What Does Snake Musk Smell Like Exactly Describe It In As Much Detail As You Possibly Can

Why does my snake smell so bad?

At four feet, your corn snake has definitely reached maturity. Perhaps it is a musk of some sort. I know a lot more about the larger species of snakes, but it sounds like musk to me. Try changing the substrate if you haven't already. Also it may be time to clean the enclosure using a bleach water mixture (1 tablespoon bleach to every gallon of water.) You also will want to clean your hides and your water bowl. Just make sure to rinse extra well.
If the problem still persists, change the type of substrate you use, some have better odor control than others.
Good Luck!

Why does my Milk Snake smell bad?

This is a possibility but it could have released the white stuff when it does not like being held and that does smell. Although it can because you have missed a piece of waste and its rotting in the cage. Or maybe you haven't washed him/her in a while. Good luck.

HELP TEN POINTS does snake poo/ pee smell really bad.?

In all my years of keeping snakes (boas, pythons, kings, corns, rats) and having taken care of many others (sand boas, water snakes, hognose, etc...), I have never noticed a snake's poop smelling terribly bad.

When snakes musk in defense though, like when you catch a garter snake and it 'poops' all over you, that's different. That stuff is designed to smell horrible :)

What's the best way to get snake musk off your hands?

Hi Hi,

I have had my milk snake for two years, he's an albino nelson's milk snake. He's a sweetheart every time I go to pick him up, he's never bitten or hissed. He just had one problem, he musks me....a lot. It smell like rotten fish and it's incredibly hard to get off. Can anybody give me an tips or hints to successfully get it off of hands. I feel like I've tried everything including rubbing orange peels on my skin.

- Thanks

When a corn snake bites does...???

When any snake bites you it depends on how large the snake is. If your snake is a baby, the bite would not hurt. If your snake is a sub adult, you may feel it but then again it will not hurt. If your snake is an adult, the bite may feel like a weak pinch. So really, a snake bite does not hurt so you shouldn't worry about that. If your snake happens to be a python of any kind, the bite may be painful when the snake is an adult. Pythons/boas teeth are like needles and curve backwards so you cannot pull them from your skin. Take it behind the jaw, move the head forward, and then up.

When a snake bites you there are two reasons:
1. Feeding response
2. Defense

For a feeding response, the snake would bite you, mistaken you for it's food, and nipping you either at your hand or fingers, if you feed it by hand or your putting your hand in front of a hungry snake's face in it's enclosure or feeding bowl. If you don't hold the snake often, it may also mistaken your hand or fingers, when you try to pick it up, for food.

For a defense, the snake feels cornered and can't escape, it's stressed, not used to being handled, or aggression. Usually those are the cases for a defense and the snake will want to get away. A snake would try to musk on you to get you away or rattle it's tail against something to make a noise to make you think it's a rattlesnake (which you should know it is not a rattlesnake). Musk comes from glands from the vent of the snake. Musk has a foul odor and drives enemies away from it's powerful stink. It does smell and I have been musked on before by my king snakes. So it's used to get away from a predator or drive it away.

Hope this helps you. You shouldn't be worried about your snake biting you. If you have any more quesions, please, ask me and I will try my best to answer. I've had some experience with my snakes and I'm glad to help you in any way I possibly can.
