House Smells like Gas/Gasoline?
Did you check inside/outside/crawlspace/attic/attached garage for the presence of actual gasoline? Does it smell like natural gas or gasoline? If it's gasoline, then you should check carefully for the source and remove it. If it's natural gas, then chances are there's a small leak somewhere. I had one in my house and the gas company couldn't find it. It took two weeks to track it down. If the gas lines are exposed, as in a basement, you can spray the pipes with a soapy water solution in a squirt bottle. Bubbles will appear where the leak is. If you can't locate a source, and no one else can smell it, you may want to check with a doctor. There are certain medical conditions that can create the perception of an odor where no physical cause exists.

Get out of the house and call the fire department, right away. They will come with hydrocarbon detectors and locate the source of the smell. This happened to me once and it turned out the smell was coming from a floor drain in my basement where the u pipe had dried out. My neighbor had poured a bunch of paint thinner down the drain. Fireman said to pour some water into the drain to fill the u-pipe so odors wouldn't come up. This was no problem but I remember a situation in Washington DC about 30 years ago when a tanker driver at a gas station accidently pumped 5,000 gallons of gasoline into a sewer pipe instead of the storage tank. Several houses exploded when their furnace pilots light the vapors coming up from their drains.
My whole house smells like gas?
We have a propane house. Well last night around 12 my mom was running the dryer, we went to bed.Then her boyfriend got home from work and he smelled gas so he turned it off and let us know not to run it until he looked at it. Anyways it's 6 PM the next day and I just got home and the entire house smells like a gas station. Am I in danger? Are my cats in danger? What should I do? My mom won't be home until 11 PM.

My house when I woke up this morning smelled like gas. & it still does. The pilot light on my fire place is on, but it never really produces a strong gas smell like this. I have been breathing in this air 2 hours now. Can it hurt me or anything? Myy throat just started hurting. And when I go to school am I going to smell like gas? Thanks.

Call the fire department! Tell them there is a gasoline smell in your house and you cannot find the cause. They will have gas detectors and will be able to find where it is coming from if there is a high enough percentage in the air. If it is intermittent tell them that as well.Talk to your neighbours, if they smell the gasoline as well it maybe coming from a spill in the neighbourhood, or perhaps the sewer system, some older storm sewers may not have “P” traps to keep out the fumes.The human nose is actually a better detector of some smell than the gas detectors used. What the human nose cannot do is tell the percentage however. A few months ago, I saw a video clip on Yahoo News, and it showed that gasoline had got into the water supply of some houses. This was after heavy rain, when some householders smelled gasoline in their houses. On the screen, they turned on the water in a bathroom wash basin and flicked a cigarette lighter near it, and there were blue flames in the water. It turned out that a gasoline tank at a nearby garage had been flooded by the heavy rain (don't ask me how!) and gasoline had leaked into the soil, and then found its way into the people's water supply.

Ali, this has happened to me before. A rat died in our wall. It was horrific!!!!!!! Yeah you might want you buy some air filters or sleep in the car. Call somebody to like get rid of the smell, or maybe there was like a sewage leak...
