I have Chronic Lyme Disease. Are there any alternative medicines that can help relieve some of the symptoms?
If the infection has been killed with antibiotics, the bacteria is gone. However, what sometimes happens if the disease is diagnosed late, the bacteria has time to cause tissues damage, which I suppose can cause long term problems. But "post-Lyme disease syndrome" is tricky and there is controversy as to whether or not these are ongoing symptoms, due to a poorly treated infection or infection treated at a late stage, or there is another cause such as an autoimmune condition. So basically it may be due to a reaction of the immune system that does not switch off, even though the original bacteria causing the infection has been killed. Treatment or management really depends on the symptoms and AltMed has nothing to offer. You need to see a Doctor who specializes in this area.
The pros and cons about alternative medicine?
Speaking about acupuncture, it is an extremely effective medicine in terms of acute and chronic conditions. It is also the best form of preventative medicine. Acupuncture has thousands of years of history and refinement...western medicine has a few hundred.
Alternative Healthcare Options/Medicines?
I think it is all quackery and superstition, except the exercise forms, but that's exercise and something different now, isn't it? I can't, I don't know enough about the variety to make comment. More people in America could use some. What scares me about "alternative" medicine is morons like that BC0 *** insisting that I need to take salt for my high blood pressure when I was asking about an antihistamine in the allergy department. That fool doesn't understand a damned thing about water balance, nor about my medical history. That seems to be the case with most people who suggest roots and berries, superstition and snake oil. They don't know a darned thing about actual medicine, but insist they are experts and give advice that can kill people.
