What exactly is gender-role transcendence?

That example is just allowing a kid to be a kid. It's fine. Gender role transcendence on the other hand is gender bending. It is teaching your kid that there is no such thing as male and female, that there are no roles, and that having a dick or vagina makes no difference in any way.

What book is the movie Transcendence based on?

I feel sure it was a short story. I read it years ago and I don't read science fiction anymore. It possibly had a different title and a obscure author or TV script writer. Maybe I saw it in a science fiction magazine. I've been researching it for you because I just watched it tonight on HBO NOW. It’s very good. A bit frightening. One critic said Transcendence was billed as a thriller but ought to have been listed as a tragic love story to attract more viewers. I found at least 2 Wikipedia essays with a long list of stories and books about humans downloading minds into computers. I found something that seems it could be the basis for the Trancedence. Paraphrased —A dying man volunteers to be the first human to upload his mind into a computer. There was a TV story on Amazing Stories S02E12: in 1989—The Eternal Mind, Episode 12. I suppose you could look it up and watch it. There is a book on Amazon called The Eternal Mind, a free Kindle ebook, but I think it's non-fiction. Sounds intriguing so I downloaded it. I hope it's a book about how people create reality with their minds. Thanks for your question. I love researching a mystery. I had actually been thinking your question when I found it this on Quora!

What are some other movies like Limitless, Lucy, and Transcendence?

From the movies you have listed I understand that you want the kind of movies where a drug (or anything like it) gives some kind of super-human abilities or makes a person super intelligent to a believable extent. All the 3 movies are sci-fi and thrillers. And so are some of these: 1. EDGE OF TOMORROWA gripping movie from the beginning with its intellectual story line, which is logical to a believable extent. All these combine to give a very entertaining two hours.2. SOURCE CODEIt is one of those few gripping sci-fi thriller movies that work effectively without exaggeration. The movie is thoroughly original and intense with a very good performance from Jake Gyllenhaal.3. GATTACAThis is a brilliant under-rated movie and it is incredible. Good story here too. Ethan Hawke also gives a subtle, good performance. 4. ELYSIUMThis one is a typical sci-fi, thriller. It may be a good entertaining movie to watch, if you like it.And as mentioned in other answers: These are also movies you could consider seeing what you have liked.1. PHENOMENON (highly related to the type of movies you want) 2. JUMPER (slightly related)3. THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT (less related but good)

Considering that  in the film "Transcendence", the virus wipes out all networked devices, how did the nanoparticles right at the end of the film survive?

So look, there are many, many holes in the plot of Transcendence, but there actually was an internally consistent explanation here.Early in the film, the protagonist installs copper mesh in the garden to create a sort of Faraday Cage. They made a point of this in the film when he says they put it in so that cell phones won't work in there and they can have peace. So the nanoparticles are in the garden, which means they were never reached by the cell signal, wifi signal, or whatever other wireless transmission media were used to disseminate the virus.

Why was the movie Transcendence so underappreciated?

Read the reviews.Keep going, I’ll wait. Skim about 15 of them. What they have in common is ridiculously simple. Most of the reviewers assumed they knew what was going on and didn’t bother to finish the movie. Transcendence relishes in the moment and takes a slow pace. It moves inexorably towards a very specific conclusion but if you don’t pay attention it’s easy to assume the wrong one.So yeah the truth is that most reviewers didn’t watch the whole movie, or tuned out before they got to the end. You can see it in their reviews: they completely missed the point. That’s why the movie is criminally underrated.
