Why Does Americans Never Talk About Dominican Republic People In The Media

Why do people say all dominicans are black if im dominican and i have light skin?

im dominican i have white skin green eyes blonde hair my father is dominican he has blonde hair blue eyes and light skin my mom is dominican shes a natural red head she has light skin and green eyes so apperantly not all dominicans are black what do you say to that media and evryone in my family has white skin and light hair and there pure dominican explain

Are people from dominican republic black.?

Been there numerous times. Not sounding like the racist I am. But those people are black no matter what they want to call it. Sure you have a some lighter skinned ones but the majority of the ones I seen would straight up be black here in the USA. Sure they might class themselves as multiracial. but if it was the 1950's or earlier they wouldn't be getting served at many diners or drinking out of water fountains here.

Why do so many African-descended Dominican people deny that they are Black?

Black is a culture, and an identity - not just a skin color. Dominican citizens of African descent have their own culture and identity that’s completely distinct from that of black people in the USA.They are dominicanos. Don’t tell them who or what they are - they already know.

Why are African Americans different compared to other black people?

I actually disagree with your prof. on just about every point. I've done quite a bit of traveling myself and I would argue:
1. Blacks in the places that you've mention either ARE African themselves, they are far more recent immigrants - a good majority of the blacks that I met in the UK were either first or second generation and were taught these things by their parents or grandparents. This is not the case with the overwhelming majority of black Americans;
2. Most black Americans go to the Caribbean with more frequency not because of the images of Africa but because of the close proximity of the Islands and until very recently Americans didn't need passports to go to Jamaica or the Bahamas and the trip itself is far less expensive and time consuming than a schlep to Africa;
3. My assumption is, admittedly, that the Africans I saw in China and in Europe were probably from poorer backgrounds but I have never thought that about the Africans that I saw in the US. We're not in close proximity to Africa therefore the immigrants who are here even if they are illegal now had to be legal at some time. In order for that to be the case, you have to show hat you have a certain amount of money and education. Because of that, my assumption has always been that they were from the elite classes in their countries of origin.

I'm headed off to Ghana in a month where I'll live for a year so there are plenty of black Americans who find their way to Africa.

Why do people consider Mexicans/Guatemalans mestizos & Dominicans/Puerto Ricans Black?

Pretty much the media like L for Lonely said..... Latin Americans are very diverse Mestizo is no longer used in Latin America. Here in NYC most Puerto Ricans I have seen either look African or Arab. One of my Puerto Rican friend is a Mestizo and classifies himself with White since he looks Mediterranean and has a lot of European ancestry. Puerto Rico is 80% White (Mestizos included). Same thing with Brazil but they use the Mestico the Brazilian census has also added them with White people. For some reason Mexican census has put Mestizo to a mixed race which represent 60% but I they should somehow label Mestizos as White in Mexico. Take a look at the Mexican president Felipe Calderon or the Mexican model Ximena Navarrate they're Mestizos but they look European. I don't know much about Texas but here in New York Mexicans look 100% Native or East Asian and look no where near the Mexicans back in Cali who I believe are Mestizos. I even heard there is a term called Indio Mestizo with more Native ancestry, they are Euro Mestizos with more Euro ancestry which I believe I mentioned Felipe and Ximena, and Afro Mestizo with more African ancestry. I think every Latin American is a Mestizo weather you are Black, White, or Native. Forget about this whole half Spanish and half Native that's just a caste system invented by the Spanish. Every human being is a Mestizo even Black & White Americans which so many people are ignorant about. I think Latin America esp Mexico needs to organize it's census I think most Mexicans are more Native Mestizos you can tell by their features unless if they have come from Northern Mexico which is mostly White and usually if you are living in Texas, New Mexico, California, Nevada, or Colorado most Mexicans would look Mediterranean since most parts they usually come from the Northern areas. I would say 30-40 of Mexicans living in Southern America might come from South/Central

Do Dominican people speak Creole?

Yes Dominicans from the island country of Dominica (not the “Dominican Republic”) situated in the eastern Caribbean speak a French Creole called "Dominican Creole." It is in the same family as Antillean Creole, spoken in the French West Indies consisting of Guadeloupe and Martinique. Dominica is a small mountainous island that was ruled by the French for over 150 years, before transferring into the hands of the British under the Treaty of Paris (1783). Even then, the French still tried to reinvade, until in 1805 the British started to settle permanently. Saint Lucia is another country nearby with a similar situation, then finished under British rule. While Dominica is a republic, Saint Lucia is a parliamentary democracy under "constitutional monarchy" as is Canada. They have Prime Ministers and not Presidents. Queen Elizabeth II, is still their monarch. Both countries unlike their English-speaking neighbors, DO NOT have an English Creole. They were too late in its development and already had a Creole of their own, that being FR-CR. To this day, along side English as the official language, have still managed to maintain their French Creoles. Grenada is also another example similar to Dominica and Saint Lucia, but their French Creole is slowly dying. Unlike Dominica and Saint Lucia, they are isolated from the French West Indies and have English neighbors and are more affluent with their way of life; music, media etc.With this being said, Dominicans, from the Dominican Republic, from the borderlands may be able to speak some Haitian Creole, since Haiti and the Dominican Republic both share the island of Hispaniola. Some may even be of full Haitian descent, with or without documentation or partial Haitian descent. It is not uncommon for a native Dominican through and through living in the borderlands to know a bit of the language. Some have fluency. Some say, there is a new dialect on the border that mixes Spanish with it (Haitian Creole originally does have some Spanish words, but constituting a small percentage).Haitian Creole is also related to the other French Creoles of the area that includes Louisiana Creole, Antillean Creole (Martinique, Guadeloupe, Dominica, and Saint Lucia) and Guianese Creole (French Guiana) and is largely intelligible with each other. In some instances however, clarification will be needed. Speakers must account for the varieties of slangs, sayings and structural differences.

Why do Cubans and Dominicans think they are so much better then Black Americans?

I'm Dominican only because my parents are both from there! My father was a Dominican, because he has passed away! I truly consider myself an American, since I was born here!!!
I have never felt better than any race!!! I like you depending on how you make me feel when I'm around you!!!! I don't judge anyone by their race, culture, color, etc... since I know, that no one has control over that but God!!!
We are unable to choose our race so, it's only ignorance for anyone, of any race to feel better than anybody else!!!!
I have met Dominicans, Cubans, Puerto ricans, Mexicans, Salvadorians, Colombians etc... that are prejudice!!!! It's really sad, because it only shows their ignorance!!!! I know that Dominican Republic along with Puerto Rico are made up of Africans, Spaniards & Indians!!!! We are very well mixed!!! In Cuba, you are White or Black so, it's only ignorance to be prejudice!!! Here is a good example! My grandmother was a Black Dominican Woman, and my Grandfather was a White Dominican man so, it would only be stupidity for me to be prejudice!!!!

I really don't care, if people of any race thought they were better than me, because if that's what they need to make them feel good about themselves, it's really sad!!!! It's sad that people of any race need to feel better than someone else!!!!
I say, if you don't like me & feel better than me, that's your choice!!! Just don't bother with me by leaving me alone & staying away! No one is forced to like anyone!!!!! I wish people understood that it's fine if, they do like you, and so what if, they don't!!!!!!!!

I truly believe the one you really ought to care if he likes you or not, is God!!!! As for me, I love all the races God created!!! I Love Blacks, Whites, Latinos, Orientals, Indians, etc... from anywhere!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have found good, and evil, in all!!!!!

Y arent latinas (dominican,puerto rican women) classy?

Im puerto rican and Im not ghetto, I hate ghetto.
Have you been to Puerto Rico? maybe you never had before, but you should because your answer would definitely be cleared up. Classy puerto ricans live in puerto rico not in new york. All the people you have mentioned above specially jlo are americanized as to be new yoricans and usually most new yoricans are ghetto. Puerto Ricans living in the island can have a conversation with you and you wont even understand half of what they say unless your knowledgeable about proper grammar, poetry and art.

New Yoricans have a hard time adapting to Puerto Ricans living in the island all of their lives because the residents consider new yoricans ghetto and a shame to their culture. The same happens for other caribbean islands. You cant compare a New Yorican to a true born and raised Puerto Rican, there is a huge difference and the only way you would know it is if you actually go to puerto rico and see it with your own eyes. Some New Yoricans dont even speak spanish or landed in puerto rico, they just flash the flag in their underwear with pride, but speak spanish to them and they wont know anything, ask them about political and cultural status, they dont know anything, ask them about history and traditions in the island...nothing. That's ghetto, classy is knowing were you come from and flashing a flag is not the way, its showing you have knowledge of whom you are and were you come from...that's classy.

@t christian: I have colombian friends and they do speak mannered but not the ones that come from the coast of colombia, they can be rough. Most colombian girls are generalized as being classy sluts and hungry for money and all colombian man are in the mafia selling cocaine(of course thats not true) but its an example of how each and everyone of us latinos or not have a labeled stamp metaphorically speaking, on how we are known in this world in the eyes of others. puerto ricans and dominicans are known to be violent, ghetto and loud ( I believe the ones in america can be, not all but most) while in the islands we are not like that at all.
