Who are some current American centrist politicians?
Centrist, like Right and Left are labels used subjectively to define ideas and people to my advantage.Over 95% of people are hetero sexual. That makes gays extremists. But it is not to my advantage to say that. Over 95% of people believe in one or more Gods. That makes atheists extremists. But it is not to my advantage to say that.Context is everything. Pick the context that is to my advantage. When talking about US politicians, it would be reasonable that the context would be the US. But if it is to my advantage, let’s include the context of western Euorpe, but not Eastern Europe, and not Muslim countries.If the context is US politicians in the US then Paul Ryan, the arch enemy of the Freedom caucus and most Conservatives, is a Centrist. On the Democrat side Joe Manchin could obviously be labeled a centrist. He could also be labeled an opportunist.Many politicians labeled centrist are really opportunists and take positions to get money or votes, and not because they really believe in anything but their own future. The same is true of many in the wings. They mouth the positions of their wing. But they are in that wing solely out of self-preservation.Dick Durbin is a good example. When he represented a downstate conservative district, he was more or less conservative. He rose to US Senate precisely because he had the conservative aura. Then, when secured as US Senator, he does what the far left wants him to do. He does not believe in either left or right. He only believes in his own career.
