Why Do People Have The Tendency To Hurt Cute Animals

Why do people like hurting small animals? Is there a scientific reason for this brutal instinct in our heads?

I would say that most people don't like hurting small animals. Most people do not want to see any animal in pain.Teenage boys often go through a destructive phase. Some will play with knives or fire, some will break things, some begin to play sports and some will hurt animals. Personally I killed hundreds of animals between the ages of  12 and 17. But for me that was while hunting with family. Other kids I knew at that age did horrible things like put fireworks under frogs and things like that. One guy I knew tried to run over a skunk and ended up wrecking his car in a ditch. I believe that the reason boys often do that is because in our culture there is no established rite of passage into adulthood for men. Girls become women automatically. Boys need to prove themselves before being men. But no one has explained to them what they need to do to become men. They may have aggressive tendencies that have no outlet, and these will need to be addressed before they are men. If a boy has strong male role models he will end up ok. He may be able to direct his aggression into sports or hunting or rebuilding engines. If he doesn't have strong male role models he may join a gang or break windows or kill animals for fun. In other cultures that have a rite of passage this behavior is uncommon. For most men who hurt animals, the urge goes away after a short time. It is interesting to note that many serial killers were the ones who hurt animals. But this isn't saying much. Most of the boys who killed small animals never even thought about killing another person.

Why do a lot of people have this instinct to hurt cute animals?

This activity is not done by "normal people." It is done by people who are completely insecure about themselves and need professional help.

EDIT: According to your Additional Details, it seems you may also need time to grow up. Sometimes 11 or 12 year olds have a tendency to do things that aren't normal for mature people. One day you'll look back and ask, "What was I thinking when I was 12?"

Why do some human beings derive pleasure from hurting animals?

It is a perverse fact that if one has a choice of hurting someone or giving them pleasure  at a press of a button, that a majority would be more comfortable hurting. Lets skip the ultra minority that argue the fence sit position. Now Think carefully about it if you were given the choice.. Like I said, it is a perverse position. We are even ok about having accidentally hurt someone and we may be profusely apologetic. Yet accidentally pleasure someone ??The thought is scary ! Now you know why war is easier to justify, yet no closer to why it is so.

I like hurting animals. Please help me?

I'm almost 16 now, and just recently I developed sort of a "tendency" for hurting animals. Now, it's not like I wake up every day thinking - "ahhh, todays' a great day to kill my neighbors dog". Rather, it just starts with an "innocent" walk to the park. I go through the playground, then across the baseball field, and then I head to pond, where I usually find a group of small duckling/geese. The first thing that comes to my mind is: "awww, they look so cute, I wish I could just snuggle one of them"; and then this weird sensation goes through my body, it's kind of like a mix of stress and desire. So I look around If anyone's looking, and start chasing the crowd of geese. When the little ones are separated from their mother I quickly grab one of them the by the neck and hide somewhere behind a tree. I just sit there for a few minutes and pet the duck/ geese, after a while it becomes boring, and I just start slapping it lightly. Then adrenaline starts rushing through my veins and the innocent play turns into a nightmare for the animal.

I find myself in these types of situations more and more often; and I usually end up killing the animal. Please help me, I don't want to hurt any animals, but often I just can't resist the urge. I know animal cruelty is bad, so I really won't to get hold of my problem. Also, please don't respond if you're going to say something like "people like you should rot in jail for those types of things", it doesn't help. Please, help me, I'm want to change.

*By the way, Christians: How should I ask God for forgiveness?
