What happens in NFL post-season?

Why does the NFL season start so late and end in the coldest time of the year in the middle of the winter, and who came up with this schedule?

It is a terrible time of year for people who go to the games and sit still for 3 hours watching the game. However, if you look at the players, they are typically doing better than the fans. Running around and exercising makes you warm. If you are a starter, you can put on gloves to protect the hands and move around to raise your core temp.Summer is a different story. With all of those pads and helmets, you can’t help but to get really hot. Next season, notice the uniforms. The (outdoor) home teams in the south will always wear the white jerseys in September forcing the away teams to wear darker jerseys. While it is regrettable, it isn’t uncommon to hear stories of a young kid dying of heat stroke in August at least once every two years. I don’t think I have ever heard of a player dying of hypothermia at a game or practice.

Why doesn't the NFL start their season on Labor Day weekend?

They used to. But, because a lot of football fans travel on Labor Day weekend, the owners decided to start the regular season the weekend after Labor Day.And, with the debate about expanding the regular-season schedule to 18 games but cutting the preseason in half, the owners will have to start the regular season in middle to late August, for fear of, if they don’t, the regular season ending the middle of January and the Super Bowl being played in the middle of February.

How long does an average pre season nfl game last?

About three hours. The preseason games tend to be on average about 15 minutes shorter than the regular season.

Why do the NFL seasons start so late (July pre-season, September regular season)?

The NFL season is structured around Labor Day and the first weekend in February. The season opener is always the Thursday after Labor Day, when most kids are back in school and families are done with their vacations. 17 weeks from that puts the final games near New Year’s Day.This puts the NFL playoffs after the college bowl games, except that the new BCS championship game comes after Wild Card Weekend. The next two weeks are the NFL’s exclusively, and then there is a two week buildup to the Super Bowl, typically the first weekend in February - a day when the NFL dominates the scene. To ensure that, you have to start after Labor Day.

Why is the day after the end of the NFL's regular season known as Black Monday?

Why? Because a lot of head coaches, assistant coaches and front-office personnel get fired. The name itself is fairly new. It certainly doesn't date back as far as the Black Monday stock-market crash of 1987, and I don't remember it before the 21st Century.

How many weeks are in the NFL season 2015?

NFL in a nutshell:32 teams, each play 16 games in regular season that spans 17 weeksEach team gets a bye week - where players can restAfter the regular season, playoff begin. 12 teams qualify for playoffs.Playoffs consists of wildcard week, divisional week, conference championships, a bye-week and ends with SuperBowl.

What are some of the greatest in season turnarounds in NFL history?

Yes. The 1976 Pittsburgh Steelers are a fine example. They were 1-4 losing to Oakland Minnesota New England and Cleveland. They even lost quarterback Terry Bradshaw in the process. The rookie Mike Kruzcek took over. They made the biggest comeback in NFL history. They finished 10-4 and only gave up an incredible unbelievable 28 points in 9 weeks on defense. The defense stepped it up due to the inexperienced rookie Kruzcek. They beat Baltimore 40-14 in the playoffs but lost to Oakland in the AFC Championship December 26 1976 24-7. Yes I cannot think off the top of my head a more incredible comeback overall.
