Why Does My Puppy Lift His Leg In Front Of Other Puppy

Why do dogs always lift up and bend one of their front legs when sniffing a spot on the ground?

my shih-tzu does it but my peke doesn't. the shih-tzu will do it if she smells the spot the the peke or another dog has urinated, than she marks it with her own scent. she's a hoot to take to the dog park. she runs around pointing and peeing at all the spots. takes up her entire time there.

Why does my puppy sleep with his one leg in the air?

The same happens with my pup too at times. As far as I know, they are either half awake sensing that someone close to them is nearby and would oblige to rub their belly. But at other times, they may be dreaming of someone rubbing their belly. But this also  is only in case of hind legs. If he sleeps with his front paws in the air, then you may consult your vet once and clear out things, just in case. Although I am sure there is nothing to worry about unless the pup has hurt himself recently.

My puppy doesnt lift his leg to pee?

1) you don't teach him to lift his leg.... with a little more age he should start lifting it on his own

2) you can use a paper towel dipped in 1 part vinegar to 10 parts water to wipe down his legs when he pees on them.... probably best to blot the damp pee off with dry paper towel first & then neutralize urine with damp one

3) GSDs are prone to hip problems... if you don't see him lifting leg by 9 months or if you see he has problems when lifting... then you need to get a vet to do hip Xrays

I had a foster GSD puppy one time who had major hip dysplasia...
even after months of physical therapy (sometimes can help avoid surgery, if started early enough) he still had to have both hips surgically corrected... 2 plates & 6 screws (1 plate with 3 screws each side) costs a few thousand dollars... so get prepared for this possibility

in Micky's case... after surgery & post surgery PT... he went on to forever home & is currently @ 11 years old.. he has lived a healthy life with no hip problems

what were the hip scores for his parents? do you know?

Why does my dog keep lifting his leg up?

He doesn't have a bladder problem and he doesn't have to go to the bathroom. There's barely any grass outside here, so he's trained to go on the newspaper, which he has access to at all times.

When I scratch his belly, he doesn't get that dreamy look on his face he usually does when I pet him elsewhere,so I'm pretty sure he doesn't like it.

My puppies left front leg shakes is this a sign of another problem?

I have a Miniature Schnauzer. Since he was about 9-10 weeks old his left front leg would shake/tremor/look like a Parkinson's type of thing but just occasionally and only while sitting. The vet never did give me a reason or a diagnosis but now he is 7 years old and perfectly healthy. He has never had any problems running or jumping. His front left leg still does that on occasion and it even happened today. I would say it happens maybe once or twice a month that I notice and when it does happen I just call him over or distract him and it pretty much stops immediately then. I have tried to figure out what could be causing it but I can't seem to find a common denominator so to speak when it happens. I wouldn't worry about it :)

Why does my dog lift his leg when i hug him?

Lol well my friends dog does that... It's somewhat showing submissive behavior that or you've beaten him severely and every time you go near him to hug him he feels he has to show his underside and his belly as if to say "please don't hurt me".. Please lets hope you haven't beaten him...Because that's just wrong..So..Just shrug it off for now and just hug him/her more gently and slowly.

Why does this happen to puppies (back legs lift when they eat)?

Puppies actually can and do flip over when eating, drinking, standing and walking..We have an 8 week old minature chihuahua that does this..Personally we think it is sad and not the least bit funny ,once you realize something could be wrong. We noticed our little Peety flipping over head first ,doing what looked like handstands and sometimes his hind feet lift off just a bit..We assumed he was a bit under weight. He was kind skinny and he didnt have much of an appetite and usually didnt want to eat for the first few days we had him,but after week of feeding him a little at a time, which was all he would do..Eat maybe one spoon full and no more,we sometimes had to practicaly forced him to eat by feeding him puppy formula and pedialite with an eye dropper, since he also would bottle feed.He is doing much better now,but we're still concerned and still give puppy formula once a day..When got Peety he also had a loose runny dark stool most times and he would go several times a day and barely ate a spoon full of anything..We feared possibly parvo and or worms, but now his stool is a normal color and texture..We dewormed him,no sign of worms in his stool ever,he goes a normal amount if times now and eats a normal amount everyday..We got him all his shots and his appetite has improved, his rear end is more stable,he doesnt wobble when he walks and seems to be a healthy happy puppy, but we still care for him closely and hope he becomes perfectly balanced out soon.He is much better and such an awesome little guy...We love him dearly..Please keep Peety in your hearts and pray that he will grow up to be a balanced happy dog.If you ever encounter a puppy flipping or doing hand stands, rear feet lifting up,etc, please don"t assume its normal or funny, there is most likely something wrong..Hopefully your puppy is fine, but our Peety was sick. He recieved constant ,round the clock care to get him where he is today and we hope and pray he will continues to well..Thanks for reading and we hope and pray your pup is fine

How can i cure bowed leg of my puppy dog ( front legs)?

Please consult the veterinarian. Bowing of the legs has always been an occasional issue with fast-growing, large breed or heavy breed dogs.Breeders tend to think that bowing of the legs is genetic, but except for the genetics built in these breeds to grow fast, genetics is seldom the cause. Fast-growing puppies, especially the heavy breeds, have considerable pressure on the long bones of the legs while they are growing. The scaffolding of protein and cartilage is laid down at the growth plate and that frame work is soft and will bow to pressure. Behind that frame, calcium and phosphorus with other minor minerals use vitamins to make solid bone. Vitamin D gets calcium and phosphorus from the gut into the body, and Vitamin C gets calcium and phosphorus into the bone. If the diet is short on any of these needed vitamins, minor minerals, calcium or phosphorus, the puppy is slow to calcify while the frame is still being built; soft bones are the result. Most issues start within 5-12 weeks of age as this is when babies are going through their fast growth stage. Often the breeder reports that the legs look okay in the morning, but by the end of the day, they can see bowing on the front legs. The pressure of romping and jumping all day causes the long bone to bow. With early detection, you can correct this issue with the right vitamin/mineral supplement. If you see bowing of front legs, treat quickly or you will end up with permanently crooked legs!

Why won't my male dog lift his leg to pee?

Contrary to popular belief, lifting the leg to pee is NOT connected to the dog's gender. The raised leg is a sign of dominance, and a way to make the scent of the pee stronger to let other dogs know there is a dominant dog in the neighborhood. Most puppies don't start lifting their legs till they are almost a year old, and depending on the dog's personality, some might insist on squatting.

Why do dogs lift their legs while urinating if puppies do not?

Long long time ago (15782 years ago), Dogs used to pee while standing on all 4. Once a group of dogs were taking a piss next to great wall of Indus (This all doesnt exist today), at this moment the wall got collapsed killing 17 doggos. Only 2 survived. They were very old. They were mourning for 26 days and on 27th day, they started thinking about the accident. They met a wise man called Siddharth (who became buddha after this discussion), the wise man said it happened because they were careless, they didnt give attention to their surrounding. Basically they didnt notice the falling wall. So they decided to watch out their surrounding while liberating themselves. They started to keep one leg on the wall while peeing. (Remember at that time Indus valley was full of walls). Another point to be noted is these 2 doggos were the eldest in that time also the wisest. So every other dog started imitating them. (Another important point is female doggos were staying indoors as it was a taboo for them to come out)Eventually it became a tradition. Eventhough there isnt any wall, the dogs still lift their leg.Puppies arent matured so they dont know this etiquette or tradition
