Yes, they are. Mostly the hardcore type of gamers prefer to build their custom pcs and they have some amazing specs but they are very expensive and their are also many disadvantages like portability for example.Now coming back to your question. Laptops are amazing for gaming. They are now competing and even defeating these custom pcs. Some laptops like Alienware or Msi Titan or the new launched Hp Omen 17 are actually very good and are great for gaming. Plus every other benefit of having a laptop. But they also cost a Fortune. It all depends on usage and lifestyle.

I’d have to go with the ASUS GL703VM-WB71. This laptop definetly holds its own with an i7–7700HQ, GTX 1060 6GB, 16GB DDR4 RAM, and 1TB storage. The only drawback is that there’s no SSD. If you were to buy the laptop by Monday, you could get it with a 256GB SSD for only $50 more. If not, don’t buy the ssd version at full price for $200 more. Hi you will get conflicting answers to this question but 600 is far too cheap to expect any sort of performance out of a laptop so now you know you need to spend twice what you want to pay to get anything with any performance.
