What Would My Food Consist With $200 A Month For 1 Person

Can a person live on SSI or Social Security disability?

SSI is extraordinarily difficult if you think you are going to live a life like everybody else. You have to make major compromises on the things you want. You have to share things most people don't have to share. It is really nearly impossible to live on if you live alone with no other support.

SSDI is an entirely different story, What some people receive is substantial and others moderate - so they really have no trouble at all. Those that receive the SSI level - it is just as difficult.

Can I live off of 300 dollars a month?

You're on the right track. When you say "food for 2 nights each week", that sort of depends on what is your taste. You can make Baked Potatoes pretty cheap, and if you grow some of your own veggies maybe it doesn't cost much but you know better than I what veggies you can grow and what proportion of what you eat is covered by them. Are you vegetarians? I might commonly use an estimate of about $5 per person per meal, which is a budget to allow for steak or salmon or something fancy, and also allows for some fast food, but you could make it on half that if you are light on meat and mostly veggies.

Oh, and for a term like "Bathroom Essentials" make sure you and your honey agree on what exactly this means. I'm sure my wife considers some things to be essential that I wouldn't think of, so perhaps she is responsible for elaborating the monthly budget for this category.

For each item that you've elaborated, put a $ per month estimate next to it, and then make the total and see if it is over or under $300.

If you use my estimate of $5 per meal per person, and then you are responsible for 5 breakfast, 3 lunch and 2 dinner so 10 meals per week x 3 people x 4 weeks/month = 120 person/meals per month or about $600 worth just for the food. Obviously you need to really get used to inexpensive food / veggies you grow yourself.

Dear people on Food Stamps: Why do you shop at Wal-Mart?

My sister has been on foodstamps for 12 years, and she just used them to get a $50 birthday cake from Kroger...We can't afford to waste money like that because we actually have to work for it, AND we have bills to pay...All she pays for is her data plan on her Android (she traded in her Blackberry), 2 cartons of MARLBOROS (no cheap cigarettes for HER) every week, and gas for her Durango so she can go shopping every day.

She gets way more foodstamps than she could ever need, especially since she eats out almost every day (she says she hates to cook)...My family never spends as much on groceries as she gets in foodstamps every month...It encourages people to waste money...and food...Her daughter ate dinner with us a couple months ago, loaded up her plate, and threw half of it in the garbage...My kids were shocked...My kids were taught not to waste food because it costs MONEY.

Able-bodied people who refuse to work, shouldn't be fed, housed and medicated by other able-bodied people who work for a living.
