What are some mind-blowing amazing facts about the human body?

It is impossible to tickle yourself.Everyone has a unique smell.Your left lung is smaller than your right lung to make room for your heart.A person would die quicker from a total lack of sleep than from hunger. Death would occur after ten days without sleep, whereas from hunger it would take several weeks.Within three days of dying, the enzymes that digested a person’s food will begin to digest that person’s body. The resolution of the human eye is estimated to be around 500 megapixels. Most men have erections during sleep.Women are born with better sense of smell than men.The rate at which a person’s hair grows doubles during an airplane flight.Human beings are the only living things which sleep on their backs.A human’s ears and nose never stop growing.A human makes approximately 20,000 breaths per day.If you were locked in a completely sealed room, you would not die due to a lack of air, but from carbon dioxide poisoning.According to German researchers, the risk of having heart attack is higher on Monday than on any other day of the week.A human eye can distinguish up to 10 million different colors. But our brain can’t remember all of them. The heart beats 35 million times a year. Yes, 35 million. A year!Boys have fewer taste buds on the surface of their tongues than girls do.Smiling triggers 17 muscles of the face while crying activates 43. So smile more! The liver is largest internal organ and is the only organ that can regenerate itself. However, repeated damage to the liver can eventually injure and scar this amazing organ. The longest bone in an adult human is the thighbone, measuring about 18 inches (46 cm). The shortest bone is in the ear and is just 0.1 inches (.25 cm) long, which is shorter than a grain of rice.Like fingerprints, each human tongue has its own unique print.Fingernails grow about four times faster than your toenails. In a lifetime, a human body will process about 100,000 pounds of food.Humans spend about five years of their lives eating.A human heart beats over 3 billion times during an average human lifespan.Facial hair grows faster than any other hair on the body.Women’s hearts beat faster than men’s.A human head remains conscious for about 15 to 20 seconds after it has been decapitated.Women burn fat more slowly than men, by a rate of about 50 calories a dayThe indentation in the middle of the area between the nose and the upper lip is called the philtrum. Scientists have yet to figure out what purpose this indentation serves.

The movement of oxygen and carbon dioxide between the alveoli and circulating blood is called?

It's called "external respiration." Internal respiration is the exchange of gases between the blood and tissues. The other phase of respiration is pulmonary ventilation, which is usually called "breathing." Cellular respiration is the use of oxygen in the breakdown of complex molecules to release energy.

Are lungs made of vascular tissue?

Vascular tissue is defined by the presence of blood vessels and a blood supply. As the lungs are comprised mainly of the alveolar sacs, tiny single-cell thick epithelial membranes surrounded by blood vessels, they have a blood supply and are vascular.

Can someone explain ventilation-perfusion coupling to me?

I need to know what ventilation-perfusion coupling is and how pneumonia effects ventilation-perfusion coupling. Im really having a hard time learning the Respiratory System so the more simplified you can explain this to me the better! Thank you and I promise to pick a best answer!

Why can't humans breathe in water?

Gills allow a high volume of water to pass the oxygen-absorbing tissue in a water that lungs don’t. If we were strong enough to expand and contract our lungs around water the same way we do around air, we would then run into problems because there isn’t much oxygen dissolved in water. We would need to ‘breath’ much faster.Warm blooded creatures like us need more oxygen per kilogram than fish do ( I think tuna are heated by internal muscular action which is different than our process but I am not certain) so even if we had gills, we would need to through-put a lot of water to gather enough oxygen.
