2008 Ford Escape Or 2008 Honda Civic

Opinions on 2009/2010 Ford Escape?

I'm looking to buy a used 2009 or 2010 Ford Escape for when I go off to college. My budget is around $12,000.

The most important thing to me is reliability, and while I know this is definitely not the most reliable or even best option, I find that aesthetic value is also very important to me, and I just don't like Toyota Camrys and Corollas or Honda Civics, etc. I love the look of the Escape and it's a nice, small SUV that I'm able to get in my price range. (Most have had about 60k miles on them that I've seen on used car websites).

I need opinions, advice, and information from anyone and everyone about the 2009 and 2010 Escapes. If you work at a dealership, are the Escapes often brought in for problems? If you own one, how have you liked it? I'm just a student who needs something that will get her from point A to B and will age well, and hopefully it'll get up to 190-200k miles and still work well.

Thanks!

Should I buy a Ford Escape?

yes. they are great cars. good on gas, very reliable, and they are very good deals when you buy them used. also, servicing them is typically cheaper than servicing an import.

not to mention...they actually look kind of cute for a small suv. i would def buy one if i was looking for a small suv. in fact ive got my gf wanting one now as well, lol.

Is it worth it to spend 6,000 on a Ford Escape hybrid with 100,000 miles?

Used cars come with inescapable caveats. :-) A car with 100k miles will almost certainly require maintenance and perhaps service or replacement of major components. Battery life is also a consideration. I'd look at online forums or sites for reported problems of the model/year of the vehicle to get a better sense of what to expect. Personally, I think there are probably better choices for cars with that kind of mileage and price; something mechanically not as complex and with a good reliability history.

In a quarter mile drag race between the 5 leading hybrid cars, which would win? Prius, Civic, Mazda, Ford, GM?

I'm not sure where you get your list of "5 leading hybrid cars" from... Ford and Mazda do not have a hybrid car (but they do have hybrid SUVs), and you are missing Nissan which is in the top 5... (Mazda only has 1 hybrid available, the Mazda Tribute hybrid, but it is only for limited sale in CA (only about 300 made for 2009: http://www.mazdausa.com/MusaWeb/displayP... ).)

1 Jan 2008 through 30 Sept. 2008 US sales:

http://www.greencarcongress.com/2008/10/...
Toyota Prius: 130,561
Toyota Camry Hybrid: 37,235
Honda Civic Hybrid: 27,597
Toyota Highlander Hybrid: 16,572 (SUV)
Ford Escape Hybrid: 13,183 (SUV)
Lexus RX400h: 12,498 (SUV)
Nissan Altima: 7,202
Chevy Tahoe Hybrid: 2,441 (SUV)
Saturn Vue Green Line: 2,047 (SUV)
Mercury Mariner Hybrid: 1,832 (SUV)
GMC Yukon Hybrid: 1,626 (SUV)
Chevy Malibu Hybrid: 1,414
All other hybrid models have sold less than 1000 units in the US so far this year (2008)...

Depending on the manufacturer, some hybrid models are made more for fuel economy, while others are made more for performance.

If you want to drag race, I'd suggest the Lexus GS450 (advertised as 0-60mph in 5.2 seconds) and the Lexus LS 600 hL (advertised as 0-60mph in 5.5 seconds). The SUV Lexus RX400h is also performance-tuned, but a little slower than the Lexus car options.

Other performance-tuned hybrids would be the Nissan Altima Hybrid and the Mercury Mariner Hybrid. (Honda no longer makes the performance-tuned Accord Hybrid.)

Can I use regular oil on my 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid?

“On” it? If you actually mean “in” it, and by “regular” you mean non-synthetic — then possibly, as long as it meets the API rating and all other requirements set forth by the manufacturer, as well as having the SAE viscosity required by the climate you are in.Note that it may be difficult or impossible to find a conventional oil that meets the above requirements. Also note that if you’re attempting to save money by using cheaper oil, synthetic is actually more economical because it lasts much longer.

I own a 2008 Honda Civic. When going to do an oil change, I felt air pressure out of the oil fill area. Is this sign of the engine being worn out?

the engine was running when you put your hand over the oil filler? did you cover the filler completely allowing pressure to build? Or just feel air pulsing out against your skin as it the engine was running?some pressure is normal. The Valve Cover has a vent on top, attached to a tube. This captures any Hydro Carbon vapours (crank case ventilation) that would normally escape from the valve cover and go into the atmosphere. The Positive Crank Case Ventilation or PCV for short is part of the EVAP system. Or Evaporative Emissions System. These vapours are filtered and re introduced into the air going in to the engine to be burned with the gasoline. if you had excessive Crank Case pressure, an oil leak would develop from the weaker gaskets on the engine, such as the Valve Cover gasket. So, if you don't have any noticeable oil leaks coming from the Valve Cover gasket, this is Normal Crank Case pressure. Your engine is not worn out.Your Ford F-150 may have a bigger vent for Crank Case pressure (reducing the pressure) or may even vent this pressure to atmosphere. Instead of capturing the Hydro Carbons and combusting them. Honda engines are quite Eco friendly. I'm willing to bet the Honda EVAP system is doing a better job at recycling otherwise un used Hydro Carbons than the Ford is. I wouldn't worry about it.

2008 Ford Focus SES coupe temperature display?

The Focus does not have the ability to display the outside temperature. The reason you can see the segmented displays when the sun hits it at an angle is because the display panel which is installed in your Focus is the same display that is installed in other higher end models that may be equipped with the ability to display outside temperature, such as the Lincoln MKZ, or Taurus. Same parts may be installed across model lines.
