What Power Converter Should I Buy

Where in Saigon or Rạch Giá where I can buy a power converter from 220v to 110v so I can recharge stuff.?

Nguyen King is a huge electronics and appliance store in District 1 about three blocks West of Ben Thanh Market. They definitely have 220 vac - 110 vac power converters because I bought a couple there myself.

The power converters that you seek are pretty common, and you might find one at your nearest Co-Op market or Fivimart. Check at those locations first before heading all the way into Saigon.

Good luck!

USA power converters to Korea power converters?

I am moving to Korea in a few months, and i am taking my hair curlers, laptop, ipod and everything. The thing is the plugs are different, can you buy a converter anywhere? And how much would it be? I would love as many informations as possible! Thank you.

Where can I buy a power converter/adapter in Wien, Vienna, Austria for US appliances?

tarvau is not quite correct: most phones, laptops, etc. will work on 220 and 110. they automatically switch over, or have a setting you must change (older models)!
The adapter you should find in any radio/electronics shop or if all fails, at the Vienna Airport !! Usually they come in kits with world-wide suitable plugs.

if this as well fails, try E-bay.at : http://tinyurl.com/nbhexx

what you are looking for is called a "Reise adapter" - just make sure it's for Europe!!

good luck

What power inverter would run my air compressor?

First, the HP rating of a motor is the output power, not the input electrical demands. Does this plug into a normal 120V socket? 1.5HP is 20amps full load current (10amps for 240V) according to the national electrical code. I have my doubts the motor is REALLY 1.5HP, since a lot of marketing of motor products list some kind of "maximum" HP, which you would never sustain in real life because the motor would stall. If you can find a current (amps) rating for the compressor, that would be the thing to use.

Next, it will draw more current during startup, and the inverter needs to handle that. If it lists a stalled rotor current or similar on the nameplate you could use that. The national electrical code would allow an instantaneous trip circuit breaker of 8 times the full load current for a motor. My point is the inverter size will be significantly larger than the running amps of the motor would indicate. The 1200W inverter you mention can supply 10amps at 120V. That won't cut it for a 1.5HP motor, but like I said, you may not really have a motor that big.

Power Converters for my laptop (travelling to China)?

I live in China, have for the last year and I have two HP notebooks from the USA.

First, both my notebook have power supplies that auto senses the voltage and adjusts accordingly. (Check your power supply, it should say INPUT: 100 - 240V. If it does, you need no power converter)

Second, they plug right into the wall with no adapter. There are different types of plug configurations in China though. If your laptop won't plug in, then buy a power strip (very common in China) that has the plug configuration on the strip that you need.

I bought a kit of plug converters in the USA and have yet to use it in China, other then the power supply for the few items that I brought that were not duel voltage.

I hope this helps.

Peace

I have a question about power converters, for traveler's?

I'm going to Paris and Italy in a couple weeks and I have a "Jensen power and travel voltage converter kit. 1600 watts, converts 220-240 volts."
I bought it just so I can blow dry my hair and charge my iPod with a normal wall charger. On the front of the box it shows pictures of like hair dryers, curling irons, steamers and stuff of that sort. So I know I'll be able to use it for my hair dryer BUT can I use the same one with charging my iPod? or will it blow up my charger? Any advice will do. Thanks a bunch!

Here are links to either of the converters that I found, again I have the 1,600 one but do I need the 50 watt one?
