A question for women of color?
I m a white woman. I know I ve learned a lot of racism from my upbringing, but I try to educate myself and unlearn as much of that racism any time an issue comes up in media or my life. That s why I m asking for help on this; I want to make sure I m not making assumptions on what is or isn t okay. I plan to change my last name as a way to empower myself after a lifetime of abuse and as a symbol of my faith. I decided months ago to use the last name Truth because it fit everything I was trying to represent. I recently learned that Sojourner Truth also changed her name for similar reasons. Now I want to know if it would be ok for me to also change my name in her honor. We have a lot in common, but I don t want to dismiss that her race and time in history gave her an entirely different set of obstacles than what I ve faced. Since I feel connected to much of her story, I want to honor her, but I don t want to appropriate her life. I can t ask her, so I am asking any women of color here; would it be ok for me to tell people about her as part of the explanation for why I m changing my name? How would you feel about it if you were her? Would you be glad that a white girl born generations after your life was inspired by you and tried to pass on your legacy or would you be upset that she thought she was the right person to do it? Please be honest with me. I m changing my name either way, but I ll leave Sojourner out of it if you think it s insensitive of me to involve her in this.
Can women be color blind?
Yes they can, and red/green are the most common colors. Colorblindness is a sex-linked trait - the X chromosome is responsible. Since it only takes one 'good' X chromosome to prevent color blindness, women can be carriers without being colorblind themselves. However, if a man has a defective X chromosome, he will be colorblind, since he doesn't have a second X chromosome to back it up and take over.
If I use Pantene prov women of color what type of relaxer should I use with it?
Use something mild to maintain healthy hair or you chould switch to motions products. All of their products work well. Especially the cpr hair treatment and deep conditioners. how is the prov working for you? Did it repair any damage can you tell the difference in using it? :-) Thanks and Good Luck.
Is Gal Gadot a woman of color?
Wether or not the new Wonder Woman is a woman of color has sparked controversy. Now, this is not a place to talk about the whole Israel and IDF controversy let s leave that for another day. What I am asking is wether or not she is a Woman Of Color because she s Jewish. Let s remember the amount of racism and oppression Jews have faced. Let s remember the ******* Holocaust. Jews were killed because they were an "Inferior race." and now people just erase that and whitewash them. I don t know what to think.
Girls or Women: What color speedo should I wear?
Im going to a store in the mall today and its called Speedo World It has every color speedo you could imagine. I need some opinions on which colors I should get? Im getting about 2-3 pairs. Thanks!!
Submissiveness & women of color?
Throughout many different cultural histories, women of color (Asian, Hispanic, Middle Eastern) have taken backseats in regards to feminism. Much of their previous history (& some current) has been made to serve their husbands & fathers in a machismo sort of environment. A somewhat "submissive" history, if you will. The concept of the man is the provider & ultimate authority is one of the key elements within these cultures. In regards to black women, since many black women have had the history of slavery behind them & the stigma still remains? How often do you encounter submissiveness within a black woman? Is it a rare occasion? Do you think many black women frown upon submission? I'm sincerely curious because I characterise myself as a "submissive" black woman. Please don't sugarcoat your answers either, I will not be offended. Thanks for the replies.
