Will Sab Consider Me For Their Si

What Summer Intensives Should I Audition For?

Those are all good programs but I would consider taking the ABT program off your list as it tends to be more of just to be a money maker for the school. None of their summer programs are worth much with the exception of the NYC location and only if you are in the top levels where they place their own full time JKO students.
Ideally you are going to want to pick a school you can train full time in and getting a scholarship for summer puts you in the category of someone they may consider for their full time training. That would also mean scholarship for their full time program too if they are interested in you. At your age if you are serious about a ballet career it is time to be in full time training. The Harid offers full scholarship for the full time program to all who attend. You just pay room and board but nothing for your training. That is an option too. The Harid Conservatory is an excellent program that has produced many professional ballet dancers. Only full time training and not just taking good SI programs will give you a shot at your goal. It is time you have a serious discussion with your family if you want a shot at a ballet career. Truth is you should be doing this now. Audition for a full time program in the fall and not just wait for the SI. Auditions are generally held right after Labor Day.

Audition for all of them and see what you are offered. I would put SAB at the top of your list but perhaps I am somewhat prejudice toward them due to my connections with NYCB.

I also suggest you sign up at the "Ballet Talk for Dancers" website to learn more about the different programs and to connect with better feedback than what you will get here. Most here (with very few exceptions) are recreational dancers who will not have the right information or any real knowledge about professional ballet careers. BTFD also is monitored by professional dancers so unlike this site, wrong information is removed. One small note on BTFD ....You cannot use your yahoo email address to sign up. They won't take those due to all the spam. Use your service provider email. BTFD is a free and safe site but you need to join it to access most of the features.

SAB Summer Intensive Auditions?

You are going to hate my answer, but it is truthful.
Because of being so underweight, it is not likely that SAB would take you even without having an eating disorder. Your body that height and weight just can't have enough muscle.
5' 6" and 80 pounds is not a Balanchine body.

SAB is one of the most elite summer intensives programs. ABT is one of the easiest to get into for Alabama and Texas. If you did not get chosen for ABT NYC or at least ABT CA or even ABT Detroit, it is not likely that you would get into SAB.

* EDIT: Your "choice" ranking for the SI location is just a request. From your other question you said you picked Texas second after the new NC location which you didn't get into. NC, which is their newest program, would be one of the more elite locations like NYC.
NC is now the new home of the JKO boarding school, which is the feeder school for ABT.

***URGENT EDIT: Your BMI is 12.9. A BMI of 15 is considered dangerously low!
People with a low BMI are essentially starving to death by not taking in enough calories to maintain a healthy body weight. Some of the health problems associated with this condition include increased risk of osteoporosis, anemia from insufficient iron, a weakened immune system and even organ failure and death. Short-term problems associated with low BMI can include impaired judgment, lethargy and mood swings. Please see a Doctor ASAP!!!

Could I get into the sab summer intensive?

I have my Audition for sab in a week and I was wondering what the chances are for me getting in.

I am 13 and have been told I have the body by every teacher I have had. I am "4 10" and 67 pounds. I used to be a gymnast so I am also very muscular. Based on this do I have the right body for sab?

I also know sab is balanchine and is known for fast combinations which I have a hard time with because I am trained in Russian technique. Will this lessen my chances by a lot? Could I still get in if I had the body?

What are the auditions like? Will they give fast combinations?

Any help will be appreciated
-thanks!

Sab audition results?

I just finished my sab audition for their summer intensive in the 16-18 y/o age group, and since I pre-registered, my results are due to come in around a week. I actually feel pretty good about how I did (considering some random circumstances that I thought were going to hold me back a ton), but I did make some mistakes in some of the combinations. After my mistakes, I would recover and try to smile through it, and I made up for it by correcting myself when I did the left side. do the teachers keep that in mind when they think of your results? How detrimental are mistakes to your audition results, and how do they affect them?

Also, are audition classes for older age groups typically entirely on pointe? I ve been to several other ones (like sfb, mcb, etc.) and they were more half and half. This was the first where it was only pointe.

Kirov Academy of Ballet DC intensive?

It sounds to me that you were high on the waitlist. It is highly likely others who were accepted might choose another SI. While this is an excellent program there are other programs that are somewhat more elite. The most elite schools like SAB rarely have to use their waitlist. Dancers that want only Vagonova will opt for the Kirov as their first choice but that isn’t every dancers cup of tea in regards to training.
My best guess is you will have a very good shot of getting into this program based on that email. This is just my assessment and certainly there is no guarantee that you will get in. Nobody can give you a definitive answer on that.

Is it possible for me to get accepted to SAB?

I was just wondering this question because of the following. I am a very promising student, and professionals have told me that I am very talented. But you see, when I auditioned for the School of American Ballet last winter, I was rejected about a week later. I didn't understand why, until we began looking online and realizing why they turned me down. It must have been the body type. I mean, I do have a dancers body, talent, and everything that I think I need to become a great dancer and people have told me. But if this is true, then why didn't I get accepted into SAB ?

I am not a stick figure, I will tell you that. I do have a little meat on my bones and a little bit of physique but not very much . I am only fourteen years old, too.

I just want to know .. what would be the possibilities of me getting into the School of American Ballet if I was rejected last year? It has always been my dream to get into a school as prestigious as the School. I prayed so hard that I would get in, for a good half hour anyway, but I didn't and I'm really not that sure why other than the body type.

I am definitely going to audition for the School again this year because it is my dream to get into the School of American Ballet and it has been my dream for a long while now. Getting rejected from this school just kind of crushed my spirits a lot. I really, really, really want to get in!

Does anyone think they can help me ? Any nutrition suggestions ? Oh, and are there any SAB students here that would like to share a few technique tips ? I will do anything to get into this school , but i need a little bit of advice. ANYTHING? thanks (:

A few SI audition questions..?

1) You are right. Stick with the black*. Cami is best, but as long as it is simple it doesn't matter all that much. The shorter sleeve will show your arms more and if they both look equally good, I would go with the shorter sleeve.
2) SAB is a stickler for no bangs except for only one dancer in the school who used to attend. That was Madeleine Martin ( Californication and Broadway child actress.) Unless you have a booming career as an actress, I suggest you plaster them down with hair Goop. If you get it good and "crunchy" your bangs aren't going anywhere.
3) In previous years, ABT NY usually took girls your age if they are looking for dancers for ABT 2. So, even if you did get much better than last year, they may or may not take you if they are not interested in you for the company. There is a new intensive location this year and that is ABT N.C. They are using this as an exclusive affiliate for the full time JKO school but with boarding during the year and this is their first SI there. This may change everything regarding how they approach who gets into ABT NYC so that may up your chances in ABT NYC.

Tips: No jewelry, nail polish or extra dance cloths. Dance as cleanly as possible. Be aware of your spacing at the barre, center and across the floor. Nothing looks less professional than a dancer who cannot space themselves. Remember the minute you step into the dance studio, you are auditioning. Don't chat and watch your posture. Thank the ballet master/mistress and accompanist at the end of the audition. A simple smile and thank you will do. Don't talk them up. You will look professional if you do that. Park your nerves at the door and have fun and show your "Joy of Dance" during the audition. Enjoy the experience of auditioning. You may or may not be what they are looking for and there is nothing you can do about that, so enjoy the process. Nobody gets every audition they go to.

* If you really have an excellent ballet body and are very thin, you can wear a white leotard. It shows everything and that can work for you if you are in your best shape possible.
Good luck!
