How do I fix a black screen on Windows 7?

Well, thanks for the A2A. To be honest, we can fix black screen in Windows 7 by following ways.Way 1: Boot your PC with the Last Known Good Configuration (advanced) optionStep 1: Press and hold down the F8 button as you boot up your PC and before the Windows logo is displayed. This will bring you to the Advanced Boot Options, wherein a list of options on booting up your Windows 7 system is provided. Then select the Last Known Good Configuration option to restore your computer to the previous good state.Way 2: Reinstall graphics card driverStep 1: Press and hold down the following keys: Ctrl + Alt + Delete, to access the Task Manager.Step 2: Go to the Processes tab and find explorer.exe. Right-click on the selected process and select End Process.Step 3: Create a New Task by clicking File and New Task (Run).Step 4: Type in explorer.exe in the text box and click OK. The Windows taskbar should now be visible.Step 5: Click the Start button and search for Device Manager by typing device manager in the Windows search box.Step 6: Locate the display adapter option and double-click it. This should show your device. Right-click on the device name and then click Update Driver Software. That’s it.Related post: How to Fix the Blank or Black Screen on a ComputerNo thanks:)

Blue screen of death on Windows 7?

This sounds like hardware to me. Go with the above option, and insert your windows CD. Though the repair option may not yield any results... perhaps a complete re install of the operating system... which means formatting your hard drives... so try to get any needed data off the lap top first... that is before it crashes =/

If this does not resolve your problem and it just comes back ... I suspect faulty ram... which can be replaced on a lap top easily.

Windows 7 screen is blank?

Sounds like you may have got the wrong update. Try turning off. Remove the battery and charger/adapter, press and hold the power button for 5 seconds to discharge any residual current.
Replace the battery and charger/adapter and turn back on.

If that doesn't work...

On start up (before Windows loads) keep tapping either F5, F8 or F10 (be aware that some manufacturers use F8/F10 for system recovery) then use arrow keys to highlight 'Last known good configuration' hit Enter/Return, click on a user account, enter the password (if you don't know it, there probably isn't one so leave it blank) and hit return/enter.

If that doesn't work, try again, but this time highlight 'Safe Mode' hit Enter/Return, click on a user account, enter the password (if you don't know it, there probably isn't one so leave it blank) and hit enter/return.

A window will pop up asking if you want to carry on with safe mode or use system restore. Choose system restore, pick a date and time before the problem occurred and confirm.

**Be aware that restoring in Safe Mode cannot be undone!**

Why is my windows 7 not booting past the start up screen?

Very difficult to tell you what is wrong without access to the machine. Could be a failing hard drive, system files corrupted by virus or spyware, or several other things. There are good options to recover your data, and given that you at least get to the login screen, it's likely the data can be recovered.1. A Live CD or USB of some sort. Linux distros, Hiren's Boot, etc.. There are several. This requires you be at least somewhat technically savvy, or at least be a good Googler and able to read and follow directions to create a bootable USB and use it to recover your data.2. Remove the hard drive, and use something like Amazon.com: Sabrent USB 2.0 TO SATA/IDE 2.5/3.5/-INCH Hard Drive Converter to plug it into another computer, and recover your data that way.  This is actually simpler in many ways than the first option, but again, if you are not tech savvy, this is not for you.3. Call a professional.

I got the blue screen of death on Windows 7 with 'stop error 0x000000ED (Unmountable boot volume)'. Tried repair option, but just a blank screen comes up. What are the options available for me to get my laptop running again?

Similar to what other answers have suggested: in Windows 7, this error can be caused if you installed the OS with your hard drive controller in IDE mode, but subsequently switched it to IDE mode in the BIOS. Basically, what you need to do is press the power button, then go into BIOS (usually F2, F12, Del, or Esc key), then check if your drive is in AHCI mode by going to storage options with the keyboard and/or mouse (depending on your system, this process will be different). Then switch it back to IDE mode.Otherwise, your hard drive, SSD, controller, or cable is likely to be malfunctioning. Consider visiting a computer repair shop to get your data and transfer it to a new drive.

How can I fix Windows 7 black screen with cursor issue?

System restore is the first thing to try. Provided that system restore is enabled but you see no restore points, try to fix it first.Open cmd as administrator and execute the following command. sfc/scannowAllow the System File Checker to complete the scan and repair process. You may receive a message that Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. If this occurs, type findstr /c:”[SR]” %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >sfcdetails.txt at the command prompt and press Enter.Navigate to your windows/system32 folder and open sfcdetails.txt in Notepad. Click Edit and Find, then type ‘cannot repair member' file to see the problems that the System File Checker was unable to repair. You can also fix this problem by turning System Restore off, then turning it back on again. If these didn't work,*Open msconfg and check for any entries in the start up programs list and remove all unnecessary ones.*Boot into safe mode and revert all changes that were recently made - settings, newly installed programs etc.*Boot from a Windows 7 CD /USB and repair the installed OS.Thanks for asking. Hope it helps.

My computer won't start,no boot,blank screen?

it sounds like a ram issue
you said you took out some ram? and then it worked try finding some more ram and see if that fixes it or if you have already tried this .... well go into your bios your computer SHOULD tell you what key if not try ALL the F# keys if it doesn't tell you like just press all of them haha well not too fast tho but not too slow either
anyway once your there check your boot order and check to make sure that the CD is the first drive to boot now save it and see if the cd will boot IF NOT then you have a bad CMOS battery yess there is a low spec battery that has JUST enough power to save all your bios settings and in some older computers this battery may have reach the end so well don't just grab another one haha i don't think that would work btw its a silver round battery you may be able to call Acer and see if they can replace it for you
but if the Cd boots fine then you have a much stranger problem just try all this and see if it works or if the cmos battery is bad

I have had a pirated windows 7 that got the black screen of death, can i fix by buying widows 8?

(Please read!) Last summer i custom built a pc and because of lack of budget decided to use a pirated version of windows 7 (regrettably). Just a couple days ago it got a blue screen and now whenever i turn it on it just boots to a black screen with a moveable cursor. Now that i do have the money i am going to buy an actual copy of windows 8 and i was wondering how i should go about installing it and getting rid of the pirated windows 7 and the damage it may have caused without losing my files. Another important thing to note is i have my windows and video card drivers on a separate 28 gig ssd while my main files are on a 1 tb hdd. could i simply unplug the hdd, wipe the ssd and install windows 8 onto the clean ssd and then plug my hdd back in? Any advice on the situation would be extremely helpful.

Regarding Windows 7 Ultimate Black Screen of Death?

I want to ask about how to fix the black screen... The problem showed up after downloading a torrent with a virus on the internet. When starting my computer just before the login screen it just hangs up showing a black screen and the mouse pointer at the center. Even the mouse pointer cant be moved. It just stays at the center of the screen and it shows clearly that it freezes. I thought may be it's a hardware problem though when I boot my computer to safe mode I don't have any problem with it. Please help.. I need serious answers. I still need to finish a project which have a deadline for next week.. :(

My laptop (Samsung Windows 7) screen went black when I tried to restart Windows because some programs took very long to load. Now, I can't turn it off but I see the cursor. What can I do?

Boot into Safe Mode with Networking by pressing . Once you’ve booted into safe mode, you should be able to do a proper, controlled shutdown and start back up into Windows. If that doesn’t work you may have to go down the list presented by , and select Last Known Good Configuration; and I can assure you that choosing LKGC will NOT result in data loss.So here’s something I wrote on another question: … here’s the thing: had you done regular, frequent backups, the loss of a drive would be far less traumatic than it is if you don’t have a backup. This is part of why I keep hammering away at people to do proper backups. Putting all your eggs in one basket is a really bad idea, as is my overuse of English language idioms. (Does that make me an Idiom Idiot? I don’t know, and I don’t need a response, since I suspect the answer would be “yes”).Backups are so key and so easy to do, given how fast external hard drives are, (especially if they use either eSATA (uncommon), Firewire (more common, but still rare outside of the Apple/Macintosh universe), or USB 3.0 (5Gb/second), or USB 3.1 (10Gb/second)), that I can’t for the life of me understand why people don’t do it.I can think of only two reasons: (a) lack of money, which is understandable, and (b) laziness, which I can’t understand. With a backup, having your operating system trashed would not cause you huge paroxysms of anxiety and suicidal/homicidal/computer-cidal thoughts.Just a thought; backups save not just data, but huge amounts of time and money spent on data-recovery, or worse yet, lost data due to … no backups.Rant-mode = off.******************Second best answer so far is given by Jeremy Kupfuwa; you should create a bootable thumb-drive and install/upgrade to Windows 10, but then you’d lose data files. And a backup would make the second part of that sentence unnecessary. Thanks for the A2A
