When Will My Hair Stop Falling

Is it true your hair will fall out if you stop relaxing it?

Actually, it will, especially if you don't take care of it. Your hair is it's strongest at the roots. When you have new growth coupled with relaxed hair then at some point your hair will start breaking off at the new growth when you start combing/brushing/styling it. If you've ever gone longer than you should have between touch-ups then you'll see breakage at the new growth - your hair will break off and the only hair left in that spot will be the new growth. Now you probably won't have patches of bald spots, but if the breakage is bad then you'll definitely notice that your already relaxed hair broke off at the new growth. This is common.

Now, if you want to get technical, no your hair won't "fall out" but it will break off if you go too long between touch-ups. Been there, done that, which is one reason I stopped relaxing altogether. No, you won't go to school bald, lol, but some parts of your hair will be shorter than others. It might be noticeable or it might not be noticeable. You won't be completely bald in those spots, however long your new growth is is how long your hair will be in that part.

If you want to stop relaxing then I suggest you start putting your hair in a protective style like braids or weaves. If you start going without a touch-up then your hair is going to be more likely to break off at the new growth. It'll start breaking whenever you start styling, combing, or brushing your hair. Having a weave or braids keeps you from having to comb your hair and as such it keeps your hair from breaking off.

Look up some relaxed to natural transitioning videos on youtube and see how other girls transition their hair without cutting it. If you want to go natural, you'll have to cut off all the relaxed hair. You don't have to do it all at once; you can grow out your hair for a few years, but it also depends on how well you take care of it. If you don't take care of it then your relaxed hair will start breaking off at the new growth...
