, they should look at it and tell you if it's infected and change the ring.
If you can't get to the piercer, by a 16g surgical steel ring from a store such as Hot Topic or even in the jewelery section of wal Mart. While you're there pick up some sea salt solution for piercings, it should be by the ear rings. When you get home take out the ring you bought and soak it in alcohol to clean it. Then take out your piercing and quickly put in the ring, otherwise it can close quickly. After this take the sea salt spray an spray it on about 3 to 4 times a day.

Cartilage piercing~I think it's infected!?

If you think it is infected then go let a DOCTOR look at it. Not a piercer ! the Dr can prescribe antibiotics... and dont give me the rubbish about the profession piercers association say this and that! they give certification to people who have passed infection control courses which are not certified by OSHA !! So who do you really trust. a piercer with little if any medical knowlege or the Dr or nurse who is trained to treat infections.
I have seen dozens of piercings from piercers in the ER which are terribly infected and why.... becasue they went to the piercer and they said oh its ok use sea soaks. Funny isnt it that millions of people for decades have been pierced using the gun and very few problems but now its taboo. why... becasue the piercer said so. Millions of people have piercings including cartilage piercings with the gun and have no problems.. Scare tactics... and always always its the first thing peopel say on here... oh its the gun .. oh its the place. No it isnt its usually after care. 8 days later.... no an infection casued by the gun would have shown up withing a day or so.
Best advice is leave the piercing in ... if you take it out and it is infected it will not be abe to drain and skin on the surface will heal trapping the infection inside. You can go to the ER to get it checked out. Or you can go to your DR. Keep the area clean using saline washes ( seas salt 1/4 teaspoon in 1 cup water non iodenized salt) and wash with antibacteral soap too.. rinse well to make sure no salt or soap residue is left. Then alt least go to the DR. he can prescride antibotics if it is infected. Forget the piercer go to the Dr if you need antibiotics the sooner you start the better.

How can I treat a cartilage piercing that has closed but is still infected?

It depends on the severity of the infection. If it is mild and localized, it may be best to visit a professional piercer (ASAP!) who can check with a sterile tool called an insertion taper to see if the channel is still open. If so, they can reinsert jewelry, because it is advised that quality jewelry of an appropriate size, style, and material be left in infected piercings to allow for drainage. Also, when the wound is open to the surface, it can be treated with topical products, such as an over-the-counter antibiotic gel or cream. Once the wound has sealed over, topical products will have no effect on an infection that is trapped inside. In the event that the piercing cannot be opened for jewelry insertion (without re-piercing), then you will need to consult a doctor if your body does not clear the infection on its own, or it worsens.Disclaimer: These suggestions are not to be considered a substitute for advice from a medical professional.

Due to infection, skin has healed OVER my cartilage piercing?

a couple of weeks ago, i noticed that my cartilage piercing was really badly infected, so i put a little disinfectant on it and the crusting seemed to get better. however, i only noticed the front part of the piercing, and i never checked for infection at the back.

just tonight, i checked the back because some hair got stuck on the earring. for a second i thought that i had lost the butterfly, but upon closer inspection, i noticed that my skin had actually healed over the butterfly and that its basically under my skin (i could make out the shape of the butterfly). im completely grossed out, and i have no idea what i should do.

if anyone was in this same situation, or you know what i should do, please help!

Is my body rejecting my cartilage piercing?

I got my cartilage pierced about a year ago and I cleaned it properly; 3-5 times a day. And for about 5-6 months now it's had a big red bubble on the front and back of the piercing. After a year of having it pierced, I was just today able to finally take the earring out. When I took it out the earring wasn't nearly as dirty as I thought it would be considering the bubbles. But, after I cleaned the ear without the earring in, I couldn't find the hole. I tried to put an earring back into the ear about 10 minutes after I took it out and I just couldn't get it to go through. I couldn't see a hole so I was kinda just poking my skin with the earring, but I don't think the hole closed up within 10 minutes?! I just don't know and It was really irritating trying to get the earring through and after about 10 minutes of trying, I finally gave up. I'm gonna leave it out over night and see how it looks tomorrow morning and see if I can get an earring to go through but if I can't I'm afraid I might just have to leave it out and let it heal back up. But, my question here is, is my body rejecting the piercing? Or is it infected? Or...what?! And suggestions on what I can do about this please? Because I really have no idea what's going on here...

How do u know if u need to go to the ER for a nose piercing infection?

This is a wonderful question. My younger sister lost part of her ear in the hospital after a real doctor pierced it. It became pink, swollen and sensitive to touch. Her Aunt, a nurse, had cleaned with no success and removed earring after hydrogen peroxide didn’t fix problem. Apparently, she needed an antibiotic and should not have removed my sister’s earring. My sister should have gone back to Dr. or EMH when it become infected and hurt all the time. She was in the hospital for a whole week after developing a staph infection. It was very serious. She now has pierced earrings again plus a belly ring. Times may be changing, but some things never seem to change.A nose ring is much more sensitive due to less room to pierce. If infected at all, call EMH. It is better to be safe than sorry. Or as soon as you see something wrong, go to EMH. Don’t cut off your nose to spite your face!
