Pipe Smoking Question Water Pipes And Wooden Pipes

How much does it cost to start smoking a pipe?

It depends mostly on how regular you plan to smoke and how much “good smoking” means for you.I mean, ideally, your pipe should have a rest for 3–4 days after smoking. Otherwise the taste will not so good and you can harm a pipe. So, if you plan to smoke pipe once a day and want it to be a really good smoking, you need 4 pipes than. If you plan to do it once per week - 1 pipe is enough. I, myself, use a bit different approach. I have “evening” pipes, which I use in the evening, one pipe per 1 time, and give them a 4-day rest. And 2 regular pipes, which are used other times without enough rest. But it’s up to you to decide and choose your freq. If you never smoke pipe, I recommend you buy one at the beginning, and try to smoke it once per week for a month to understand whether it’s yours. You shouldn’t buy handmade or expensive pipes and so on. Some fabric brands, like Peterson, Stanwell e.t.c provide a good quality for reasonable money, about 40–100$ per pipe.Don’t buy corn pipes, it’s a different story, not for the beginner. Buy a good tobacco. a) not flavoured b) smth virginia based, no latakia c) ribbon cut, no flakes, rolls etc. Smth from W.O.Larsen or Samuel Gawith, It will cost you approx 20–30$, one box, 50–100gr is enough for the first time. So, summary:initial investment - about 100$ to try - a good pipe, tobacco, filters(if needed) and cleanersif you like it - you can buy, let’s say, 1 pipe per month till you get enough. 50gr box gives you ~20 smoking sessions, so if you smoke, let’s say, 1 time per day, you spend about 40$ per month for tobacco. And avg 5$ per month for utilities (filters and cleaners). And it’s a great pleasure to have various tobaccos on your shelf to choose what you will do this evening:)

How can i buy a pipe (smoking)?

Personally, if you really want to get discreet shipping, order from www.grasscity.com they have unbelievably cheap acrylic and glass pipes, wood pipes, metal pipes, wood and metal pipes, mostly for $20 or less. The cheapest I've seen is about $5, but shipping is about 9.99 or so. You receive it in ten days, rolling papers are about $.75 or so. I've ordered from them before. BUT, If your stuck on amazon, you shouldn't have to use a credit card you will be able to just use your amazon gift card. As far as discreet shipping, it should come in a brown box with the regular amazon tape and the address and return address. But when you open the box it will have everything else in it, once you get past the outside box it will be the regular box an all. Good smokin man!

Edit: oh and also if your trying to get it passed your mom and dad, I would recommend trying to get it before they get home, or telling them you ordered something like, well, I don't know honestly. Make it good though.

Should you have to relight wooden/long stem pipes repeatedly? And how full should you fill the bowl?

You will have to even after 2 years of pipe smoking you will likely need more than 2 lights to smoke your baccky. As for how far you should fill it with baccky you should fill the bowl once, press it down, or tamp, with the strength you’d use to shake a child’s hand until it’s about 1/4th full. Fill it a second time and tamp with the strength you’d use to shake a woman’s hand to somewhere between 1/2 and 3/4 full. Fill it a third time and tamp with the strength you’d use to give a man’s shake until there’s about a teenth of an inch of room from the top of the tobacco to the rim. When you draw it should have the resistance of soda through a straw. If it’s like a milkshake, dump it out and try again. If it feels like nothing is there just gently tamp it down. The difference between too tight and too loose is very, very little.Give it a false light and burn the very top layer of tobacco. That will give you a nice layer of ash to protect the ember. Draw every 20 or 30 seconds until it burns itself out. There should be a very thin layer of ash that will have tobacco poking through when the false light is done. After you’re done there, give it a light and get it to where a small flame appears out of the bowl when you draw while lighting, that will get the tobacco hot and create an ember. You will have to relight more than likely a couple of times. I’ve been at this for a while now and I still have to light about 5 times over the course of the bowl. You’ll get there.

How can I unclog a smoking pipe?

There are a plethora of ways to clean or unclog a smoking pipe. If you are going to go through unclogging, you might as well clean your pipe. Maintenance is the best way to make sure you always have an efficient pipe. There are different types of pipes. With hand pipes, there are spoon pipes, gandal type pipes, steamrollers and much. Then there are water pipes which consist of bubblers, bongs and dab rig. The steps below will pretty much help you clean all of these.Cleaning Methods:To clean your smoking pipe, always remember to use either a formula created for pipe cleaning or isopropyl alcohol.Isopropyl Alcohol:Empty out all the content from your pipe and put it into a ziplock bag. Pour isopropyl alcohol into the bag until it covers the entire pipe. Leave it in there and let it soak through the residue. You can add salt in the ziplock bag too. This will help eat away the resin and break it apart more. Many people try to smoke the residue but don’t smoke resin from your pipe. It’s harmful to your health and lungs.Cleaning Formulas:Clean your pipes with care by using specific cleaning formulas crafted for pipes. Whether your pipe is silicone or glass, it will be much easier to use a specific formula. This is what they’re made for. use the instructions on it to properly clean all the interior gunk.Hot Water:When you finish cleaning it with either one of the cleaning methods above, always wash it off with warm water. If you use the salt in there, be sure to thoroughly wash it all out. You might taste the salt afterwards too. You can submerge it in warm water and then wash it out after.

How come wooden pipes don't set aflame? There's literally a burning substance with the wood. How come the pipes don't catch fire?

Reaching up to the pipe rack besides me, and we see that most pipes do burn, to a certain extent.Corncob, or cherry will burn out over a period of time. If you were to smoke one bowl a day, it will usually take a few weeks to burn to the point of being unusable. For briar, which is not overly flammable, it can take damn near eternity. It’s helped by two factors. The first is that an enjoyable smoke doesn’t involve the temperature needed to ignite the wood. It’s a slow char. The second is that the idea is to leave a layer of carbon from the tobacco ash on the surface of the bowl. Preferably you should never allow it to accumulate to greater then a 1/16th of an inch in thickness, as when it expands, if it’s thicker, it may be able to crack the bowl. The general rule of thumb is to not smoke the pipe more then once a day. That’s part of why I have so many pipes. It allows the pipe to recover.I’ve never managed to burn out a briar pipe. I’ve known of it happening, but it involved a guy who smoked hot, and multiple bowls a day in the same pipe.

What keeps a wooden pipe from burning?

i'm just wondering what keeps a wooden pipe from burning when you light the tobacoo, is there some sort of chemical they put on the pipe or what? please explain your answer to me.

What are the advantages of using homemade wood pipes instead of buying them?

Since my local hardware and plumbing store do not carry wooden pipes, you must be talking about tobacco pipes. Pipe smokeing is done for flavor and everything about the smoke effects the flavor. I have several types to tobacco that I smoke depending of mood and time of day, week or year and different pipes for each tobacco. Pipes are made of different materials such as wood or briar, stone, clay, metal and even ceramic. Each pipe gives the smoke a distenctive flavor to compliment the tobacco. Briar is hard to work and expensive so is better left to those who know what they are doing as are the stone, clay, metal and ceramic materials. Wood pipes are easy to make if you have the right tool, spoon bits, metric drill bits etc.. Stems are the hardest part since you can not make really good ones your self and they are often hard to find and sometimes expensive. Finding the right wood is another problem to insure you get the right taste and the pipe does not butn out too fast. Wooden pipes are cheap and easy to findso unless you want to make one for fun buying them is the best way to go.

What would be the best glue to use for pipe making?

I am making a pipe a diffrent way this time. I am cutting out 2 templates and dremeling half of the bowl and stem on each side then glue them together. This pipe is cherry and will be used. Any ideas on glue?

Why are we using a water pipe instead of air pipe to warm our houses?

Because we like to complicate things for the sake of complication.Basically, you heat the water to a certain point, water travels through the pipes and loses some of the heat in the process, before hitting the radiators. When radiator gets hot, it heats up the air. More loss occures while heating something that will heat the airWith an air heating system, you avoid some of these energy/efficiency losses. But it might cost a bit more to install the system. In N America, in the old days, there were a few water/steam based systems used for heating, but 80% of heating is done by air heating ( air handlers, furnaces, heat pumps ). In Canada, it also becomes fashionable in-floor heating in apartment buildings, because it is more cost efficient to the builder, but a pain in the but for the future homeowner, because later they have to pay out of pocket to install a separate system for AC ( air conditioning ), for the summer months ( and that will cost almost 65% of what a complete air handling unit that heats and cools would cost ).
