What If You Drop Out Of High School At 16

Can i drop out of High School at 15?

depends where you live
i know a guy whos 40 something now and hes got more money than he can spend - he dropped out of high school at 15 with no qualifications and since has worked every day solidly, dedicated, through holidays - it took him 10 years to get where he could have with qualifications.

10 years of your life, you could be spending travelling, retired, with friends, lots of holidays - its a lot of your life.

i know a lot of people who left with no qualifications, worked extremely hard like the first guy BUT for various reasons (in their fourties) have lost their jobs through no fault of their own (company cut backs, recession etc.) and now, are finding it extremely difficult to find work as so many people apply, the business tends to discard anyone without ANY basic qualifications, its just an easier, quicker way to narrow it down, so these skilled men are taking the most basic jobs.

a couple more years and you'll have those qualifications for the rest of your life - in the long run it is so worth it. you never know what might happen in the future, for your security id stick out school and get the qualifications.

its your life, there is no wrong or right decision but how many years have you been going to school? all of that work you ever did? and it counts for nothing to companies if you dont have that qualification to show for it.

good luck with whatever you decide x

How do I drop out of high school?

Go see your guidance counselor and tell him/her that you are dropping out.  It is that easy. They of course will try to talk you out of your decision because they understand the realities of life without a HS diploma.  They also understand that a GED is NOT the same as graduating from HS nor will it be viewed that way by potential employers.  A GED is a piece of paper that says for one day you were able to pass a test.  A HS diploma is a piece of paper that says for 4 years of your life you were able to show dedication to your "job" and successfully complete that which you were asked to do.  Not really the same is it? Finally they will be forced to shrug their shoulders since there is nothing they can do to make you stay.  They will listen to your story of how YOU are going to be the one to beat the odds and have a successful life and career without having graduated HS.  Sure there are people who have done this they will concede.  One out of every 100 or 1000 makes a good life for themselves, but sadly most end up in jobs where they are doing menial labor with little prospect for advancement. I am not saying you cannot pull off your plan.  Rather I am saying that you are but one more student who thinks they know more than everyone else about how real life works.  No, school is not for everyone and a diploma is no more a guarantee of a successful career than a GED.  It is just that statistically (and by a very wide margin) people who don't graduate from HS rarely find the success in life that those who have graduated do. It is your life.  Live it as you choose.  But I would strongly advise you to reconsider, as I am sure many others will.  Understand there is no getting back your youth, and many of the decisions you appear set to make are in many ways irreversible.

Can I drop out of high school at 16.?

Yes, you can. It is legal in the U.S. anyway.
If you are dropping out, I recommend the book "Teenage liberation Handbook." It's very interesting. Because after all, kids might ACTUALLY like learning is the system didn't force them to.
You might like eating if I didn't force feed you 6 hours a day, too.

Can you drop out of high school at 16 and get your ged?

I'm the same age as you. I've been cutting school since freshman year. So far I've missed 25+ days in a row. My school called my house yesterday and today I'm going in to talk to my guidance counselor. I'm thinking of dropping out as well but I would immediately start working at my mother's job while I work to get my GED and then attend a community college in then next school year. Talk to your parents and your guidance counselor about it because dropping out is a big deal but you can better yourself if you put your heart into it. Good luck.

Is it illegal to drop out from high school?

I am learning to hate the word “illegal.” Sorry - just turned in a 26-page paper whose central argument revolved around that word and I’m a bit fried - grad school will do that. Here is what you probably meant: will they put me in jail if I drop out of high school?Short answer: “probably not” and “it depends”For most states, being enrolled in the public education system is “mandatory” until age 18 or graduation (since some people do graduate at 17 or earlier), but they don’t really press the issue if you’re over 16 and your parents are OK with it. If you’re under 16, it may turn out to be a matter for Child Protective Services. But the better question is why you’d want to drop out. Statistically speaking, you’re throwing away about a half-million or more of lifetime earnings by going that route (and about a 1.5 million difference between not finishing high school and completing a 4-year degree). If you’re thinking “I’ll finish it up later,” my personal experience shows that there is always something that eats up your available time and “later” never happens; there is only “now.”And that $2.6 million lifetime earnings that I’m supposed to see from grad school? Probably not going to happen since I did it “later” rather than “now”. But on the bright side, I’m doing it for the fun rather than the money, so it works.

What can I do if I dropped out of high school at the age of 16 in the UK?

Wow this question pretty much describes what happened to me! I had some serious mental illness during my gcse's. This continued for a couple of years. At the age of 18 i felt ready to enter the world of education again. I went to college and studied a-levels, despite my lack of gcses. They were pretty sympathetic to my situation. I would recommend trying to get back into education. It doesn't even have to be a-levels. You can do a b-tech, you can get an apprenticeship, you can learn to be an electrician.Seriously though, it's really hard to be successful if you don't have any qualifications. I entered the world of work until I was about 21, it sucked! My dad's advice was always 'stay in education as long as possible.' Im now 25 and have a Bsc in Psyvhopogy and I'm doing a masters. Things were really tough for me, but I came out the other side and everything is great. I still suffer from mental health issues, but I feel so much better prepared and I feel so proud of myself, being successful even when suffering through hard times is very rewarding.I really wish you luck, it's a long journey, but it's a worthwhile one. It took me til I was 24 to get a degree, but that doesn't matter. There's no age limit on these things.

How do I drop out of High School at 16 with a job in PA?

I'm not sure dropping out for a job is the right answer for you. As a special needs student with obvious discipline issues, you're already at a wild life disadvantage, massively at risk for incarceration, and dropping out will not improve your experience in life. As it stands, you are entitled, by law, to the least restrictive, educationally appropriate environment. Now, as to what that actually means in YOUR specific case, I can't say.  As a special education student, this not only includes academics, but also life skills, job skills and living independently skills. The district is on the hook to provide you with what you need until you're 21. I wouldn't be letting them off so easy. You need to soak them for every scrap of life advantage you can get. Your IEP is a tool whose purpose is to see to it that you receive the tailored education to which you are entitled, and should never be used as a tool to deny it to you. If that's what your district is doing, your parents need to have a long talk with the good people at the Education Law Center to figure out how to make the district work for, not against you.

Can I drop out of school at 16?

No sure what you are asking. Are you asking about drop out school and proceed to higher education? Or just drop out education? If you are thinking about starting university early, then do it if you can.If that is not the case, I believe it is in your best interest you finish when you have to finish (perhaps 18yo in your country). There is more than education in schools. If you are thinking about leaving because it is too easy, add secondary studies to your agenda, perhaps you can explore other interests so you are sure you really like what you think you like. Anyway, the question is to wide. As a general rule, more education is better than less education. Whatever give you more formal education will be probably the best alternative.Update: IF you are considering dropping out because school is to hard, then DO NOT DO IT. Look for personal or online tutors. Look for help. Study more. Do not give up at the first problem you have. Try harder. You can do it.  ;)Bigger problems with the time become smaller problems. School time helps you to be more mature. Things that seems hard at 16 will look easier at 17 and so on. We all need time to grow and be capable of dealing with bigger things. Do not give up.

How do i drop out of high school at 16 in virginia with my moms consent?

i am almost 17, i cant handle school, i have to wake up at 6 o'clock in the morning, everyone there is being a idiot, they are so stupid, i educate myself using textbooks from the library, and i learned more from them than i learned from school. the bathrooms are disgusting, and i have a hard time learning because i have undiagnosed short term memory loss. and i have social issues so i can't concentrate with other people around me. my mom can't home school me, why? i don't need to tell you that.

i know i need my parents consent, and i have it, but what do i have to do? does she have to call the school and tell them im going to drop out?

DON"T TELL ME ANY STUFF LIKE, STAY IN SCHOOL, OR WHAT EFFECT IT WILL HAVE ON ME! I DON'T CARE ABOUT ALL THE STUFF. ALL I WANT IS INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO DROP OUT.

don't tell me "just don't go" either, i want to know the legal way.

You can leave school at 16 in the UK, but the rules are that you then have to do one of three things:EnglandYou can leave school on the last Friday in June if you’ll be 16 by the end of the summer holidays. You must then do one of the following until you’re 18:stay in full-time education, eg at a collegestart an apprenticeship or traineeshipwork or volunteer (for 20 hours or more a week) while in part-time education or trainingYoiu can find the details here:School leaving ageBasically, probably not that different from the system in Norway. You can’t just leave school and do nothing, or do a dead-end job - and why would you want to?
