Objectification Of Women

Objectification of women?

One: Men are objectified sexually. You're a fool for thinking otherwise, but one of the most common ways a man is objectified is by his utility. That is. How useful he is to a woman. If he's wearing an expensive suit, with an expensive watch, along with expensive cologne in an expensive car, then he's an ideal mate, because he can provide very well for whoever his partner may be. But his utility and his sexuality are combined in most images of men aren't they. They're in all their expensive regalia but in such a way that their bodies are on show. They're presented like that because those are the aspects of a man that a woman will objectify. Get it?

Objectification in women- examples?

Watch or read five ads or commercials for beer.
How many times is a woman shown pouting, puckering or in general looking sexy...over a bottle or can of beer?

At one point, Budweiser stopped being sublte and simply launched "The Swedish Bikini Team".

St Paul Girl is better known for the poster girls breasts than what it tastes like.

Notice...all of this has ZIP to do with the product...it's just using sex to sell.

Writing a thesis on objectification on women?

Why is that those who are supposedly objectified never the ones who complain about being objectified?

What exactly does objectification mean? We are all visual creatures that form conclusion based on appearances, so to some degree doesn't everyone objectify? Is there anyone, ever who truly believes that a person is just an object and no longer a human? Is objectification largely about political posturing?

Why is sexual objectification of women, wrong?

Can someone break this down to me, because I'm confused about the fact that everyone, man and woman, is sexually objectified in the media, and in real life, both by the opposite sex, and even by themselves. So why is it that it is wrong to sexually objectify women in video games, in film, and other media?

To me, it's sexist against men to say it's wrong to do this to women and not acknowledge that this happens to men, AND realize that some women do this to themselves for attention, as well as men objectify themselves as well at times.

How did sexism, and the objectification of women start?

I have heard discussions that before animal husbandry, or animal farming, societies were matriarchal and women were deemed sacred given the mystery of child birth and menstrual cycles. When ‘man’ settled and started to farm ‘he’ learned what was going on by observing the animals. However, I would suggest, that simply the fact that women bled, made them the object of rejection. It’s not something recent but the why and how of it are long obscured in the mists of time. We don’t know but we can speculate. The objectification of woman exists but so too does the objectification of man. People whose hormones are too much to handle often objectify their desires.

What does God or the bible say about the objectification of women?

Not much for sure.

There was no such concept of people being 'objectified', that is a new concept. The thought of women being 'sex objects' is only as new as the sexual revolution. The concept of women being sex goddesses is very old, but much different.

Prostitutes were around even in biblical times, but there was no such showing of skin like there is today. Sadly enough, the objectification of women comes mainly from the actions of the women themselves in this regard. More often it will be a feminist who will cry about men 'objectifying' a women who clearly chose to be a sex object. Not about herself being objectified!

Are women responsible for their own objectification?

I think you misunderstand what objectification is and why it’s a problem.Let’s say an attractive woman or man poses in a swimsuit for a magazine. If you find them attractive and look at the picture youre not really objectifying them. I mean, yeah, on some techincal level you’re viewing them as an object. You’re failing to think of them as a deep and complex person and your focusing only on their body- but who cares? The person in the picture has chosen to sell their image and has no expectation that you engage with them on a deeper level. If a woman freely chose to be viewed as an “object” in this particular situation there is nothing ethically wrong with that.Objectification is a problem when it’s used as a violent tool against someone else. It’s a problem when you are interacting with someone in your life, and you ignore their demands, spoken or unspoken, to be treated like human beings and not just a piece of meat or a means of pleasure for you. Objectification is a problem when you treat someone like a thing when they demand more of you. When someone catcalls or aggresively harasses a woman walking down the street they are objectifying them; they ignore that woman’s right exist autonomously and choose who she wants to interact with, and they demand that she exist for their pleasure. When someone sexually harasses a woman in the workplace they are objectifying them; they ignore her ideas, her merits as an employee, and her desire to simply do her work and be treated like a human being and they reduce her to an object of pleasure that they can dominate. When a rapist rapes a woman they are objectifying them; they ignore that this woman is a human being with the right to bodily autonomy and they treat her like an object, sociopathically callous to her humanity.Women who are objectified and dehumanized in such a manner are not responsible for their mistreatment. You cannot blame them for it. All of the moral culpability falls on those who have chosen to treat a human being like a thing. Doing so, treating people like objects, is the essence of evil.“Sin, young man, is when you treat people like things”-Terry Pratchett
