Someone Keeps Opening My Mail Help

Can i report someone for opening my mail?

Yes, but I doubt you would get very far.

Technically speaking, it is illegal to open any correspondence that is not addressed to you, even at the same address. Contrary to popular belief, this does not end after the mail is delivered or picked up, or anything like that- it's still the possession of the recipient named on the envelope or parcel and anyone else who intentionally opens it without permission is breaking the law.

On a more practical level, though, the US Postal Service is generally only interested in theft of mail that is still in their possession- in other words, while it may be illegal to open it after it's delivered, it's basically up to you to enforce that. If there was some really big mail scam taking place they might take an interest, but they aren't going to send the Postal Inspection Service around to your house because your dad opened your mail.

This is probably something you are going to need to sort out internally at home. The first thing to do is have a talk to this family member and explain that you're not ok with what he's doing and it is technically illegal, and you want him to be a bit more reasonable. If he still keeps it up, you might consider opening a PO box and having your mail delivered there instead.

Mom keeps opening mail?

My mom keeps opening my mail! It is illegal and it is a federal crime. I can report her for it and don't think I wouldn't. I don't open her mail. It's rude. I hardly ever swear or say the F word, but at this time in this situation I soooo would use it. I told her it's illegal, but she doesn't care. Help?

P.S. I'm 18.

Hey - my boss keeps opening my personal mail!?

P.S. I don't have personal mail sent to me at work intentionally. Most people know where I work but not were I live, so every so often a piece of personal mail gets sent to me at work - and opened without my permission. A few times this mail has been of a sensitive nature.

If you opened up someone else's mail by mistake, what should you do?

Tape it back up and drop it in a mailbox.Unless the address is incorrect, and you don’t know a neighbor who matches it.In that case, tape it back up, and write “Return To Sender: No Such Addressee” on it, cross out the delivery address, circle the return address. If it’s incorrectly addressed, and there is no return address, circle the name, cross out the address part, and mark it ”No Such Addressee” and drop it in the mailbox; it’’ go back to the post office as “General delivery” for a while, after which it will be sent to dead letters.Or, you know… just take it to your local post office.

My mom keeps opening my mail?

So I am 16 and I am in my senior year of high school, and I am starting to get college acceptance letters. Of course I still live with my mom. Whenever she gives my my mail, I notice that every single letter that is addressed to me (with my name) is opened. I have specifically told her countless of times to not open any of my mail, but she refuses to do so. This has also happened with my older brother and older sister a couple of years ago in their senior year; my mother has opened all of their mail and has even kept some of their college mail from them. My mom does not speak English very well and so she does not even know what some of the letters are. I know someone is probably going to say "get a P.O. box" but i do not have the money to get one. I also don't have any relatives that i can rely on to keep my mail for me. I know in other "my mom is opening my mail" Yahoo questions, they say that their parents are paying for their tuition; my mom is not paying for my college fees at all. I don't want my mom interfering with my college matters at all because she does not want me going to college. Does anyone have any ideas what i can do? Thanks.

What do I do if my mother in law keeps opening up my mail?

Obviously you have to move. But if that is completely out of the question, get a PO box.

Btw, my daughter and then fiance moved in with me last Jan due to his job lay off. They are closing on their house tomorrow, and moving out over the weekend. It took a while for him to find a job, and they got married in June. They didn't pay anything until they were back on their feet and could. They did however buy their own food and my now son in law did a whole lot of work around the house that I usually had to pay to have done. I'm happy to have had the opportunity to help my daughter out, and I'm happy that they are moving on with their lives but will really miss them being here.

I would NEVER have done something so disrespectful and despicable as reading their mail or interfering with their personal business. You may be young (that doesn't mean you are stupid) but no one, ever deserves to be treated the way your mother in law is treating you.

I know it will be hard, but you two need to tell her to knock it off, or you need to move. I hope it works out for you.

How do I go about filing charges on someone for opening my mail?

Go to your nearest post office and ask how to contact a Postal Inspector. They have jurisdiction.
