Firstly, when you eat short carbs your body raises insulin levels. When this happens, your body starts doing two things. Firstly, the insulin hormone inhibits the body to use fat as energy because there is so much energy in the sugar. Secondly, you will store the excess short carbs as fat! If, for example, you were to eat sugary stuff all day, your body will not be able to ever tap into the fat reserves. In fact, as explained above, you will probably start storing more fat!

However, having said this, it is not a crime to have one sugary treat a week, as long as you are sticking to a good and nutrionally balanced eating scheme.
