Why Are My Gums Swollen

Oh no! My gums are swollen! :.(?

Teeth are meant to last a lifetime. By taking good care of your teeth and gums, you can protect them for years to come. Tooth decay is not just a problem for children. It can happen as long as you have natural teeth in your mouth. Tooth decay ruins the enamel that covers and protects your teeth. When you don’t take good care of your mouth, bacteria can cling to your teeth and form a sticky, colorless film called dental plaque. This plaque can lead to tooth decay and cavities. Gum disease can also cause your teeth to decay. There is some correlation in the saying ‘getting long in the tooth’ with the associated wear and tear of age. However premature gum loss is normally caused by using a hard bristled toothbrush in combination with an improper ‘scrubbing’ toothbrush technique. Swollen gums can also accelerate gum loss. Other times it is a result of passive eruption/growth of your teeth.

Why are my gums swollen with braces?

Talk to your dentist about it, clinical examination of the actual case is necessary (done in clinics) rather clinical assumptions (done in quora). Here’s my clinical assumption which is in general view. You might not cleaning or brushing your teeth properly or you might not have the proper tool in maintaining the cleanliness of your teeth. Having braces on in your teeth is not as easy as not having braces. Brushing teeth with braces on it takes time and dedication. You can use an orthobrush which is intended for teeth with braces (it has a different bristles shape than ordinary toothbrush) which include interproximal space brush (in between your teeth) and dental floss, use mouthwah as well for sure having a swollen gums creates bad smelling odor (bad breath).Advice: go to your dentist and if necessary or needed for oral prophylaxis (OP) avail it, after your OP treatment start religiously clean your teeth using the above mentioned cleaning paraphernalia.Good Luck!

Why are my gums swollen?

If part of your gum suddenly swelled up, chances are that something (like a food particle) got under gum in that particular area. If a good part of your gums started to swell up, chances are that you are experiencing gingivitis. When a foreign body gets under your gums, your body sense it and tries to remove it. This can be done by “washing it away” (with saliva), rubbing it away (with your tongue), or of it cannot be reached, the body sends white blood cells to try to “dissolve” away the unwanted guest. Too many blood cells causes a traffic jam increasing the pressure in that area. Then, when you touch this puffed up inflamed area, it bleeds. This is gingivitis, or inflammation of the gingiva (gum).A typical cause of gingivitis is plaque accumulating under the gum, then hardening to evolve into calculus also known as tartar. Good oral hygiene will stop gingivitis in most cases, especially if you work on it with your hygienist, who will remove this calculus for you. It will be up to you to keep that area plaque free.

Why is my gum swollen between my teeth?

If it is one tooth it is probably something caught between you teeth. If it is between all the teeth, it is gum disease.Swelling and bleeding are the signs of gum disease or gingivitis. The is caused by plaque. Plaque is a product of bacteria, sugar and mucin, a protein in the saliva. Plaque can cause cavities when the bacteria produce acid. Other bacteria may produce toxins that cause the gum reaction.Plaque hardens into calculus. This calcified plaque acts as a further irritant to the gum tissue, like a splinter under the finger nail only painless. At this stage the problem is totally reversible. The teeth cleaned and scaled to remove the calculus. Following up with proper brushing and flossing with regular dental checkups will prevent the return of the gum disease.Left unchecked this process affects the underlying bone. This is periodontal disease (periodontitis) more commonly know as pyorrhea. Given time, otherwise perfectly normal teeth will loosen and be lost from lack of bone support."Prevent" is the key word.

I woke up and my gums were swollen!?

I woke up this morning and my gums were swollen ONLY between my 2 front teeth and behind them. It's like a bubble in front and behind them. It wasn't like this when I went to sleep but then I woke up this morning and BAM swollen gum. It's not like this on. Any of my other teeth. It feels really weird. And I flossed before I went to bed. I tried flossing between my front teeth just a few minutes ago and it's hard to because it hurts the swollen gum between them.

Why are they swollen? And just in that one spot?
Also, how long will it be till the swelling goes down?
Going to the dentist isn't an option because my parents can't afford it right now. I also tried brushing it lightly but it didn't help. I also tried gurgling water with baking soda thinking that maybe it was bacteria but no luck.

Is it going to leave a gap or a hole between my front teeth when it goes away? Because it looks like the little bubble goes slightly over both front teeth.

Do any of you know how to make it not swollen any more? Or make the swelling go down faster?

Should I wear my retainer if my gums are swollen?

If your gums are irritated or sore do not brush your teeth but use a mouth wash so this will help to prevent it from getting infected. Drink water not hot or cold drinks as this will make it worse. Don't use a mix of salt and water as this could irritate it more use an antiseptic mouth wash.

If you don't wear your retainer your teeth will move but if you only don't wear it for 5 hours your teeth still might move but once you put the retainer back on they will move back.

Best of luck and hope you gums feel better soon.
