I chose to have my first legal beer at Denny's of all places, just to say I had one, but the most important thing I did, although I did not think so at the time, was take a trip with my mom. She asked if she could take me somewhere for my 21st birthday. My mom had been diagnosed with MS a few years prior and she was now no longer walking on her own but used an electric wheel chair. Getting the chair in and out of my little Ford Festiva was not easy, but she was looking forward to taking me, so I agreed. We ended up going to a hotel in a beach city. We went to one of the “Free Willy” movies that was in theaters then as Orcas are my fave and then going to Coco's for dinner and a piece of the best peach and caramel pie ever. She also presented me with a little gold ring with a heart and some diamond chips and said I now had my first diamond ring given to me. I will always remember that weekend and the precious time I got to spend with my mother! She has since passed away, way before her time and perhaps she knew that would be the last alone time weekend we would ever have together so we needed to take it then. Either way, I am so grateful I spent it with her.

It really depends what you want to do. There are plenty of bars and clubs around town that are busy on a Friday or Saturday night, but most other nights you will find them with much fewer people. For clubs and such I will suggest the following: -Anything on Congress or 4th Ave is pretty good. Asylum for hardcore electronic music, Congress and Plush both have some good touring acts from time to time, O'Malley's and Maloney's are both frat bars, Heart-Five for more pop oriented music, there are a load of other clubs. -There are plenty of cowboy bars on the eastside of town. Cactus Moon, The Maverick, The Cow Pony, The C-Note, etc. are all decent if you like country music. Cactus Moon is a little more diverse with their music, but I still consider them a country themed club. -There are some smaller bars and clubs around the UA that cater mostly to the college crowd. They aren't anything too special, but it all depends what vibe you want.

According to the DMV hotline if I renew before 21 I will still have my under 21 license.I live In New Jersey and will either have plans in New Jersey or New York City. And since it is a holiday weekend I will have to wait til Tuesday in order to renew it but I am scheduled to be in class for most of the day and I would need to drive to campus. Miami or vegas for 21st birthday?
