People Who Have Had Jaw Surgery How Long Prior To Getting Braces Did You Wait To Get Your Surgery

Question about jaw surgery and braces?

What crap. These guys are only out for money. If you are that vain and worried about how you look, then go get everything done, otherwise, forget it.

I am getting jaw surgery for my overbite?

hi there your in luck and mind you im 14 about to turn 15 and my sister recently had jaw surgery for her bottom jaw that was smaller than the top, i have the same problem but im getting a bite jumper fml lol -.-. anyway back to your problem with the jaw surgery i remember my sister i saw her after it and her face was a sqaure shape and she couldnt feel any pain due to the drugs. i noticed the next day all you would do in hospital would be sleeping because the pain was hurting. she could only have things such as jelly and ice cream but then on she still even struggled. when she came home about 4 days later she was in quite a lot of pain and i think for the frist week or 2 she was taking the drug brufen i think which helped. the funny thing was that my mum made lots of drinks using the juicer to boost vitimins and she really didnt have any problem with it cause it looked nice. ill tell you know the first 2 weeks you will be in a lot of pain im sorry for that, mark my word i said to my side 2nd week in about 4-5 weeks you will be eating other things and you know what, she was able to start eating maccas cheese burgers very slowly lol. this was done all over the school holidays i live in australia mind you and its been about 4-5 months now and my sister is doing great. tiny bit swollen still which i forgot to mention youll have big bruises after the surgery but they will disappear. you have to stay strong cause the pain will hit you after watching my sister and you will have to deal with it for about 3-4 weeks before its not too sore. i remember my sister lost about 8kg during the whole process but has piled it back on so dont be too worried about it all. i forgot to mention she also had braces on before she went in and after the surgery she wore elastics for about 3 months. remember stay strong through this whole procedure and make sure your friends visit you to keep you company like mine did for my sister and while she was healing from her pain and just think after this you will have the most perfect mouth and teeth. GOODLUCK MATE HOPE THE SURGERY IS A SUCCESS :D

How long will I need braces before my jaw surgery?

This is the EXACT same "condition" i have. Except I'm in 8th grade and get my braces tomorrow. Hopefully they'll work so i won't need the surgery...
They told me i'd need about a year or so of braces. My teeth are straight as well so i'm guessing it'll be the same for you.
I had to talk to my dentist about the surgery, and he said it's very intense. It'll be some time before you're totally healed up. (not too long)
If you look up "underbite jaw surgery" on youtube, some people have vlogged throughout the whole process and look great now.
My favorite ones to watch were by "pinksweety288". She's super gorgeous, and her underbite was taking away from that before her surgery. I definitely suggest watching them!
Anyway, good luck with your surgery!

How long will i keep my braces on AFTER jaw surgery..?

Depends on each case. Since you've had them on so long, your alignment should be good. They just need the teeth stabilized with the braces so things can heal. You'll probably have to wear some rubber bands to fine tune your bite before your finished. I'd day at least 5-6 more months months. I know it's frustrating, but it will be something your glad you did years from now. Hang in there, good luck with surgery.

Is a 3mm underbite worth getting jaw surgery for?

So I have an underbite, and I went to see the othrodentist about getting braces to fix it, but apparently I would need jaw surgery to fix it. I'm pretty sure he said it was a 3mm underbite I had.

Anyhow, I've watched a dvd about the surgery and the effects, and researched it. It seems like a pretty tough two years to get through.

I'm really self-concious now, and my underbite is one of the things I hate most. I feel like it makes me look sad all the time and affects my speech (which seems quite slushy and silly sometimes I think), and it also makes it awkward for me to smile, and my smile doesnt look that good.)

Is 3mm underbite worth getting surgery for? I don't know whether the cost will be covered by the NHS or not. If it isn't it will be around £3000 I think. But do you think it would be worth the cost and/or the result after going through the 2-year phase or braces, surgery and its effects?

How long did you have braces before Orthognathic surgery?

you can have it for about 5-6 months before the surgery.

Braces before surgery?

I had both braces and surgery to fix my deviated septum so can speak to this.

I personally would get the braces first because you and your doctor do not want any chance of something bumping your nose after it's fixed.

You will feel some pain after your braces but you will be able to take an OTC pain reliever like Aleve or Motrin to help with the pain. Do not take anything that contains aspirin because it thins the blood and your doctor will not perform your nose surgery because they don't take chances with your blood not being able to clot.

You will experience minor pain after your nose surgery and either the doctor will prescribe a pain medication or suggest an OTC pain reliever.

Must extraction gaps be closed before jaw surgery? Some have said YES. Some said NO. What's your experience?

What the orthodontist recommends is best usually in this. But both myself and my daughter had been through braces, we both needed some extractions, too many teeth ironically. Neither of us had to wait longer than the extraction to seal up to have any further work done.

It is a process of the gums mending that makes it closed and ok to work then on the mouth after. I would say as long as that opening is closed now it will be alright. Never had a problem with work done after.
We both had more stuff done dentally, my daughter had her front tooth lowered through the gums with a tiny chain attached as it was stuck in the gums initially (would never know as that tooth is her biggest I see.lol) It will be ok as long as the extraction hole has closed up first.

The gap in this will be taken care of as orthodontics involves moving the teeth around some in the gums to take up spaces to line teeth up.
