What Is An Impressive Piece For A Violin Recital

Help picking pieces for my senior recital (I play viola)?

What about the Telemann G major concerto? Some might think of it as an old warhorse, but it's actually a fine piece that will give you the opportunity to show your Baroque-style playing.

Alternatively, you might like to consider the Henry Eccles Viola Sonata in G minor.

If you wanted to consider a Classical-era piece, there's always the D major concerto by Franz Hofmeister.

What are the easiest classical pieces for violin?

Joshua Kim’s recommendation of the pieces in the Suzuki books is a good one. However if you want something often performed in concert halls, try the following:Massenet’s Meditation from ThaisKreisler’s LiebesleidBeethoven’s Violin Sonata No. 5 (“Spring Sonata”)J. S. Bach’s Violin Concerto No. 1Vivaldi’s The Four SeasonsFranck’s Violin SonataThese pieces can be played by a student with sound violin technique. Be warned though that the pieces are quite demanding interpretation-wise (like the Beethoven’s and the Franck’s.) And as they are often performed, experienced listeners can easily spot the performance flaws.

What classical violin piece is impressive, dramatic and playable by someone who has only 7 months of learning?

You didn’t mention specifically what type you’re interested in which would have helped greatly in coming up with a better answer. Overall, I’d advise you to stay away from slower and more emotional songs. They may appear simple to play (as in having few notes on the sheet music), but in reality they won’t because there are a lot of dynamics involved to truly bring out the emotions and are really easy to mess up. It’s also not easy to sound great playing those since I don’t think you have learnt vibrato. So I’d advise you to go with faster songs with catchy tunes and staccato rather than one requiring lots of sustained playing. Some suggestions: 1. Grand Valse Brilliante by Frederick Chopin 2. La Cumparsita by Rodriguez Gerardo Hernan

What classical violin pieces are similar to Vivaldi's Winter 1st movement?

Vivaldi wrote something like 500+ concerti, nearly half of them for violins, so you probably find another one by him that sounds similar. Since I’m certainly not the biggest fan, nor am I that knowledgeable of his works, google his violin concerti and see what happens. As for others’ work, Bach Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 is all strings, with the middle sections of both the 1st & 3rd movements in minor keys and with rhythmic drive, so these perhaps?Much more modern, but the 1st & 3rd movements of the Khachaturian’s Violin Concerto have some very fast, minor keyed and exotic sounding passages. If you can find any version with David Oistrakh (whom the concerto was written for) playing, you will get to hear just how beautiful this piece can be.

What are some awesome solo violin pieces?

Well, depending on your technical proficiency you can take a look at Bach’s Sonatas and Partitas. They really foment great violin technique; the second partita in D-minor (excluding the legendary Chaccone) is a great place to start. The Allemande from this Partita starts like so:Now if you are really, really, really good and are working on a Sonata or Partita with your teacher (or have completed your study of them [for now]), are playing a major concerto (Brahms, Sibelius, Tchaikovsky, Paganini, Mendelssohn, etc.) and some Paganini caprices (Now I’m not sure where to include Paganini’s caprices, but when you start one of the major concertos you should probably have the chops to work on them), you can take a look at Ysaye’s 6 Sonatas. Those are some incredibly difficult pieces, and a direct “continuation” of Bach. Here’s a bit of the Ysaye Ballade:And a bit of Paganini Caprice 21:(The music is looking a bit tougher now, isn’t it?)Now if you have worked on all of that as well (which I honestly doubt, but let’s continue for the sake of it) you can take a look at one of my favorite solo pieces for the violin, Bartok’s Solo Violin sonata. You could also start looking at some Ernst (The Last Rose of Summer) and some ridiculous Paganini (Nel Cor Piu..).Here’s a bit of Bartok’s Solo Violin Sonata (Tempo Di Ciaccona):(Now we are really getting to some tough stuff!)Now if you have mastered all of those (no way), you can take a look at some Cage Freeman etudes. These are pretty much impossible, even though they have been completely performed. One of them looks like this:(Now if you have any semblance of what is even happening in this excerpt…)If you have mastered all of those, you may just be lying ;)Have fun!

What are some dramatic fast violin pieces, similar to Vivaldi’s Summer (part 4) or the Flight of the Bumblebee?

These are pieces that come to mind:Barber: Violin concerto, op.14 - 3. Presto in moto perpetuoBazzini: Dance of the GoblinsDinicu: Hora Stccato (arr. Heifetz)Kreisler/Pugnani: Praeludium & Allegro - 2. AllegroKreisler/Tartini: Variations on a Theme by Corelli (the 2nd part)Paganini: Caprices op.1 for solo violin - 1. No.1 in EPaganini: Caprices op.1 for solo violin - 5. No.5 in A minor (this is really fun, probably more along the lines of what you're looking for)Paganini: Caprices op.1 for solo violin - 24. No.24 in A minorSarasate: Introduction and Tarantalla, op.43Sarasate: Zapateado for Violin and Piano, op.23Sarasate: Zigeunerweisen, op.20 - 4. Allegro molto vivacePaganini and Sarasate were virtuosos and their pieces are a lot more showy so they're always a good bet if you need other peices.
