What Poetic Form Would This Write Fall Into

What are some of the most exciting poetry forms to learn and to write?

Thank you for the A2A.I’m not sure precisely what you mean by “exciting.” I always found the act of writing any poem in itself exciting—and frustrating and demanding and uplifting…If you’re just starting out in writing in form, I’d suggest you start with sonnets. The sonnet is one of the oldest poetic forms in the Western Canon (tankas, ghazals and other Eastern forms may predate it, but the sonnet tradition stretches back to the 13th century). I think mastering one—or all—of the sonnet forms would be an exciting accomplishment. Some of the best sonnets I’ve read are Modern; learning the traditional kinds and then playing with them guarantees hours of poetic fun.See Learning the SonnetSonnet - Definition and Examples of Sonnetsthe Best Sonnets of All TimeAfter you’ve rattled off a few sonnets, you might turn your attention to the sestina, maddeningly difficult to get right, but so satisfying when you do. Elizabeth Bishop’s “Sestina” is generally considered one if the best Modern sestinas and is probably my own favorite.Sestina - Examples and Definition of SestinaPOEM: SESTINA BY ELIZABETH BISHOPThen perhaps a little light relief: the limerick.Poetry through the AgesFor an extensive list of the many different poetic forms, see Different types and forms of Poetry. Browse among them and see what excites your imagination. Happy poeting! All the best.

What is the easiest form of poetry to write?

Now I can imagine that all forms of poetry:Prose,Haiku,Ballad, etc are hard to write, but which one in your opinion is the easiest (or "least diffcult" would probably be a better choice of words) to write?

How can I get better at writing poems?

Poetry is hard work.It involves intense revision, concentration, and practice, practice, practice. It might mean tearing up your work and starting over - or changing something until it no longer resembles what you had in mind when you started. Not all poetry is rhyming, but it’s the only place for a beginner to begin. Too many budding poets fancy themselves excellent free verse writers, and never move beyond writing terrible poetry. Drill yourself with the basics of rhyme. Study common poetry forms, and get out there and write some. If they’re terrible (and they will be) write more. Anything worth doing is worthy doing badly so that eventually you can do it well. But even before you begin writing poetry, begin reading poetry. Read the great poets of the past. Don’t start with pop poetry or modern poetry. Read some translations of Homer’s Odyssey (I recommend Lattimore’s translation.) Read Yeats and Milton, Herbert and Donne, Sidney and Spencer. Read Beowulf. Find out where the heartblood of English lies and make your heart beat to its rhythm.Immerse yourself in poetry, and eventually it will begin to come out of your fingertips. So here are some recommendations for reading:Amazon.com: The Roar on the Other Side: A Guide for Student Poets (9781885767660): Suzanne Underwood Rhodes: BooksAmazon.com: A Poetry Handbook (8601404593888): Mary Oliver: BooksOxford Rhyming Dictionary: Clive Upton, Eben Upton: 9780192801159: Amazon.com: BooksThis last one is every rhyming word in the English language. Well worth the money.I hope this helps. Your above poem is trite, lacking the emotional punch you were probably aiming for. The rhymes are off, and the rhyme scheme is inconsistent. The meter is butchered. Edit: Previous paragraph based on pre-merge question details. All of which is to say, revise it, tweak it, change it, polish it, and love it.It will come.Cheers!

Why do people write poetry and what is the purpose of this art form?

I am not a literary degree holder. I also have no formal education in writing. So I can't tell you a highly philosophical sounding reason. Yet, I write and write irrespective of whether people find it interesting or not.Poetry is something that comes naturally to me. I've always believed that I only rhyme better than most people and they think I've written a poem. People try to tell me otherwise. When I write poems, I don't generally write them. Words often come into my mind like an incident might replay in your head years after it's happened. This often happens at night when I'm free from work and lying on the bed. I like to feel that by writing poetry I let go of the feelings and words stuck inside me that were taking up mental and emotional space. Here's the last poem I wrote and most people who read it liked very much. The first two lines of the poem were playing in my mind on loop so I sat down with pen and paper in dark of the night (others were sleeping in the same room), took a pen and copy I always keep nearby and wrote whatever came to my mind after the first two lines.Like shadows can’t play games in the dark,It’s impossible to get rid of the past.Ashamed you might be to belong to this creed,Standing guilty when accused of nefarious deeds. But you will rise, rise like a phoenix,And soar the skies without any limits. For when the hurdle you decide to overcome,You shall hath the power to become. The child of misfortune you might feel,But if you decide you can make the heavens kneel. They say what’s meant will be that way,To hell with them darling, you go and seize the day.I hope you like it. I really do. When someone can feel something from my poetry, nothing makes me happier. \U0001f60a

What is one of the hardest poetry forms to write in and why?

The Sestina with 39 lines in sextets using ther same 6 last words in a precise pattern, ending with a three line dedicatory called an envoi using those same six words. The Sestina is, in fact, a form of free verse, but with discipline.

I'd also call the Sapphic ode difficult because of its metre.

Is it necessary to fall in love to be able to write poetry?

Hell yes!!!The word ‘Love’ encompasses the entire cosmos! If you are writing about nature, you need to be in love with every element of it, all the forces that govern it... for eg. poems of P.B.Shelley like ‘The cloud’ ‘Ode to a Skylark’ will narrate that!Embarking upon Life— fall in love with its ups and downs! Alfred Lord Tennyson’s ‘The Brook’ ; Robert Frost’s creation ‘Stopping by Wood on Snowy Evening’ (my all-time favorites) :)The urge to inspire—- fall in love with courage! Rudyard Kipling’s ‘If’ (Always works out for me!)Writing about the spirit of nationalism— Rabi Thakur’s (Rabindranath Tagore) ‘Chitto jetha bhoyshunyo’ (Where the mind is without fear)Penning down the scenic-beauty of the countryside—fall in love with the ways of living in a rural area, the ponds, the lotuses, the paddy-fields, the uncountable temples devoted to ‘Gods’ of Hindu Mythology! (Poems of Harivanshrai Bachhan, Gulzar saab, etc.Phew! there are endless such plots…in fact fall in love with each and every creation of yours and notice the magic it weaves.Cheers!(P.S.—And you thought love meant… the ‘girlfriend-boyfriend’ crap or any form of permutation or combination you can make out of that!!??—Cummon!)

How can I excel in writing poems?

Hello Arsheya Kak, thanks for the question.I personally write for myself and usually when it hits me thats when I write down. That's how I actually started to write. I started blogging which helped me to write more. And I also started taking part every year in the NaPoWriMo. NaPoWrimo is to write 30 poems in 30 days in the month of April every year. You can visit their official website to read more about it or can also visit my blog too as to get an idea as how it has helped me to write. I started writing based on the prompts (which is optional) given each day which helped me to learn and write more.Secondly, I started searching and reading different forms of poems. Trust me you will be so suprised to know there are so many forms of poem & how amazing it is. You would fall in love with many forms and styles as you get to know about it. You would love to try those forms immediately that's how very inspiring it is. This will also help you to build your knowledge about poetry, the forms, the style, the vocabulary, poets and many more as you keep exploring.Third, recently I have joined YourQuote. YourQuote Baba gives topics, words & idea to write on every single day. Incase you need inspiration, to explore your talent, to write on various topics, then do get registered there and start writing…Also make sure you read other's work too which will help you a lot to learn. You can see so many different styles people write and how talented people are. Even if the lines don't rhyme still you can write a beautiful poem. It isn't mandatory that the poem must rhyme. As you read more there is a possibility that you would be inspired by their write up and you never know you would have started to write based on the inspiration you get. I have personally been inspired & have written a few poems based on others poem as a reply or as a continue to it or as a different opinion on it. So, anything can inspire you to write.I hope my answer helps you in some way and hope to read your poems soon. :)Thanks,With Love,Preethi.B
