Since When Were Video Games For Nerds/geeks

Video games and the Geeks...???

i dont think so. i play pokemon on an average of five hours a day and i am popular, however i think if you are an adult (depending on the game) if you plan an rpg you might be geeky but if it is halo , god of war, call of duty, gears of war e.c.t. it shouldn,t be geeky

Are Video Games Nerdy or Geeky?

No Video Games aren't nerdy or geeky because if you look at the amount of people playing they involve everyone. Take the wii for example as they are targeting the family audience. Although other games such as World of Warcraft and Dungeon and Dragons can be considered nerdy, I've known a bunch of business people to play it. Considering I'm in college it's not very odd to find a console in an apartment. Anyways games are fun.

Video games are for nerds?

lets back this up a little bit ok nerds make this world go a round in many ways , here's some
computers if it was not for them you would not have the INTERNET
next you would not have great films like starwars , and all the sfi-fi films today,
next you see all the videogames are made in japan they sit in sometimes small rooms and dream up things and look at the shoes you have some herd made it , look at 360 and ps3 and your tv ..... i think you need to rethink everything half of everything is made by a nerd or geek
we need them

Video Games Nerdy???

I feel it depends on the games that your talking about and whom you are talking to. I consider myself a nerd, but most of my friends don't see me as one. All I do with my spare time is play video games and watch educational television and anime, but they still don't see me as one. So it does depend on the persons feelings about what costitutes a nerd. Also if you are talking about a mainstream game, such as CoD4 or GTAIV, then I would not see why it is as nerdy as if you were talking about world of warcraft and your high level item that you just got from that siege you and your clan did than that is more likely to be seen as nerdy. Although it may have been how you said you got a headshot in CoD4 that aquired that reaction. If you said something similar to, I pwned that guy with an awsome headshot. He was such a noob! Lol, then it is more likely to be thought of as nerdy than, I killed some guy in this video game yesterday it looked cool because I shot him in his head. This is what I think about it though when people tell others that they are a nerd, dork, geek, etc."Everyone is nerdy in some way; some less then others." It does not bother me when I get called a nerd. It is not that big a deal. Whatever you do don'y stop gaming just because somone called you a nerd. Video games are just this generations form of movies. Eventually it will be seen as an artform and a great way to get people to interact with their stories.

GUYS, Is it cool when girls play videogames.?

Your friends are obviously clueless. Ever since I joined Xbox Live I have played with girls online consistently. Some I know personally, some I don't know at all. I usually only play with couples now. Me and my girlfriend along with my buddy and his girl. It's quite normal now in my opinion. Girls actually make up a decent amount of the gamer population. Girls are even moving into higher positions within the gaming industry. Back in school, I remember being told that if a girl wanted a job in game development, most of the time just being a girl would get them through the door and into an awesome, exciting career. I have personally seen that to be true. Of course you have to be talented in the skill they're hiring for but for the most part, game studios WANT girl developers. It offers a whole other perspective in game development. I still find it odd when people online find out they're playing with or against a girl as if girls don't know anything about games. This is 2009. Nintendo Wii came out and attracted a whole other audience besides males 18-35.. I think in the future, you will see girls in games become less rare than back in the "old days" when games were just for nerdy guys in their basement. That stereotype is way beyond dead.

Are gamers geeks or nerds?

Gamers could be nerds, acting nerdy over their games. They could be geeks, and display characteristics associated with that character trait as they relate to games. They could be jocks, or preppies, playing preppy games only, goths and deeply into vampires or whatever would float their boat... my point is that gamers can be any one of a ton of different personality types with all the positives and negatives that would be associated with that type, no one specific type of person enjoys games. That is kind of why there are so many different types of games I think.

What would happen if video games were illegal?

Keeping emotional context aside, let’s talk about the technological impact of video games.Video games are a major driving force behind the rapid evolution of computing and multimedia tech.Since the advent of first generation video games, there has been a cut-throat competition among different development studios to provide their users with better gaming experience. For game developers, making a better game also meant ensuring that their game had better graphics and special effects compared to the rival’s. And to accommodate better graphics, we needed better hardware, which could ensure higher quality and performance. This need led to the development of better processors, higher memory, peripherals, and most importantly, the GPUs:And because of such rapid development in the graphics rendering and processing hardware, we’ve progressed from here:To here:in such short period of time.Ever heard of these things:They would never have been so successful and profitable without the immense processing power of GPU.Several other real life applications make use of graphics processing combined with artificial intelligence, for example, deep learning in bio-medicine, finance etc. And guess what ensures fast processing in such cases? A GPU. Because relying on your typical CPU won’t get the job done. And these are just a few examples of how games have led to a technological revolution (And they’re not all about graphics). From the above, we can judge that video games created the need for the technologies that now find their purpose among several other applications driving this world. Without them, we may not have made so much progress in such short period of time. Now to answer the question, what would happen if video games were made illegal? It would greatly slow down innovation.Image sources: All the images have been taken from google search.

What was it like playing video games in the 90s?

Ah, the Golden Age of Lucasarts! If you never heard of Monkey Island or Maniac Mansion, you missed out on an entire generation of the wittiest graphic games ever produced. Not to channel the old-timer in me, but adventures back in my time were not hack-n-slash with a hint of detective work. Most of them had little to none action whatsoever. The average adventure game was almost in its entirety just talking.Imagine how a Michael Bay film would fare against one by Aaron Sorkin. VFX and fast-paced action are cool by all means, but throw those away and there's only one way your work can be successful: by creating compelling plots, characters and dialogues. And DAMN those games were successful!A very particular trend of the 90s* when it came to adventure games - that I sadly no longer see - was that many of them were not just sprinkled with humor; they were full-blown comedies. When I played Gilbert Goodmate and the Mushroom of Phungoria, Grim Fandango or Stupid Invaders, I wouldn't just go through the stages and move on with the story, I would click on every single thing that was clickable, speak to everyone that was around and observe everything in my vicinity, just to get the laugh I was promised. Things like having your character pick up an actual ladder and put it in his "inventory" (code for "his pocket") only to later have him complain that he couldn't carry anything else now, so he just takes the ladder out of his pocket. Purpose to the story: ZILCH. You don't get that kind of silliness in many games today. In fairness, even by 90s standards, comedy adventures were somewhat niche. They were huge with those who played them, but the PlayStation era had already dawned and people were much more excited with the superior graphics of the new generation of games. Or, on the exact antipodal, Pokémon. One last thing I remember that was different back then is that we bought gaming-themed magazines. It was your go-to place to see which games were hot, read reviews or discover cheat codes for your games. Things you'd normally look up on Google nowadays. But, most importantly, with most magazines you'd get free demos and add-ons for an ungodly variety of games. All promotional of course, and most of the time the demo would cut off just before the cool part, but back in those days playing free games was a BIG deal, so you'd just shut the hell up and play the same segment over and over again to the end of your days._________________* Beginning in the 80s

What games do nerds usually play?

Basically, an RPG game that allows the nerd to become someone he/she wants to be, or escape from his/her reality long enough to be considered practical. Such games include, but not limited to, World of Warcraft, StarCraft, Vampire The Masqerade: Bloodlines(for Goth nerds), Star Trek Online, Star Wars Galaxy, City of Heroes/Villains, or any other game where the nerd can be or use his/her knowledge to be better than the rest.

Please note, that Vampire the Masquerade is not an online game, while the rest are.

Also, in an RPG experience, a nerd may change his/her physical ID to be more macho, or feminine to better appeal to their psyche, or in the case of some, live out some bizarre fantasy where they are actually in that world, and in such cases, that specific nerd needs an intervention, seriously.

Pls note, nerds come in all shapes and sizes, and areas of interest, and may also play Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokemon, or other card based games, or play similar games endlessly on their computer. got it? good.

Why are most nerds excellent gamers?

I'm not sure I would say they are all "excellent" gamers, but I would say that many of them end up playing video games because they tend to cross nerd interests. For example, someone who enjoys anime may end up gaming because of the multitude of JRPGs, visual novels, and dating sims that exist. Or, a Lord of the Rings/high fantasy fan may end up gaming because they want to interact and become more engaged with the world, the lore, and the combat that exists in fantasy books, so they might turn to games like War in the North or The Elder Scrolls to satisfy that craving. And, of course, there are the Star Wars fans who always ultimately end up playing the Star Wars games like Battlefront for pure Star Wars obsession. In short, most of those who are invested in "nerdy" interests/hobbies tend to find more of that in video games and therein discover other games. For me, I was horrible at FPS games and would not touch them for the longest time. The first FPS that I forced myself through was Bioshock because it was recommended to me by a fellow political science major. I immediately fell in love with Andrew Ryan, with the political theories behind it, the complex philosophy, etc., and have been playing both FPS and TPS since then, sometimes regardless of whether the story is good or not. As for being "excellent" at it or not...well, I do not consider myself good at video games at all. In fact, I'm pretty bad at them. I can stay on Normal difficulty, sometimes can push it up to Hard for games I love, but I don't practice enough, a problem I have with all my hobbies. I think those who religiously play video games are quite good at it. For those of us who are, well, lazy in our gaming...we're just mediocre nerds.
