What is Cav Scout OSUT like at Benning?

I leave to basic in less than 3 weeks and starting to get really curious... As a Scout what will I learn, what weapons will I use, what exercises will we do.. Etc please just give me as many details as possible.

How is the 19d cav scout mos t training?

If you're reclassing, you'll go in as an insert. If I remember correctly, it'll be around 9 weeks, so you'll only be there for 7 weeks of OSUT. But you'll have much more privileges and freedom than the guys who are there for the entire cycle. You'll also have more responsibilities, since the DI's and the Cav Instructors will expect you to help out in things such as accountability/babysitting.

If you're not an insert, you'll have to go through the entire OSUT cycle, which is 16 weeks. The number of weeks may have increased, since that was the rumor before I left the Armor School. When the Armor School moves to Ft Benning in '11 and the Infantry and the Armor School merge into one big Combined Arms School, the number of weeks may change then as well.

If you don't have your choice of duty stations, you go where the Army needs for you to go.

US Army 19D Cavalry Scout OSUT, Ft. Benning?

I went to MEPS close to a month ago on the fifth of March. I ship out to Cavalry Scout OSUT on the first week of September, 2012. So all I really want to know is, how is 19D OSUT now that it has changed to Ft. Benning? Plus I would like some tips before I ship out. If you are attending 19D OSUT soon or even at the same time as me, let me know. If you have gotten back recently let me know I would love to hear as much as possible from you. I want to be ahead of the game before I ship. Hopefully someone can help me out. Thanks.

What freedoms do you get in infantry AIT at Ft. Benning?

You're going to 11 series One Station Unit Training (OSUT) at Benning.

The difference between Basic Training/Advance Individual Training (AIT) is that OSUT is like continuous Basic Training, meaning you don't get as many privileges or "freedoms" like you do at AIT.

In other words, it ain't a damn thing like "Relaxin' Jackson".

11 series OSUT is to prepare you as a US Army Infantryman for combat, a very real possibility nowadays.

I'm not sure how it is now, but during my 19D OSUT, we didn't get to do hardly anything until the last two weeks.

If I were you, I'd be focusing on what you're about to embark on instead of what "freedoms" you may or may not get to have.

ADDED: "Cav Scouts are lame"?

That's funny coming from a knuckle-dragging bullet-catcher.

I've lost count the number of times I've had to hold the hand of a Grunt because they were too stupid to carry out basic instructions, not to mention the number of times I had to hide from our own Grunts at CMTC since they'd shoot us just as fast as the OPFOR would.

We had to do the same thing during deployments as well.

I know the Army likes to pat Grunts on the head like a drooling lap dog, but that's just to con DA's like yourself into doing something that's not only dangerous, but mindless as well.

Just remember, when Grunts are "leading the way", there's Cav Scouts in front of them, every time.

At what point in training would an insert into 19D OSUT start?

If i was to switch to 19D from a different MOS, would I be put in training when they start AIT? Also, would be in the same barracks as the others who are training? I only ask because I remember that inserts in my AIT stayed in a separate barracks than those going through OSUT

19D Cav Scout training questions?

Welcome to Recon!! Congrats on your enlistment into the Army, and more so on becoming a scout. You will love it!!

As for your question, it is pretty hard to break it down as sometimes they change the schedule up to meeting training requierments and a couple of other factors. For the most part you can count on the first 8-10 weeks of being your typical Army Basic Combat Training. You will learn about PT, drill and ceremony, Army basic knowledge (regulations and how to address person of rank, rank structure, etc.) You will learn team building and of course basic marksmanship (shooting). You learn basic Army movement (like while under fire and all that), map reading, using radios, and land navigation (my favorite).

As you get into the "AIT" phases, it will start to focus more on the scouting craft. More in depth on manuevers, learn about how to raid a house or building, tracking, and all sorts of other things. You will learn to drive the humvee and also the Bradely Fighting Vehicle. For Scouts, it is known as the Cavalry Fighting Vehicle because it is set up a different way in the back more for the use of the Scout mission as opposed to just Infantry.

As for where you will can end up, you could end up pretty much anywhere...lol Most of the time you will end up where there is a deployable combat brigade or armor regiment. There are really too many to list, but some of the top ones you could end up at is Fort Hood, TX, Fort Bliss, TX, Fort Carson, CO, Fort Lewis WA, Fort Benning, GA, and Fort Bragg, NC. You could also end up in Italy and Germany.

Hope this helps out. Good luck and have a lot of fun.

What is 19d Cav Scout OSUT like compared to other MOSs?

How does the AIT for 19d Cav Scout compare to others like 11b (Infantry) and 31b (Military Police) in difficulty?

what are the drop rates in Cav Scout AIT?

this won't discourage me from going for it but I'm just interested.
