Why doesn't Australia take an initiative to possess nuclear weapons?

On top of what other answers have already said, it does not even make sense because most of Australia is out of the range of Russian warheads, and is out of range of about half of the Chinese warheads.Australia is barely in the range of DF-31s and JL-2s. At the edge of an ICBMs range it becomes more and more uncertain that the ICBM will even be accurate. That range is also simple distance from the Chinese border; China does not have any ICBMs literally on the border with Vietnam. Most are inland.For a similar map of Russian capabilities:Again assuming Russia has their nukes in like... Vladivostok. In reality most of Russia's nukes are in the west of the country, well out of range of Australia and always have been. This was the location of their silo clusters in the cold war:Here is where their forces are today:Russia has one air-based nuclear force stationed north of Vladivostok, but no leaked silo locations. Most of Siberia is very swampy in the summer so it is hard to maintain bunkers there. It would be like the US building silos in Florida and Louisiana.Sydney is out of range of nukes based in Irkutsk:The SS-25 or RT-2PM Topol has a maximum range of 10,000 km.Even entertaining the silliness of an all out Russian strike on Australia, they would have to fire their nukes over China and likely over India. That would raise all sorts of hell. China would likely think Russia was nuking them and fire back.The only realistic way for Russia to nuke Australia is with submarines.At the moment, Australia doesn't even need nuclear deterrence. I imagine though that if more countries in the region got nukes that would change.It would also be just as hard to hit Russia with nukes from Australia as it is for Russia to hit them. They are just on opposite sides of the world.Edit:The R-36 (missile) would put Australia in range, but barely. It has a maximum range of 12,200-16,000km. Most of them have been abandoned and only the Mod 5 is still in use.It looks like one of the SS18/R-36 Mod 5 variants based in Uzhur could hit Sydney.

What is the time difference between Singapore and Australia and how do you measure it?

The time difference between Australia and Singapore depends on which Australian state or territory you are comparing with:Western Australia is in the same time zone as Singapore.Northern Territory and South Australia are two hours ahead of Singapore.Queensland, New South Wales, Canberra (ACT), Victoria and Tasmania are two and half hours ahead of Singapore.Please note that daylight saving is observed in New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania, and the Australian Capital Territory (ACT).Daylight Saving Time begins at 2am on the first Sunday in October, when clocks are put forward one hour. It ends at 2am (which is 3am Daylight Saving Time) on the first Sunday in April, when clocks are put back one hour.[1]How do you measure the time difference? Well, I can’t explain any of that longitudinal stuff but there is always Google if you want to check what time it is in any city anywhere.Let’s say you’re trying to set up a telephone conference across two or more cities. You can always look online for a free time zone converter website that will help you map out what time it will be in another city when it is 2pm next Tuesday in Singapore.Footnotes[1] Time zones and daylight saving | australia.gov.au

Can someone in the US and someone in Australia see the moon at the same time?

This answer is always “yes, sometimes, at least briefly” for any 2 points on Earth, assuming a flat unobstructed horizon. The proof is this: Imagine this is the view of the Earth from the Moon. Exactly 50% of the Earth’s surface is visible, which would mean that 50% of the Earth can see the Moon. If you rotate the Earth, a slightly different 50% of the Earth is visible, and so on. It’s easy to see that any 2 points you pick can be visible at the same time from this view (although perhaps on the extreme edges of the visible side of the Earth, such as the North and South poles from this view). So, in principle, at least barely, the Moon is potentially visible simultaneously from any two points.For example:From this view, most of the United States is visible, and a portion of Australia is visible. If this is the view from the Moon, people in Florida would be seeing the Moon very low over the Western Horizon, while people along the East Coast of Australia would see the Moon rising low in the East.

Why are Netizens given so much power in South Korea?

The Korean internet is very developed, pretty much ranked first in the world. This is the reason why you see massive numbers of Koreans on sites like Omegle and any penpal sites. Koreans pretty much communicate and share information and news through the web. They even form a demo against the government through the web. This happened when the Koreans protested against meat coming from America, the only reason why a massive number of Koreans were formed in less than an hour was because of the meeting through the internet. There are also massive numbers of sites where you can access anything possible, something that you wouldn't imagine seeing in other countries like America.

Some examples of these sites are Daum and Naver cafes. They form what you call "cafe sites" that focus on anything, either it be about food, fashion, or celebrities etc and you can access pretty much anything that has to do with those areas. The most developed cafes are of course fan cafes and the anti cafes. Here they post just about anything about any celebrity, and this may ruin or lead a celebrity to stardom. It shocks me how they can find information so personal and detailed about a celebrity. When something shocking about a celebrity starts circulating around the internet, chances are that 90% of the koreans know about it. Reporters nowadays start writing articles with these cafes as a reference, and so you can see why the Korean netizens have so much power.

This is the reason why Jaebom left 2PM two days after his incident with the Korea hating myspace comment releasing on the internet. He didn't even try and have a formal interview in person or anything, he knew that once the netizens were pissed, his career was done and left the group.

Netizens having so much power over the actions of celebrities is actually a huge problem in Korea. The formal singer "Yu Nee" committed suicide after suffering from constant hating comments on her fansite.

Your time is 11 am and the time at the prime meridian is 5:30 pm. whats your longitude?

Hi Ashley,

The way to work out the time zones =

The prime meridian is actually in the Royal Observatory at Greenwich London, in the grounds of the old Royal Naval College, and is 0 degrees longitude [its the place from which all longitude is calculated]. Why it's there is another story but it's interesting and very worth exploring.

The world's shape is an oblate spheroid and therefore 360 degrees around it's circumference. In other words if I start from Greenwich and go right round the world until I return to Greenwich I will have passed through 360 degrees of longitude.

The Worlds rotation is from west to east therefore the sun's APPARENT rotation is east to west [in other words, the Earth's rotation makes the sun APPEAR to rise in the east and set in the west] so it's "earlier" in the east and "later" in the west - it takes time before the sun apparently travels to the western horizon.

There are 24 hours in a day, so if I divide the Earths 360 degrees [the amount it rotates per day] by 24 [hrs in a day] it means that the earth rotates [West to East remember]15 degrees every hour. [360 div 24 = 15]

So for every 15 degrees EAST of the Prime Meridian we ADD 1 hour and for every 15 degrees WEST we subtract an hour...thus:

Long = 30W .15W . PM . 15E .30E
Time = 10am 11am Noon 1pm 2pm
PM being Prime Meridian

SO, TO YOUR YOUR ANSWER:
11am to 5.30pm is 6.5 hours [during in which time the earth will have rotated 6.5 x 15deg = 97.5 deg] So your longitude will be 97 deg 30 minutes WEST of Greenwich ["before" the PM]
---------------------------------------...
QUESTION: your time is 11 am and the time at the prime meridian is 5:30 pm. whats your longitude? ANSWER: 97deg 30 min E
---------------------------------------...
Sorry about the length of the answer, not trying to be a smart a*se but didn't know how much explanation you needed on how to obtain the answer.

Hope it helps

Ron

Does the Earth's rotation factor into flight time?

No, the rotation of the Earth does not have any direct impact on the amount of travel time. Let me explain it like this, the earth rotates at a speed of 1600km/hr. You, and everybody else on this earth, are also moving at a speed of 1600km/hr. But why don't we feel it? This is because we don't experience absolute speed (speed through space), we experience relative speed. Relative speed is the amount of speed with respect to another object (can be moving or stationary). So our relative speed with respect to the Earth is 0km/hr. Hence, it feels like we're stationary. Now say that you start walking at a speed of 10km/hr in the direction of the earth's rotation. Your speed relative to the earth is 10km/hr. But your absolute speed is 1600km/hr + 10km/hr = 1610km/hr. What if you're walking in the direction opposite to the earth's rotation? Your relative speed remains 10km/hr but your absolute speed would be 1600km/hr - 10km/hr = 1590km/hr. This means that the rotation of the earth isn't effecting your walking speed. Suppose you jump at the same spot. Would you land at the same spot? Definitely yes. Because while you were in the air, the earth moved itself and you, so you land back at the same spot. This means that the earth imparts it's speed to you.Similarly, for an airplane, the same logic applies. Ignoring the presence of winds, the speed of the aircraft relative to the earth will remain unchanged. It gets "cancelled out". But it's speed through space will change. In other words, the speed of the earth is imparted to the airplane and it thus has no effect on the flight time. What affects the travel time are winds. Winds are caused by varying atmospheric pressure across the surface of the earth. So, on a flight from Vancouver to Delhi, eastward, the time taken is relatively shorter than a flight from Delhi to Vancouver, westward. (Northern Hemisphere).However, there is something known as "Coriolis effect". Coriolis effect is caused by the rotation of the earth. This is a factor which comes into play when considering the direction of winds. If you've ever watched weather reports, all those swirls of lines are largely determined by coriolis effect. I wouldn't go into detail about the coriolis effect but all you need to know is that it deflects winds to the right in the northern hemisphere and to the left in the southern hemisphere. This causes the "swirling motion" in water and air. This influences the path taken by pilots for their journey.

At what time GMT will most people be awake?

0600 GMT when it is 1200 noon in Bangladesh, 1130 in India & 1400 in China, Indonesia, Philippines.
That covers 60% of humanity. Europe & Africa are already up with local times of 0700, 0800 in Summer
whereas sparsely populated Australia at a mean time around 2200 is in a partying mood. Americas only (18% population) are sleeping.

Why is Afghanistan's time zone off by half an hour compared to other time zones?

Simply put: Because they want to and because they can.Any sovereign country can choose to set any time standards that suits it.It is usual for countries to set their standard time in one hour increments to form a standard time shift pattern around the world, but that is a convention and not a compulsion. They can set their own country’s time to suit themselves.It needs to be said, that the more integrated a country is into common world affairs, then the more likely it is they will conform to the standard one hour increment convention in order to fit more easily into their international affairs.If their country time is of little concern to others, then there is correspondingly, little pressure to conform.A list of countries with unusual times is to be found here:Half Hour and 45-Minute Time Zones
