Why Is My Kitchen And Living Room In The Basement

Why do I have fruit flies in my living room, basement, and kitchen?

Fruit flies are such hard pests to get rid of. They multiply overnight like crazy. It has nothing to do with how clean you keep a house. Any fruit sitting around or other foods left on counters bring these pests and they never leave. First, refrigerate all your fruits, breads etc. Keep wastebaskets free of food-maybe you can arrange to compost it in the backyard or freeze scraps and leftovers until garbage day. I find the best way to get rid of them is to put some red wine in a shallow bowl-(it must be red). Cover tightly with plastic wrap and secure with a rubberband. Poke holes in the tight drumlike plastic wrap with a toothpick-several holes. The fruitflies will be attracted, go in, but can't escape. They will drown.Set several bowls about in the areas you see them the most. Stay diligent. Hope it helps.

Can a basement kitchen move upstairs?

Yes, easily, depending on your finishes and how much you can DIY. To have the plumbing and electrical moved upstairs directly above where it is now should be fairly cheap. I don't know about the rest of the updating you want to do, as it would be hard to fix up much of the house to local standards due to its small size, which means it may take a long time to sell the home and recoup both your closing costs and repairs. The most important thing to do would be to get a thorough home inspection to ensure that there are no expensive repairs necessary to keep the house in working order even before you consider changing the layout. If you're intending on moving the kitchen upstairs, try to use that good basement space for more living area if that's common in Essex. The FHA rehab loan is a good program and I think you should go for it if it's what you need to complete your fiance's residency, but it should be in his name before marriage to avoid legal and tax problems.

Why is it illegal to live in a basement?

It’s not specifically that it’s a basement, it’s the building codes, and it’s actually not illegal if the unit is old enough to be grandfathered under older building codes. That said, you’re probably going to have a hard time getting a Certificate Of Occupancy in most states, unless it meets current code. These tend not to transfer over to new owners. Most building codes these days require smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. They also tend to require two exits, and they tend to require a range hood that vents to the outside, if the cooktop or oven is a gas appliance. An easy test is if there is a separate mailbox; most jurisdictions require that.In some jurisdiction, such as a multiunit rental in San Francisco, you are required to have a hardwired fire alarm system that hooks up to the fire department, and a sprinkler system. You also can’t have a single exit to a hallway, instead of to the outside in a basement rental in San Francisco. You see these most commonly with Efficiency apartments, also called bachelor apartments; they are always small and feature a combined living and sleeping space. There is not a wall separating the kitchen from the living area, which is required by many fire codes. Usually, it’s a “kitchenette” in part of the living room. You also probably won’t have a washing machine unless it’s in a common area with the owner. If you’re not sure, ask for proof in the form of a copy of the Certificate Of Occupancy.

Is it bad to live in your parents basement?

It's pretty much like my own apartment, I have my own kitchen, living room, bathroom, and 2 bedrooms (one converted to a mini gym when I was in college though). Plus I can use their hot tub and basketball hoop, and the neighborhood pool and tennis courts whenever I went. They only charge me $100 a month. I could easily live on my own (I make around 60k a year), but I kind of don't want to leave. I mean, since I'm an only child, the whole house will be mine when they die anyway.

Can I keep an indoor cat in a basement apartment?

Hi I can understand that you love cats and would like to have one. But I feel it is cruel to keep a cat in such a small space under those conditions. Wait till you have a house of your own. Otherwise it is like keeping the cat in prison. We should never deny an animal the right to fresh air, sunlight, and to being out in nature. Cats that are kept inside only get depressed. You should also consider the costs of having a cat, like vet bills, appropriate healthy diet, etc. Cats can live for up to 20 years, that is a long time to be committed to caring for it.

Also I recommend that if later in life you deside to have a cat, buy a book on good cat care, there are many things you need to know in order to care for an animal properly.

To satisfy your need for a cat, you could volunteer to help out in a cat rescue shelter, that way you would get to know a lot about cats, and also you will be happy to help them and interact with them.
