16 With Lower Back Pain Help

Hey, I'm 16 and I have lower back pain?

Hey everyone. I'm 16 years old and lately I've been getting some pain in my lower back. It all started when we started gym in school. It used to only hurt for an hour, then it would go away. But, I really did something to my back last wednesday. It's been hurting ever since then, and got worse, then better, then worse, then better. The pain keeps going from my right, to my left side. Icy Hot patches don't work that well. I try Advil, but it's a little unsuccessful. But when I put ice on it, it made it feel a whole lot better. Can someone help?

Lower back pains at age 18?

As you've discovered pain is not relegated to 'old people' of 50-60-70+. It happens on a chronic basis to those in their teends, 20's and 30's as well.

It is hard to 'guess' your reasoning for pain without a workup, but it is probably due to weak muscles, and as the other poster mentioned, postural problems.

Yes, if you have some pain issues, your mattress can definitely exacerbate them. Often a harder sleeping surface with less 'give' helps the most in the long run.

I would recommend seeing a physical therapist and getting checked for any underlying scoliosis, muscle weakness, kyphosis, forward head posture, rounded shoulders, lordosis and general common problems of the spine. Then they can help you with properly strengthening your back and core.. so the muscles can support your spine and the pain resolves, as well as stretching.

As our muscles are under utilized, they become weaker and tighten up. They cause our alignment and posture to be improper, and over time it causes pain. The pain is in the muscles, soft tissues, even the discs and surrounding nerves. It is cumulative. Though with a bit of work it can ALL go away, and stay gone.

The key is proper therapy and being consistent.

Once you resolve the pain, don't stop the exercises.. maintain them to prevent it from occurring in the future. You are likely prone to this type of pain problem -- so you should probably keep a very active and pro-active lifestyle for your health/body and muscle strength/flexibility so in the long term you don't live a life of chronic aches and pains.

The sooner you address it, the easier it will be to resolve.

Good luck,

Sudden lower back pain in 16 year old girl. Please help!?

Rachel, I would like for you to try these two movements to see if they stop your problem. Sit in a straight chair and keep the feet and hips planted. Raise the left arm up as high as it can go overhead and note the endpoint. Return the arm to the side and now do the same with the right arm. You will note that one arm went up higher than the other so start with the arm that went up the highest. Raise that arm up as high and hard as you can for 30 seconds and then rest it for 15 seconds. Repeat this twice more and then do the same movement with the opposite arm 3 times. Next, turn the body to the left as far as it can go and note the endpoint of rotation and then do the same to the right. You will find that one direction moves further so start in that direction first. Twist the body in that direction as hard and far as you can for 30 seconds and then rest it for 15 seconds. Repeat this twice more and then do the same in the opposite direction 3 times. Get up and move around. There should be more mobility and less pain. Do this at least twice a day. Also watch your posture. Make sure that your posture is as good as it can be. The better your posture the less likely you are to have back problems.

Stomach pains and lower back pain at 16 weeks pregnant?!?

Im not sure if I should make it a big deal cause others say its normal but some say if back pain means its a miscarriage. Im 16 almost 17 weeks pregnant, my whole body has felt worn out and kind of weak all day but I think that's just cause im getting sick. (Boyfriend was recently sick & think I got it) But ive had, feels like period cramps, in my lower stomach and around my ribs. Didn't hurt till a couple hours ago. I have been complaining how my back hurt all day. Felt fine untill entering the second trimester. There has been no bleeding or other signs of misscariage, just abdominal pain and ache in lower back. Just really nervous and worried! First pregnancy by the way.

I'm only 16 and have really bad back pains?

i turned 16 in march and ever since i was about 14 i have had really bad back pains but this is really affecting my social life because im finding it hard to concentrate in my exams at the moment, also i have terrible problems with my legs and knees which are always aching, i cant walk for more than about 20 minutes maximum. do you think this could be due to pelvic misalignment? my hips are also odd, any advice would be helpful :)

What are the best ways to combat lower back pain at 16 weeks pregnant?

As you progress in the pregnancy and the baby is growing in size, your pelvis will be altering its shape. Both the outlet and inlet are remodelling (through relaxation of the pelvic ligaments) to allow the baby out during birth. An unfortunate side effect of this is pain can be experienced at the back of the pelvis where it meets the spine, known as the sacro-iliac (SI) joint. With the increased pressure of the baby and stretch of the ligaments, the joint can become compressed and sensitized, leading to pain. You can minimise this several ways. You can do gentle gluteal activation exercises. These help generate ‘force closure’ and help to stabilise this SI joint One example can be found hereAnd although it is late in the pregnancy you can do gentle pilates exercises like this at home. More info on these can be found here Prenatal Pilates - The perfect exercise during pregnancy - Sum of UsOne last thing you could try is getting your local physio to tape the joint. This helps with ‘form closure’ and can reduce the compression in the joint.

I have moderate, continuous low back pain since I was 16, I'm 19 now. My back is always cracking. What do you think it might be causing this?

Have you seen a rheumatologist? Based on your age and symptoms it is possible that you have Ankylosing Spondylitis. Typical age of first diagnosable signs are from age 16 to age 35 and low back pain is a common symptom.Do NOT assume you have this disease based on those symptoms alone since AS, while not rare, is not common either. Blood tests and radiographic studies must be done to make an accurate diagnosis. Other conditions may cause similar symptoms.

Why does my lower back hurts when I am only 16 years old?

Let’s look at what daily factors increase the risk of lower back pain in young athletes. (Even if you’re not an athlete, you’ll see this applies.)“only the time spent using a computer and sitting in a posture to write and use a computer remained associated with back pain intensity, and reading or studying in bed and the method of carrying a backpack remained associated with back pain frequency. These behavioural and postural factors were associated with increasing back pain frequency and back pain intensity. Athletes who used a non-recommended sitting posture to write and use computer demonstrated higher prevalence ratios and were more predisposed to greater back pain intensity”These authors looked at a lot of factors.Let’s get a visual for which factors were most associated with back pain intensity. (How badly your back hurts.) Highlighting factors where the prevalence changed by 10% or more i.e. these factors were most associated with having intense back pain:Next, what factors were most associated with frequency of back pain? (How often the back hurts.) Again highlighting factors where the prevalence changed by 10% or more:Takeaways:The study was done on high schoolers. Being 16 is plenty old enough to have aches and pains! (Just ask any teenager playing American football.)Despite the study being done on athletes, we can see, overwhelmingly, the factors most associated with back pain were non-athletic.There’s more to it, but the old adage of “sit up straight!” isn’t a bad place to start. Many teenagers spend too much time hunched or slouched with a desk, computer, phone. Avoid this:Credit.

Scared! Burning when pee, constipated, lower back pain, PLEASE HELP?

Hi Kristina, I did my best to research your symptoms and so far I have 2 ideas of what it could be:
1. Even though you were found to have no UTI it is UTI in particular that has high chances of starting if you don't urinate after having sex. The infection can spread to bladder and even kidneys, and you have pains in lower back, which in a way hints at a kidney problem. If that's the case then drinking cranberry juices and flushing your system with drinking water in general is the number one domestic cure (besides the prescribed antibiotics and what not). But...
2. If it's Interstitial Cystitis then cranberry juices and especially fruits would most likely make it worse. The symptoms of this thing are similar and you can read them here: http://www.ichelp.org/Page.aspx?pid=347 and here: http://www.ichelp.org/Page.aspx?pid=561
I think detecting IC is closely related to pelvic exams, so you might want to look into arranging that.

This problem of yours can be caused by as many reasons as there are things that can impact it: food, drink, intimacy, hygiene, injury... etc., so you have to take note of your habit changes and your body reactions and aim for doctors to check a few different organs in your lower abdomen to find the cause. Good luck

Added later: Oh my God, douglas is right, it COULD be a pinched nerve - they can feel like a stroke! In that case, douglas, do you have simple pictures or a video that can show how to relieve it?, since in my experience relieving muscles and nerves can be very tricky, although instant. If that is her problem than she can save time and nerves worth another 10 years of life on doctor visits!
