My Desert King Snake Will Not Eat

King snakes and feeder minnows?

Would it be okay to feed my king snake a feeder minnow every once in a while as a treat? I always feed him mice and I was just wondering if king snakes could eat an occasional minnow or guppy.

My desert king snake is eating its own tail, what do I do?

Ive got a desert king snake and its started eating itself from the tail, its locked in this postition and keeps eating more of itself, what should I do? Is this natural and will it just let go on its own, Weve had it years and it has never done this before

My king snake has gone crazy!!!!!!?

Because you're feeding him a pinky, I'm assuming he's about a foot, or less than a foot long. He's still a baby, and neonates (baby snakes) are NOTORIOUS for being aggressive. Considerring he's been stressed out for a month without food and in an environment that doesn't suit a snake at all, he's even more aggressive than he'd normally be.

I would kill the pinky (freeze/thaw, flick it in the head, up to you), and brain it (be sure it's dead!). In case you don't know what braining is: get a knife or other sharp utensil, and cut the back of the pinky's head open and squeeze a little juice out. Rub this on the kingsnake's nose, and his predatory instincts will kick in. He may not eat right then and there (not trusting you in the least), but leave it in his cage over night. To add additional security, cover the cage with a blanket or towel to make it just about pitch black.

After that, leave the guy alone until his next feeding. Let him eat twice (so about 2 weeks) before handling him. He'll have calmed down, and will continue getting tamer the more you handle him.

The reason he's striking the pinky rather than eating it is probably due to stress, and he thinks anything that moves is an enemy. The brain juice should overwrite that fear with hunger, and he'll be fine. If that doesn't work, consult your vet. You may need to bring him in and have the vet force feed the snake (don't try it yourself if you've never done it! you could hurt the little guy!). It's not pleasant, but he's gotta eat to survive.

Hope this helps!

Edit: One other thing you may want to try:
I had an amazon tree boa that refused to eat pinkies. Right out would not eat them. If this guy has been a trouble eater in the past (with pinkies), what you may try doing is getting a fuzzy or adult mouse and rubbing the pinky against it. That way it smells like a mouse rather than a newborn. That's how I got the tree boa to eat pinkies until he grew enough to eat fuzzies. Haven't had a problem since. Sometimes snakes are just picky.

How long does it take a king snake to reach full length?

Not exactly sure but my Cali King has been in 'her' 6ft Viv for last 3years of her 9 year life and has barely grown in a while (about 4 2/3 ft)
