Questions About Acting And Acting Agents.

ACTING AGENCY QUESTION! :)?

Unless you're a Big Star like Miley, you HAVE to be in the state that the agency is in.

The reason for this is because if your flight or train gets delayed and can't make the audition, then you not only look bad, but you've made your agent look bad in the eyes of the casting directors. The relationship between the agent and casting director is VERY important. If you ruin that relationship by not showing up to the audition then the agent has a good reason to drop you.

The ONLY way you can have an agent ouside of your state, STAR OR NOT, is if it's a Voice Over Agency. With Voice Overs, you can record an MP3 file of your audition at your house or at a local recording studio and email it to your agency.

How much does acting agents cost?

Ok it should NEVER cost you anything to sign with an agent. Always remember that!! You don't BUY an agent.
Now once you are signed with and agent, they work for you to help you find acting work. When you book a job then your agent gets a FEE for every job booked. That is usually negoitated in your pay for the job. It is usually 10% of what you made. SO- if you book a Tide commercial ususally they will say the job pays $550 + 10%-for Agency fee. so you get $550 and the agent gets 10%. Your agent can negotiate these fees for you.

You should never sign with an agent that asks for money or makes you take from them classes (or photos too!) before they sign you. Beware, they may be just trying to scam you out of money.

How to get an acting agent?

How did the celebrities and the really successful actors get an agent? I mean what's the process into getting an agent? I live in Miami (south Florida) so if you know any great agencies, please name. But anyway, how would I be able to get an acting agent? What do I have to? I mean it seems next to impossible. Its hard to trust stuff on the internet from acting agencies.. HELP!!! Please :)

How much does an acting agent cost?

You should NEVER, EVER have to pay an agent! A legit agent will be a SAG franchised agent (for tv/film) and you will need to submit your headshot and resume to them for consideration. They know what they are looking for, so if you match what they currently need (i.e., if they need a brunette males between the ages of 16-19) and you match that and match the experience level they want, they'll be in touch with you to set up an interview.

Agents that are franchised by SAG are regulated, so they can only take between 10-15% of your salary from a gig. So the production company you do your gig with will pay the agent, and then the agent will pay you (less the 10-15% commission.)

You can get a list of agencies from Ross Reports for any agent in LA or NY. Check out:

If you are in LA or NY, you can get them at most bookstores or newstands.

Be persistent. It may take a while to land an agent - especially if you don't have much experience. And remember: they are interviewing you just as you are interviewing them. If you don't clique with them, don't sign with them! You want an agent that is easy to work with - but most of all - can find you work!!

best of luck!!!

Can my mom be my acting agent?

I really want to act,

so i was just kinda wondering if my mom could be my agent,
It's just a question,
So please answer!

About how much does an acting agent cost?

agents don't usually make you pay they just want a percentage of the money you earned on the jobs they set up so don't worry it depends on the amount of percentage they want to get an agent search google for acting agents and look at the appropriate towns go to them.but you should have a certificate for whatever classes you completed if you haven't took any classes i suggest you do because they don't usually hire people who haven't but you might just be lucky.

How can i get an acting agent in LA?

so ive been looking on line, i would really love to start my career and start auditioning. being in college in LA i am ready to get my life rolling. so my question for all of you is how do i actually go about obtaining an agent? do i call and make an appointment? send a headshot? or do i actually have to wait to be discovered. i understand that almost everyone in LA wants to be an actress or actor, they all say they are doing this because they love it when i believe half of them just want to get famous.

This is what i love to do, i am studying it in school and one hundred percent sure this is what i want to do with my life. i have no interest in being famous cause honestly , who wants paparazzi in your face all the time? i sure don't but i would love to start working and finding an agent so please. any information you have i would really really appreciate it.

thanks so much for your time!

What can I do to get an acting agent or acting coach?

Two different things. Keep this in mind an agent is not a teacher or a coach, they will not give you acting classes, that’s not their job. When you get an agent, when you sign with an agency, you need to know your business. You need to know the craft and how to be an actor. An agent is not going to take you by the hand and show you how to do a scene or how to do an audition, that’s your job and you need to bring that to the table. Side note here, this holds true for a director as well. A director is not an acting coach or an acting teacher. A director may say, try this or I am looking for this, then you, as the actor, have to figure out a way to give the director what they want. When you’re on set or in the rehearsal room, there is no acting teacher there, you need to know how to do your job. Same as with an agent, they will sign you, send you to auditions, handle contracts and getting you in front of people but, when it comes to acting, you need to know how to do that. Getting an agent is a strange road, you need to contact agents, invite them to shows you’re in or have areel that you can give them, you need to show them your worth and that you’re unique in the business. You need to prove that you will make money for them. That’s a reality, will you book work, will you get them their ten percent? As for a coach, I would say check the local papers, the want ads, acting teachers and coaches list there sometimes. Check the boards at coffee shops, talk to the acting community, who is teaching, who is a good teacher? Check with the local colleges and universities, if they have a theater program, there may be profs who do private coaching or teach classes off campus. If there are community theaters in your town, go see a show and ask the actors, ask the producers if there are teachers or coaches in the area.
