Why were conservatives upset about the deficit when Obama was president but don’t seem to care about it now that Trump is in charge?
Okay, this may upset both sides of the political ideology spectrum, but deficit spending is the fault of both parties, and either one that tries to point the finger at the other is being disingenuous and hypocritical. Please don't try to convince me or anyone else that either party is pure while the other is guilty because you're pissing on our shoes and telling us it's raining.The only President in the last 50 years who gets credit for overseeing a budget surplus is Bill Clinton, and he wouldn't have done that if it wasn't for a Republican Congress who held the majority in both houses after Clinton was in office for two years. Remember the "Hillarycare" debacle?Her plan would have certainly generated deficit spending had the Democrats retained at least one house of Congress after 1994 elections.Bill Clinton was smart enough to take lemons and make lemonade by cooperating with Republicans in Congress and engineering budget cuts and roll back some Reagan era tax cuts to eventually leave Bush II with a budget surplus as Clinton left office. Of course, Bush blew it on a rush of military spending post-911 and the 2nd Iraq War. Of course, Democrats were pointing the finger at Bush for deficit spending at that time.Only about 1/3 of the US federal budget is made up of discretionary spending, of which the President and Congress have any direct control. The other 2/3 is made up of entitlement programs, such as Social Security and Veterans benefits. What the President and Congress do have control over are revenues, such as tariffs, taxes, and government fees, and some of these are locked in by the legislation that created them.So, don't give me any crap about whether one side is worse that the other, because they're both bad.
Remember when conservatives attacked Obama for eating Dijon mustard? Or wearing a tan suit? Do you miss those simpler times?
At this point in Obama's presidency were attacking him for using Dijon mustard, because apparently that made him an "elitist." Later, conservatives would attack Obama for wearing a tan suit, and for saluting while holding a latte, and for eating arugula. Compare that to Trump who is facing four separate investigations over possible collusion with Russia to manipulate a US election. The contrast really highlights the arrogance and indifference of the conservative agenda.
How come no American Conservative ever won the Nobel Peace Prize?
by most definitions, "conservatism" is defined by an unwillingness to accept or evoke change. Why would a prize be awarded to a group who is content with the way of the world? By comparison, progress is defined (again, by definition) by progressives. Pretty cool. And congrats to the pres. The rest of the world is finally showing a little respect for our leaders again. Funny what happens when you put a respectable leader in office, huh? BTW- the person who mentioned Teddy Roosevelts Nobel Prize- you are correct about him winning. However, the big difference is that by comparison to todays "conservatives" Teddy was a PROGRESSIVE, widely regarded as the father of the conservation movement, a movement mostly mocked by todays "Fox conservatives".. EDIT- and to the bright folks mentioning the 11 day thing- he was NOMINATED 11 days into his administration, not awarded. BIG difference.
Why do many conservatives still post hateful comments, criticisms, and questions about Obama and Clinton? Why would they still matter if Trump is the President? Did Liberals do the same regarding Bush and Cheney after 2008?
