Why do bmx bikes have only a rear brake?
ok so thses days you have three types of bmx rider.. you have the brakeless who are complete and total nut jobs.. they ride no brakes because they say they cant do barspins and whips whith them.. plus its too much weight... ohh a whole half a pound... then there is a the straight cable kids, like me... they run a single rear brake, we can still barspin and whip but after landing you have to unwind the cable.. boo hoo, some run gyros so you dont need to unwind but then that adds about a pound and a half and a ton of un needed noise when you land hard... most riders consider us girly cause we like to stop, i use them to be able to do brake stall tricks like abubaka's and fufanu's then there are the full cable kids, front and back brakes almost always with a gyro, when we see these kids we tend to laugh cause it looks like a little kid bike but i feel as they are the masters of the sport.. they came to the stunning realization that if you stop the wheels mid air then any rotation they make, it being a backflip or a spin.. becomes easier because there is no spin drag from the wheel.. also love to do all sorts of brake tricks.. all these have there own sub styles but breakless is taking over
Why do some bmx bikes have brakes and some don't?
I was looking on the "Wethepeople" bike website and some bikes had brakes on the handles and some didn't. It seemed like the lower end bikes had the brakes. I was looking to get a Wethepeople Reason, but it did not have handle brakes on them. Do they have brakes at all?
Do pro bmx bikes have brakes?
I get at least one kid per week in my shop asking me to remove their brakes. I give them 2 options... either allow me to call their parents and get a release signed so I don't get sued when the kid dies or gets hurt, or I simply say no. They then ask to use my tools to take them off themselves, to which I replay HECK no. If you want to ride brakeless, just don't use brakes but for goodness sake leave the things on!

It is illegal to ride any bicycle, off of your own property and in a public place anywhere in Britain without brakes, unless you are riding a track bike on an enclosed race track or velodrome. Simple as that ! Edit : even a fixed wheel bicycle must have at least one brake, for safe riding it is normally the front brake only. Construction & Use Regulations This Statutory Instrument (1983 No. 1176) is part of the Road Traffic Acts. Accordingly it is illegal to ride a pedal cycle, including an electrically-assisted pedal cycle, on a public road unless it meets the appropriate requirements. Specifically: the brakes must be as described below – except in the case of a pedal cycle that is sold for off-road racing on enclosed tracks. . In the case of a pure pedal cycle (no electrical assistance) these regulations are simply and entirely concerned with the brakes. Most sorts of cycle are required to have at least two efficient braking systems, by which the front wheel (or wheels) can be braked independently of the rear wheel (or wheels). This means that if there are two wheels at the front or rear, the relevant system must act on the pair. It also means that the combined operation of front and rear brakes from one lever is not allowed except as an extra braking system: additional to the two independent front and rear braking systems required by this law..... a fixed wheel drive counts as a braking system – on that wheel only.
Where can I find a BMX style bike with a foot brake?
Great replies - let me give some more details to better clarify what I'm trying to say. When I say I'm looking for a straight handlebar, I mean not the curved ones that cruisers Ive seen have. Bmx. Why no gyros anymore on the pro bikes?
I personally prefer no gyro. Its simpler, which is part of what bmx is all about. (as compared to mtbs) Unless you're throwing triple barspins and tailwhips, or you ride flatland, theres no need for one. As to why they took them off, Its simple.. most riders don't need one. And to the other guy.. sorry, but these posts are starting to get annoying... These days the title BMX includes racing and freestyle. BMX bike refers to either type of bike. In my personal experience, I have never heard someone call a BMX bike a freestyle bike. At least where I live, hardly anyone races bmx, and the reference is BMX for freestyle BMX, and BMX racing for.. well, BMX racing.. .. I'm in my teens, i ride with BMXers. I guess i should know...
Bike handlebars and brake levers question.?
So I've recently rid myself of gears and have a single speed trial bike. now that i don't need the brake levers with shifters on them, i want to get some new, simple 2 finger levers, nothing too fancy. I've found some on amazon for only $10, but will they fit the handlebars? Do all bike handlebars come in around the same diameter? I think these are bmx levers, but i want to use them for my mountain bike. Would they fit?
