Son Has Hand Foot And Mouth Disease

Hand foot mouth disease?

Hand-foot-and-mouth disease is a mild, but highly contagious viral infection common in young children. Hand-foot-and-mouth disease is characterized by sores in the mouth and a rash on the hands and feet. It spreads from person to person, usually through unwashed hands or contaminated surfaces. The most common cause of hand-foot-and-mouth disease is coxsackievirus infection.

Hand-foot-and-mouth disease isn't related to foot-and-mouth disease (sometimes called hoof-and-mouth disease), which is an infectious viral disease found in farm animals. You can't contract hand-foot-and-mouth disease from pets or other animals, and you can't transmit it to them.

There's no specific treatment for hand-foot-and-mouth disease. You can reduce your risk of infection by practicing good hygiene, such as washing your hands often and thoroughly.

Hand foot mouth disease in toddler ?!?

My daughter had it around the same age. And my older son had it at the same time as her.

They were both extrememly miserable. The doctor's would not do anything for either of them.

My daughter refused to eat or drink. She just drooled and cried and wanted to be held. They both ran high fevers, after the fevers ended the sores started to heal. It still tooks several miserable days before she'd eat/drink normally.

Good Luck! It will be over soon!

Hand foot and mouth disease in newborns?

Hi, I brought my beautiful baby daughter home on Tuesday, she is now 6 days old. Unfortunately my 11 year old daughter has been ill all week with first tonsilitis and now today she was diagnosed with hand foot and mouth disease. I wouldnt mind but she hasnt been sick since I cant remember when and now she has all this :-( Besides worrying about my daughter I am terrified my newborn baby will catch it. The dr. says to keep her away from the baby which is ok, but she has been around her for the last 6 days. I am doing all I can to be sure she isnt holding or kissing baby (its breaking both our hearts) and making sure she washes her hands etc. Anybody had a similar experience? Any advice appreciated!!

Hand-foot-mouth disease in children?

I have no idea how this virus has gotten spread around so bad!! My 20 month old just got over it. She caught it @ church- about 5 people at church had it. It's been going around the schools around here. My daughter would drink plenty of milk- I actually mixed some Carnation Instant Breakfast w/ her milk and she'd drink that (I figured that would give her some nutrition). I could get her to eat yogurt occasionally. Try popsicles- that worked w/ my daughter. I just kept Tylenol in her to keep her as comfortable as possible. It's a miserable time for your children (and for you) My daughter had a lot of bumps in her diaper area- I tried to keep her changed constantly, also used pure cornstarch on her, too. Just try to keep your worry and anxiety under control. Hopefully your children will be like my daughter- she went on an eating frenzy once she got to feeling better. Good luck and God bless!!!
