Why does Car my engine stalls but power still on?

BUT MY LIGHTS, RADIO AND DASHBOARD WERE STILL ON!!! . So I turned everything off. Started it up again and it works. About 2miles down the road. Another red light . I brake, battery light comes on, engine stalls Everything still on. Radio, dash lights and head lights,. Turn everything off. Repeat.. turns on once more. Basically it happens again for 3rd time. Repeat, starts up. After 3rd time I said for get all remaining red lights and stop signs and hauled *** home to avoid stopping. Got home all good no shut offs as long as I didn't brake to complete stop. Whats going on?! HELP!!!!

What does it mean when you turn the ignition key to start your car and the engine stalls and turns off?

In the morning when I go to start my car, I turn the ignition key. Teh car starts up, hesitates, and at times turns off. When I turn the ignition key again, teh car starts up. Why can this happen?

Why does my car stall when i try to turn it on.That is the ignition stalls. I guess a "dry" start.?

In the morning when i turn the key, the car starts right away normally. During the day though as soon as i turn the ignition it stalls 'trying' to start and then turns on the car. What could be wrong with my car?

Why does my car buck and almost stall?

it is a saturn sl2. had the ignition coil replaced and it ran good for a week or two but it slowing gets worse. runs fine until it gets up to temp and then starts bucking when i give it gas too fast unless i floor it but it still doesn't get its full power then. it feels a little like a manual transmission in the wrong gear
thanks

Does a heavy keychain hurt your ignition?

In many vehicles it can. It's not an urban legend. They build the cylinders to withstand thousands of turns a year, but not the constant tug of a dozen key chains or several dozen keys.

And considering that most cylinder replacements run several hundred dollars, I personally think it crazy to find out for sure.

My car stalls and I don't know what is wrong with it?

I took my car to a local mechanic here in town cause it was stalling, when i got there he said i needed to fix the water pump, serpentine belt, ignition wires, temp sensor, spark plugs, and thermo gasket. He said it was going to cost me 680. I told him I didn't have that kind of money and to fix what he could to at least get the car running and I would be down every 2 weeks to fix something new. So he said he would fix the serpentine belt, the water pump so he called me that saturday and said that there was an incident and teh ignition wires got broken and that I had to pay him an extra 90 for the wires. well i didn't pay him that money cause i didnt' think it was right that i had to pay for something that he broke, after a few calls to the mechanic he decided to give me the car back after i told him i would be done next week to give him the money. Well ever since my car stalls all the time now. I have replaced the fuel filter, put dry gas and carb cleaner in it, replaced the thermostat and the temp sensor and still nothing. It will start i can drive it for a short time and then all of a sudden it stalls again. My mechanic friend who has been working on it has no clue. I am afraid that the mechanic who originally worked on it did something weather he ruined something under the hood or put sugar in the tank. Im a single mom of 2 kids and need my car any suggestions.

How can you fix a car that stalls while idling?

Hold the gas pedal down a little bit while you're sitting still.Oh you wanted the non-redneck solution? Take it to a mechanic and find out why the idle is off. There can be multiple reasons. Electrical parts wearing out is common - bad plugs, bad ignition coils, bad battery, bad alternator, bad plugs, bad plug wires, etc. ad nauseum. Fuel system problems are also a common cause of this - bad fuel pump, clogged lines, clogged filter, bad gas (fresh gas and a gas treatment will fix that). If this happens after the car warms up then it could be a couple of different things that are also fairly common - overheating due to cooling system problems, or malfunctions in the cold start warm-up system (my RX-7 had that issue for a while). There's a million things that can cause the engine to fail to maintain idle. It can be very hard to troubleshoot this problem sometimes. There's nowhere near enough info in your question to even take a guess. You're gonna need to seek professional help.

My 99 Honda Accord has a recall on an ignition switch. Is it too late to get this fixed free?

When a manufacturer issues a recall on a vehicle there is no limit on the time or mileage on the vehicle after which the recall is no longer provided for. Any Honda dealer can do the recall free of charge.

It will take them less than one minute to check for the applicability of the recall to your vehicle by using the Honda on-line dealer network.

The usual symptom of a bad ignition switch is that the car cuts out when driving on the freeway then starts right back up after you coast to the side and go to restart it. Less common is that the car will shut off after you start it unless you hold the key in the 'start' position.

the failure rate on the igntion switch is high. If you had gone to a Honda dealer first you may have saved a ton of money on 'guesses' as this is an extremely well know problem with an easily identifiable solution.

hope that answers your question
