Who Can Offer Some Good Tips For Proper Infant Boai Baby Car Seat Installation

Does a toddler count as a person on a boat?

Technically it does... Safety and common sense is the key ingredient here... You not only want to be safe, and you want to look safe.

You bring up a question the "boat manufacturing industry" has been fighting for some time now, as manufacturers currently (by an "old" law) only have to use the weight of 50% fuel and 150 lbs per person (without any consideration for the weight of clothing or extra gear) when determining the "safe person capacity" of their boats.
On the other side of the issue however, is the USCG's position that the average American male now weighs 190 lbs, and the average American woman weighs 152 lbs. Now in your case, 8 people really = 1200 lbs.
If you take 3 "average weight" couples, plus two 40 lb. ice chest, and 8 lbs per person of carry on gear (ie: food, beverages, clothing, towels, PFD, etc.) and one 20lb 18 month old toddler - that in fact, would reach the maximum safe weight capacity of your boat. Now add 2 more adults and top off your fuel tank - and you have just exceeded your maximum weight by 450 pounds. Now if any of those adults are closer to weighing 300 lbs then then 150 lbs...then you are at 150% of your maximum safe load capacity - and with weight shifts, people standing, moving around on the boat - it can become very unstable.

Now, I don't mention all this to scare you... only to make you aware of the safety issues. If all the people on your boat are skinny... you will be fine... but if all of them rival a Japanese Sumo wrestler... you might want to think again...

Happy & Safe Boating,
John

Why do people bring babies on airplanes?

I've been traveling weekly on commercial airlines for about six months now, and I've been checking up on some of the questions here. I see when I travel a lot of people taking toddlers on airplanes, and people here asking what's the best way to travel with babies.

I can't stand it when someone brings a baby or toddler on the flight I'm on. They're loud, obnoxious, mischevious, kick the seats, and extremely irritating to other passengers.

Plus, it's really really really bad for the kids, especially young ones. The constant changes in air pressure is painful to them, the place is new, the large amount of people is threatening ...

Why, pray tell, do people expose their children to this environment (and when will airlines figure out that babies don't belong on airplanes)??

Can shaking a pacifier in a 1 month old baby's mouth cause shaken baby syndrome?

there r mild symptoms of SBS , and more serious ones. my little one whos 3.5 months now, is a perfectly happy baby. aware, coos, always wants to play, sleeps well. BUT, we r having trouble with her feedings and weight. she was fine for the first month and then she just would bend and scream and pass a LOT of gas during feedings ONLY. some doctors say its acid reflux, others say GI issues like allergies/ intolerance. shes on special formula and acid reflux meds. doctors were not concerned as she was still putting on weight.then she started decreasing in percentile and now, she is actually losing weight.she just got over RSV and dehydration and i thought she lost weight becoz she was sick, but shes been like that and now after shes better, shes still the same.she still gets those pain/ screaming/gas episodes while feeding but they r a lot lot better and she still wont eat!!! shes 3.5 months old and eating only 2-3 ounces every 4-4.5 hours and sleeps thru the night with no feedings. were still with the GI specialists, but i just cant stop my mind from wondering why on earth is she not eating! and now regarding the question, i remember when she was about a month old, my husband was trying to soothe her with the pacifier and he kinda got a little frustrated coz she was crying so hard she couldnt "feel" the pacifier in her mouth so he shook the pacifier (side to side) in her mouth so fast that i remember seeing her head move side to side as quickly as he did it.he said he didnt do it hard, but i thought it was hard considering how little she is. she was in her car seat and her head was supported. no vomiting and no signs at all regarding SBS. except since, her feeding problems / weight started. its been 2 months now. could this be mild SBS? if it is, can it last 2 months and baby is perfect except for poor appetite? i might be completely paranoid or crazy..but i would like to hear ur openions.
please no rude comments. thank you..
